Mrs. Effie C. JOHNSTON, 88 years old, died at the home of her son, C.W. JOHNSTON here Tuesday evening of this week (d. 21 Aug.1928), from dropsy.

Mrs. Johnston was born in Sherburne, Chenango County, NY on March 19, 1841. She moved to Illinois when she was 14 years old, and came to Missouri in 1882, living in northwest Missouri (Chariton county) for 13 years, then moving to Jasper County where she lived until eight years ago when she came to Crane with her son, who is her only living child.

Funeral services were conducted at the home Wednesday afternoon and burial made in the Masonic cemetery.

Before she died she wrote the following, which the family wished published: I have fought the good fight; I have finished my course; I have kept the faith.

Farewell dear mother, sweet thy rest, Weary with years and worn with pain Farewell till in some happy place, We shall behold thy face again.
Farewell, dear loved ones, one and all, I left the world at Jesus' call. Go to your homes, dry your tears, I will arise when Christ appears.
