The Cedar & Vernon County, MO Genealogical Society is headquartered in Nevada, Missouri, at the Nevada Public Library Genealogy Department, 218 West Walnut Street, Nevada, MO 64772.  We do not have paid staff, keep an office, or have a phone number.  All of the work we do is conducted on a volunteer basis by society members.


Please EMAIL us if you have a question about genealogy resources or researching in Vernon County  --  


When you email the society, please include a phone number and a mailing address because if our email to you is blocked, we have no way to contact you.


Please do not call the Nevada Library. The Nevada Library staff does not conduct genealogy look ups.


When emailing the Society, please use a relevant subject in your email and do not use colored background, wallpaper, or cutesy graphics.  Please use a basic, standard black business style font and do not use all capital letters.


P.O. Box B and 225 W. Austin St. in Nevada, MO are obsolete mailing addresses and should not be used.


The Vernon County Genealogical Society first organized in Nevada, Missouri in 1982.  Several years later the organization expanded its membership and geographic area to also include Cedar and St. Clair Counties, and the name was then changed to Tri-County Genealogical Society (Vernon-Cedar-St. Clair).  In 2011 the society's name was changed to Cedar and Vernon County, MO Genealogical Society.  The Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and donations to the Society are tax exempt.


The Society's main genealogy research collection is housed in the Genealogy Department of the Nevada Public Library where it is available, without charge, to researchers during all hours that the Public Library is open.


The Society meets monthly on the third Tuesday at 10 a.m. with a business meeting followed by a program pertaining to some aspect of genealogy or history.  Meetings are alternately held at:

-- Nevada Public Library Meeting Room, 212 W. Walnut Street, Nevada, MO.

-- Cedar County Meeting Room, 808 S. Main Street, El Dorado Springs, MO.



We welcome local as well as long-distance members in support of the Society's work to place genealogy and family history information in the public library.  Click here for a membership form and information on joining the genealogical society.  Visitors are welcome to attend all meetings, and membership in the Society is open to anyone interested in family or historical research.  Membership is on a calendar year basis.
