Visa May Scott, Old Resident of County Succumbs

Though not unexpected, the passing of Mrs. Visa
May Scott came as sad news to the many who have known and loved her during
the years she had spent in this county, having lived here since she was
a girl.
Visa May Scott was born April 21, 1859, at
Walnut Shade, in Taney county, the second of 11 children.
When a young girl she moved with her parents
to Stone county and shortly thereafter became a member of the Christian
church in Galena.
On Jan. 6, 1879, she married Jefferson Davis
Scott. This union was blessed by five children, four girls and one
boy. Her husband preceded her in death in 1941.
Her death occurred Sept. 23, at he age of
88 years, five months and two days.
She leaves a sister, Mrs. Belle Taylor, and
a brother, John May, both of Galena; four children, Clyde Scott,
of Chickashaw, Okla, Mrs. B.E. Wilbur of Stuttgart, Okla., Mrs. Charles
Hanniff of Wilmington, Calif. , and Mrs. Jim Benham of Galena. In
addition to these 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren remain.
She wil be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon
at 3:30 o'clock at the Christian Church with Rev. Carl A. Burkhardt Jr.,
officiating. Burial was in the Galena cemetery under the direction
of Everett J. Cheatham, of Galena.
