Velta Steele, 85, Morgan Hill, Calif., formerly of Ponce de Leon Mo., died Thursday in Community Memorial Hospital, Ventura Calif., following a sudden illness.
Mrs. Steele was born Dec. 25, 1906, in Hurly, Mo. From 1930-1938 she owned and operated a food store and in 1976 retired as postmistress with the U.S. Postal Service, Ponce de Leon, Mo., after 20 years.
She will be dearly missed by daughters and son-in-law, Betty and Bob Rains, Oxnard, Calif., and Deonna and Larry Essary, Morgan Hill, Calif.; a brother, Dale Long, Springfield; a sister, Lura Glossip, Ponce de Leon; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
