Adams & Jefferson became counties.

1802
Wilkinson & Claiborne became counties.

1809
Warren, Wayne, Amite & Franklin became counties.

1811
Greene & Marion became counties.

1812
Hancock & Jackson became counties.

1814
Lawrence became a county.

1815
Pike became a county.

1817
Mississippi Territory became the
20th of the United States.

1819
Covington became a county.

1820
Perry became a county.

1821
Monroe & Hinds became counties.

1823
Yazoo & Copiah became counties.

1824
Simpson became a county.

1826
Jones became a county.

1827
Washington became a county.

1828
Madison & Rankin became counties.

1830
Lowndes became a county.
The Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek.

1832
The Chickasaw Cession.

1833
Jasper, Carroll, Choctaw, Clarke, Scott, Noxubee, Oktibbeha, Leake, Lauderdale,
Winston, Tallahatchie,
Yalobusha, Kemper, Holmes, Neshoba, Attala & Smith
all became counties as the result of the Choctaw Cession of 1830.

1836
Coahoma, Bolivar, Chickasaw, De Soto, Itawamba, Panola, Tunica,
LafayetteMarshall, Newton, Pontotoc, Tippah & Tishomingo became counties
due to the Choctaw and Chickasaw cessions and division of larger counties.
The population grew due to influx from Georgia and North Carolina.

1844
Sunflower & Issaquena became counties.

1852
Calhoun became a county.

1861
The War Between The States began.
The Confederates fired on Fort Sumter.
Mississippi was second to seceed from the union.

1863
With the fall of Vicksburg, the capital was moved to Macon.

1865
The Armistice at Appomattox.

1866
Lee became a county.

1870
Union, Alcorn, Prentiss, Benton, Lincoln & Grenada became counties.

1871
Leflore, Montgomery & Clay became counties.

1873
Tate became a county.

1874
Webster became a county.

1876
Sharkey became a county.

1877
Quitman became a county.

1890
Pearl River became a county.

1904
Lamar became a county.

1906
Forrest & Jefferson Davis became counties.

1910
George & Walthall became counties

1916
Stone became a county.

1918
Humphreys became our 82nd and final county.
