POAGUE, Henry Fewel
Clinton, Missouri - Henry F. Poague, well known attorney in Clinton and Henry County for almost a half century, died at his home, 207 North Washington street, at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, 1939. Mr. Poague, whose health had not been good the past few years, contracted a cold October 12, which had help him at home several days. Neither he nor his family realized that his condition was serious until late Wednesday afternoon, when about 3:45 a blood clot formed and death laid its hand on the shoulder of the devoted father, fond husband and good citizen. His death was without pain or suffering and his family was with him, as he would have wished, for one of the finest things in his life, that was replete with many admirable traits, was the great esteem in which he was held by his family and the pride and pleasure he found in his children. Henry Fewel Poague, son of Kentucky parents who came to Missouri in 1858, settling in Benton County, after short residences in Lafayette and Johnson counties, where they were substantial farmers, was born March 17, 1868, near Ft. Lyon in Benton Co. As a boy about 16, he left school to help manage the farm of his widowed mother. He was ambitious to continue his schooling and having settled his mind on the law, saved his means to that end and in 1892 graduated from the law school of the Missouri University and passed his state bar examinations. Returning to Benton County, he resumed farming for a year, after which he came with his beloved brother, the late Dr. S. A. Poague, to Henry County and settled in Clinton. They began their professional practices side by side, and this close fraternal bond was broken by the death of Dr. Poague in 1935. August 25, 1895, Mr. Poague and Miss Hattie Haysler, daughter of C. H. Haysler, prominent Clintonian and business man, were married and established their home in Clinton. She survives with their two children, Judge Haysler Allen Poague and Mrs. R. S. Hollingsworth of Clinton, also two grandchildren, Miss Peggy Poague and little Ann Hollingsworth; also two brothers, Fred Poague of Greeley, Colo.; Will R. Poague; one sister, Mrs. Lawrence Crotty, of Clinton. Mr. Poague was an ardent and unswerving Democrat, who moulded many opinions of those he contacted and offered wise counsel in party politics. For many years he was the country chairman of his party and also Democratic chairman of the Sixth Congressional and the 29th Judicial District. For four terms, he served his county as prosecuting attorney, meting out justice with office and wisdom and tempering always the stern interpretations of the law by his dominant humanity, whenever it was possible, especially toward young offenders. He realized the crippling burden of debt carried by Henry County in the heavy railroad bonds that had drained their surplus for years. So advising with the county court he worked out a financial plan whereby the bonds might be retired, and no man felt more satisfaction in that historic bonfire, when the bonds were burned, after payment, than he. But farther reaching still was the effecting of his financing idea, for from it grew the budget system of Henry County. It was further said by various officers in the state that he could handle more prosecutions with better success and less criminal cost than any man holding the office, yet was brief and rigorous at all times. Mr. Poague was also active in other phases of community life. He was a member of the Christian Church, a Mason, and held memberships in the W.O.W. and Modern Woodmen. For many years in addition to his law practice, Mr. Poague handled much real estate, and over a long period was associated in these transactions with Frank Carter, now living in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas. He was a man of excellent business judgement and through the years accumulated considerable property. An able lawyer and fine counsellor, Henry Poague was ever known as a kindly, charitable man, moderate of speech and softly spoken, ready to excuse his fellowman for any shortcoming or foible and was generously disposed toward all. The flag at the courthouse was at half mast in honor of Mr. Poague Friday and funeral services were at the Christian Church at 2:30 p.m. Friday, conducted by Rev. Paul S. Stauffer and Rev. A. N. Lindsay. Pallbearers were: O. W. Wysong, Vance Julian, C. W. Gaines, Leslie Lobaugh, C. H. Whitaker Jr., Gus Bratzler, James B. Marks, Grady Spangler. Members of the P.E.O. of which Mrs. Poague is a charter member, and Mrs. R. S. Hollingsworth, the president, attended in a body, also the Henry County Bar Association. Out-of-town bar members and fellow attorneys present for the services were Nick Conrad and his son, Ted, of Montrose; Walter Davis and Ross Feaster of Windsor; Judge Henry S. Shepherd and Tom Silvers of Butler; Frank and Edwin Brady, Vernon Frieze of Warsaw; L. M. Crouch Jr., of Harrisonville; Waldo P., Ralph P. and Thomas Bryant Johnson, John M. Belise and Charles H. Green of Osceola.

POINDEXTER, Betty June Cleveland

Betty June Poindexter, 78, Clinton, died Tuesday, September 23, 2003, at Westwood Nursing Center. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, September 27, at the Osceola Cemetery.  She was born June 13, 1925, in St. Clair County, daughter of Grover and Marjorie Leonhart Cleveland. She was a member of Northeast Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Ernest L. Gordon, Independence; one daughter, Wanda Raymond and husband, Kenneth Dale, Lowry City; four grandchildren, Shelly Mazurek and husband, Dave, Holts Summit, Jason Raymond and wife, Laura, Seguin, Texas, Tracy Vaughn and husband John, Osceola, Eric Gordon, Lee's Summit; 10 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Kay Hart, and husband Bill, Clinton; plus other nieces, nephews and friends.

POINDEXTER, Martin Luther

Martin Luther Poindexter was born March 26, 1920 at Johnson City, MO to Icem Luther and Ada Anna Zeiler Poindexter. He passed away Feb. 11, 1999 at Clinton Health and Rehab Center in Clinton, MO. On August 10, 1974 he was united in marriage to Betty Cleveland Gordon. Martin lived in Kansas City from 1945 to 1976. He was an Army Veteran of WWII. Martin was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin Poindexter, and his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty, of Clinton; one sister, Dimple Hedrick of Denver CO; one brother, Henry Oliver Poindexter and his wife Joan of Vancouver WA; one sister-in-law, Lucille Poindexter of Melba ID; two daughters, Linda Gray of Independence and Marta Warren-Taylor of Cataldo ID; one son, Ronald Poindexter; one granddaughter; five grandsons; one step-son, Ernest Gordon of Raytown; one step-daughter, Wanda Raymond and her husband Dale of Lowry City, who he loved as his own; four step-grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren. In Memorium - Died, at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Pope, Jr., on Wednesday, December 8, Richard Pope, aged 11 years. After many days of intense suffering his gentle spirit obeyed the summons of the Savior who said: "Suffer little children to come unto Me and forbid them not, for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven." While it is hard to speak the bitter words, "We must forever part", yet we say Thy will be done. Father and mother mourn an only son; sisters an only brother. He has only left them for a short time and will be there in that bright home where Jesus is, to meet them with a welcoming smile when the summons shall come to them.

Alexander of Higginsville, Mo., and Betty B. Porter of Gladstone, Mo. He is preceded in death by his father, James William Porter and his mother Lorena Hays Porter of Roscoe, Mo. From six to eighteen years he attended school. When finished, followed a dream to Kansas City, and found work with Hallmark's creative pool. But in just a year it all ended, really a pity. But Uncle Sam called him and he couldn't wait, at nineteen he enlisted with the United States Marines. The train was leaving the very next day, Ed showed up late. He was appointed leader to those new Marines. Four years of active duty on that Pacific isle of fame. And when WWII was finally won he came home again. He joined the Masonic Lodge to honor his father's name. Served more than fifty years and gained some local fame. And then he met Fran Loftin and bachelor days were done. May 16, in '48 they married, and Roscoe saw him no more. A 2nd lieutenant, he led the National Guard for fun in Delano, CA, and for ten years managed a hardware store. They offered Nursing Home services in coming to Clinton, Mo. He drove for two ambulance companies for a time. He took a sales job with Superior Supply and took to the road. Out of Kansas City again where more adventures begin. He was a volunteer fire fighter, a VFW, a Mason, Members of the American Legion and faith in Christ Church Unity. He was a peace maker, Koffee Klatch organizer, more than one, with the wittiest sense of humor in the city. Wherever he lived he offered his time...got involved; He led Boy Scouts at home and their camp in the hollow. Even later, his son grown, when a problem needed solved. He brought his first BMW and urged his friends to follow. They traveled a lot, and never ever by car. Their bikes took them all of over. North, South, East, West, Canada, Mexico, nowhere too far. Just joy, fun, the sweet taste of freedom on each month. He was a courier for dealers delivering cars and vans From coast to coast, New York to Florida, Oregon to L.A. He loved playing golf and he had many fans. But that didn't matter, he just wanted to play every day. This part's from me, Fran, in my sorrow I cry, for my heart, my love, I've wept myself dry. POSTLEWAIT, Charles Palmer

At the age of 66 years, 4 months and 10 days Charles Palmer Postlewait departed this life in the Santa Fe Hospital at Topeka KS where he had been a patient for the past month. He was born Feb 25, 1879 at Vibbard MO., the son of John T. and Dorothy Ann Postlewait. During his early manhood he was a teacher in the public schools of St. Clair and Ray Counties in Missouri and also in Oklahoma. In the year 1909 he was united in marriage to Grace Hopkins at Monegaw Springs. To this union was born one daughter, Darline. The family moved from MO to St. Francis, TX where he was employed as a railroad telegrapher, later moving to New Mexico where his wife, Grace, departed this life in the year 1926. Later coming to Thatcher CO, his present home, where he met and married Anna Mae Rowe, Aug. 23, 1934. After 27 years of service on the railroad he retired in 1944 and moved to his ranch home near Thatcher CO. In his younger days he was united with the Christian Union Chapel at Vibbard, MO. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Osceola, MO. He was loved and highly respected by friends and neighbors who knew him best. He leaves to mourn his wife, Anna Mae Postlewait of Thatcher CO, his daughter Darline Bourland of Thatcher, 2 brothers, Abe Postlewait of Topeka KS and John J. Postlewait of Lowry City, 5 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at Lowry City Methodist Church by Rev. Steinhardt under direction of Austin Funeral Home with graveside services conducted by members of the Masonic Order at the Lowry City Cemetery.

POSTLEWAIT, Dorothy Anne King

Dorothy Anne Postlewait was born March 4,1851, and died Tuesday, December 23, 1919, at the home of her son J.J. Postlewait, at southwest of Lowry City, at the age of sixty-eight years, nine months and nineteen days. She was married to J.T. Postlewait, February 11, 1869. To this union five children were born; T.R. Postlewait of Chalk Level; A.K. Postlewait of Oakland Kansas; J.J. Postlewait of Lowry City; C.P. Postlewait of St. Francis Texas, and a daughter, Leuvena, who died December 14, 1885. The deceased professed faith in Christ when only fourteen years of age and united with the church of Christ in Christian Union, in which she was a faithful member until death. She expressed her desire to leave this world and go where she could be at rest.
She leaves a loving husband and four sons, together with a host of friends and relatives to mourn her departure. Funeral services were conducted at the home of her son J.J. Postlewait by Rev. J.M. Hawkins of Lowry City, Thursday, December 25, and interment was made in the Lowry City Cemetery.

POSTLEWAIT, Grace Lorena Hopkins

Grace Lorena Postlewait - A telegraph dated March 25, 1926, had the sad news that a daughter of W.O. Hopkins, Mrs. C.P. Postlewait, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, had passed over the river of death to bask in the sunlight of God. Grace, as we called her, had been in poor health for 7 years. She was married to Charles P. Postlewait in 1909. To this union a daughter was born, being at present 8 years of age. Charles with his wife and daughter, traveled over the west for the benefit of her health, but to no avail. She bore her sickness patiently- no murmurs from her- hoping to be better soon. She was a loving mother, a kind affectionate wife and was loved by all who knew her. Her life will write its own epitaph on her tomb. She was reared to womanhood in St. Clair county and was laid to rest in Lowry City cemetery Sunday, March 29th. Her funeral was preached by J. B. Kirkland of near Roscoe, who from the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh the comforting words of God. She leaves a loving companion behind to be father and mother to the little girl that was handed down to them to travel with him and share the joys and sorrows that here befall man. An aged father waits to soon step over the river to join his companion and daughter; two sisters and one brother mourn her departure and friends and acquaintances ever hold her dear in their memory. - Do not ask us if we miss her - While our hearts are sore distressed; - She is singing with the Savior - And the holy angels blest. - We miss her in the morning, - We miss her noon and night; - We miss her, oh, we miss her! - When the stars shine clear and bright. - She is standing in the portals - Beckoning hands are reaching down; - None on earth was ere so lovely - Mother’s hands- how dear it sounds, - She can bathe the throbbing forehead, - She can cool the fevered brow; - Oh blame us not for weeping, - For we have no sister now. - One who loved her.

Crystal Dawn Potter, 49 of Springfield, passed away July 26, 2006, near Lowry City. She is survived by a son, Jeremiah Abel; a daughter, Chelsea Abel; one brother, Kip Potter; one sister, Leslie Flummarfelt and a grand-daughter, Zoe Abel all of Strafford. Graveside services were Monday, July 31 at Danforth cemetery officiated by Rev. Richard McGeeHee. Interment was in Danforth cemtery, Strafford. Marjorie A. Potter, 59, Independence and formerly of Osceola, died Monday, January 12, 2004, at her home. She was a bank secretary. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, January 16, at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel in Osceola. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery, near Osceola.

Jack R. Poush, 84, Warrensburg, retired Lt. Colonel, United States Air Force, died Wednesday, February 19, in the Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 22, at 1 p.m. at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel, Osceola with burial in Benton Green Cemetery, Roscoe.

POUSH, Marjorie Jeanne Weant

Marjorie was born to Aaron and Goldie Weant on November 15, 1923 in Monegaw Springs. Eighteen months later, her sister, Helen Nadine, arrived and they quickly became Jeanne and Deanne. After graduating from Roscoe High School, Jeanne met and married Jack Robert Poush of Osceola. Jack’s career as an Air Force officer took them to Canada where their daughter, Jacqueline Kay, was born. They also lived in Colorado and came back to Missouri where their second daughter, Deborah Deanne, was born. They also lived in Texas, California, Spain and Arizona. When it came time to retire, Jack and Jeanne returned to their roots settling at Pomme de Terre and became very active with the Pomme de Terre Golf Course. Marjorie passed away Aug. 23, 2006 in Bolivar. Majorie Jeanne Weant Poush is survived by her daughters, Jacqueline Barte and her two sons, Justin Whitehead and Tyler Bartel; Overland Park, Kan., and Deborah Childs and her son, Christopher Childs; Atlanta, Ga. Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 29 at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel, officiated by Minister Greg Mangum. An interment was in the Benton Green cemetery. Arrangements were made by Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

POWELL, Beatrice Ellis

Beatrice Powell, 87, of Springfield, formerly of Collins, passed away July 10, 2006 at the Springfield Rehabilitation Center. Beatrice is survived by one son, Warren Powell and one daughter, Pat Stevenson, both of Springfield, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Thursday, July 13 at the Robinson cemetery, Weaubleau. Arrangements were made by Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

POWELL, Beatrice Ellis

Beatrice Powell was born on July 22, 1918 in Commerce, Okla. to Orland Ted and Daisy Smith Ellis and passed away July 10, 2006 at the Springfield Rehabilitation Center in Springfield. Beatrice married Warren Powell in January 1956. She was a long-time beautician and later worked s a real estate sales person. Beatrice was a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Chapter in Lowry City and served two terms as mayor of Collins. Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents, Orland and Daisy Ellis, one brother, Wilson Ellis and one sister, Wilma Walker. Beatrice is survived by one son, Warren Powell and one daughter, Pat Stevenson, both of Springfield, two grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a niece and nephews and a long time friend, Flora Kennon, Collins. Graveside services were July 13 at Robinson cemetery officiated by Allen Kauffman.
Interment was in Robinson cemetery. Arrangements were made by Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

POWELL, James Leary

James L. Powell, 77, Osceola, Mo., died September 26, 2005. Funeral services with Military Honors 11 a.m. Saturday, October 1 at the Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home in Osceola; burial in Yeater Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

POWELL, James Leary

James Leary Powell, 77, was born on December 26, 1927, just outside Osceola and passed away on September 26, 2005, at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton, after a long bout with cancer.
His parents Leary Powell and Margaret Sims Powel, one brother Charles Powell, known as Rast, and one great-grandson Luke Collins Lewis all preceded him in death. Jim is survived by his two children, son, Mike Powell and his wife Dorothy of Archie, daughter, Carol Collins of Osceola, and stepson, Jim Burrow and his wife Clarice of Osceola; five grandchildren, Carrie Powell of Louisville, Ky, Michael Brian Powell of Kansas City, Jodee and Chad Lewis, of Chicago, Ill., Amy and Darin Cissel of St. Charles, and Caleb Collins of Springfield; two step-grandchildren, Laurinda and Gary Gipson of Osceola, and Jim and Alicia Burrow, Nevada, Mo.; four great grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Peggy and Bill Gray of Lake Winnebago; and one very special friend, Vi Bailey of Clinton, Mo. Jim served his country from 1948 to 1952 as a Corporal in the U.S. Army. His tours included the Philippines and Korean War. He has been a long time member of VFW Post 4197. Jim was instrumental in starting the Honor Guard at Post 4197. Jim loved his country and was very proud to have served. He lived most of his life around Osceola and Bolivar and engaged in many different occupations including working for the Post Office in Kansas City, a truck driver for Seal Test Milk Co., manger of First Finance company, co-owner of Carolco Lumber, Sharp Bonding Co., car salesman, owner and operator of three gas stations in Osceola and Lowry City, co-started the first trash company in this area (C and DP Trash Service) and song writer. Jim was an avid musician. He played lead guitar with several bands during his lifetime, making lots of special friends in the music business. The most special was the Osage Country Gospel Band where Jim played for the past five years with his cousins, Roger, Nona and Angie, good friend, Marge and the late Don Masten. Playing in this band allowed him to use his musical abilities to serve the Lord and to minister to others. He has told how God had humbled him to use him and wanted everyone to know about the hope we have in our Lord and Savior. Services were Saturday, October 1, at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel. Minister officiating the services was Greg Mangum. Music played at the services was “My Restless Day”, “How Great Thou Art” Ed James was soloist, “Amazing Grace” sung by the congregation. Casket bearers for the services were Donnie Powell, Roger Powell, Larry Powell, Jim Faulkner, Richard Powell, J.W. Powell, Robert Hurst and Rick Faulkner. Interment was in the Yeater Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Clinton VFW Post # 1894.

Jewell Dean Judy Powell, 70, Walker, passed away Friday, August 12, 2005, at the Cedar County Memorial Hospital, El Dorado Springs, following a courageous battle with cancer. Jewell was born August 31, 1934, to John and Mary Bastion Durnell at Weaubleau, and attended Weaubleau schools and later Draughons Business College at Springfield. She was the manager of Back Street Bazaar of all Saints Episcopal Church, Nevada, MO for 18 years. She was united in marriage April 9, 1951 to Kenneth E. Powell, Collins. To this union three children were born. Daughter, Janet Lynn Powell Massingill, Rockaway Beach and sons Gregory Kevin and his wife Glenda, Nixa; and Darin Michael and his wife, Lori, Belleville, IL. Judy is survived by her husband Kenneth and their three children; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three sisters, Delores Ott and her husband Bob, Weaubleau, Betty Clary, Urbana, Leona Ashlock and her husband Kenny, Bolivar; brother-in-law Raymond Powell and his wife Wanda, Collins; sister-in-law Beatrice Powell, Springfield; one aunt, Hesper Fellers, Polk; one uncle, Scott Bastion, Bolivar; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Durnell; a brother, William Ray Durnell; a sister, Rosemary Sackman and a niece, Tonya Ashlock. Services for Judy were held Monday, August 15, at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel with Father John Biggs of Saint John’s Episcopal Church officiating. Musical selections were “Amazing Grace” and “Beyond the Sunset”. Casketbearers were Robert E. Ott, Eldon Ott, Timothy Ott, Dwayne Ashlock, Tony Porter and Brent Jones. Interment was in the Robinson Cemetery, Collins, under the direction of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs.

Maggie Myrtle Powell was born September 15, 1909, in Osceola, to Edward and Laura Cleveland Bourland. She died February 10, 2003 at the Appleton City Manor in Appleton City. Myrtle became a Christian at an early age and her devotion to God remained steadfast throughout her life. On January 15, 1928, she was married to Casper A. Powell. They made their home in the Kansas City area from 1941 until moving to Lowry City in 1959. Myrtle was a wonderful mother and instilled great Christian values in her immediate family which will carry on for generations. Myrtle was a wonderful cook and loved to prepare for others. She was preceded in death by her husband Casper A. Powell, on May 13, 1990; her grandson, Larry Ray Nichols, and granddaughter, Brenda Lea Nichols; three brothers and three sisters. Myrtle is survived by her son, Donald Casper Powell, Appleton City; daughters, Joyce Jean Nichols, Appleton City, Geneva Maxine Dunlap, Appleton City, Doris June Quillin, Eldon, Laura Lea Sisney, Clinton; brothers, Forrest Bourland, Appleton City, Horrace Bourland, Lowry City; two sisters, Cleo Simms, Appleton City, Leona Jamison, Osceola; 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Wednesday, February 12, 11 a.m., Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel, with Rev. Milan Bourland and Rev. Bob Fenwick officiating. Pallbearers were Kyle Sisney, Todd Gerstner, Jeff Powell, Kevin Gerstner, Greg Powell, DeWayne Ray. Burial was in Lowry City Cemetery.

Grandpa Preston, one of the old citizens living about eight miles south of the city, died the 30th last and the remains were entered in the Appleton City cemetery the following afternoon. The funeral services were conducted under the auspices of the G.A.R. Post of Rockville and the funeral cortege, when passing through the city, was nearly a mile in length, a beautiful testimony of the esteem in which the deceased was held by neighbors and acquaintances.

Beulah May Price, 86, went to be with her Lord and savior on Sunday, May 14, 2006, at Hospice House in Kansas City. She was a resident of Meadville after living in California for many years. Beaulah, or Sis, was born on March 26, 1920, to James Melvin and Elizabeth Ann Mistler Woody in St. Clair County. She was married to Melvin Shoemaker and Grover Jefferson Curley Blankenship who both preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, John Price, of home in Meadville. They were married Dec. 31, 1966. Beulah was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Herman Cecil, a sister, Mary Ann Patterson, and a brother, Junior Melvin. In addition to her husband she is survived by her sister and caregiver, Betty Tharp, of Meadville and her brothers, Jim Woody, of Belton, Bill Woody, of Sacramento, Calif., Ray Woody, Texas, and David Woody, of Woodland, Calif. Beulah is also survived by three surrogate grandchildren along with their spouses and six great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren are Dana Melton, Meadville, Richard Tharp, North Hampton, N.H. and Heather Hall of Ellisville. Aunt Sis will also be greatly missed by the many nieces and nephews who she nurtured and encouraged through the years. Beulah had worked in the restaurant business in many different capacities and she enjoyed singing and yard work. She was devoted to her family and they will enjoy stories of her antics for many years to come. A memorial service celebrating Beulah's life will be held Saturday, Sept. 30, at 10 a.m. at the Full Gospel Church in Monegaw Springs. Her ashes will be buried in the Meadville cemetery.

Pauline Prier died Aug. 4, 2008 at Research Hospital in Kansas Citty, MO. Pauline was born on Dec. 16, 1917, at home near Quincy, to Oscar and Bessie Shepard Parsons. She received her early education in a country school near Quincy and graduated from Weaubleau High School. She received her teaching credentials from Baldwin College and Warrensburg Missouri College. She taught grade school for three years near Quincy. During World War II, Pauline and a group of friends traveled to California and worked in the airplane plants on the Black Widow Gliders that helped end the war. She was a member of the New Horizon Church of the Nazarene in Belton. She married Reno "Jiggs" Prier on Aug. 13, 1939. Jiggs preceded her in death on June 25, 1977. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister Verna Grulie; brothers Clarence, Basil and Charles Parsons and a grandson Chad Roy Kirby. She is survived by three daughters, Sharon Kay Knecht of Calhoun, Phebe Gail Halsey and Janice Brindle, both of Belton; one brother, John Parsons of Appleton City; four grandsons, Jeremy and Marc Prier of Belton and Tad and Clint Knecht of Calhoun; nine great-grandchildren; one special sister-in-law Naomi Parsons of Overland Park, Kansas; nieces, nephews and numerous friends. Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 6, at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel with Pastor Jeff Fletcher officiating. Donna Henderson was soloist and accompanied by Gail Ingle. Casketbearers were: Jeremy Prier, Clint Knecht, Marc Prier, Charles Parsons, Tad Knecht and Stanley Parsons. Honorary casketbearers were: Johnnie Parsons, Jr., Wayne Parsons, Vernon Parsons, Roy Parsons, Leslie Parsons and Rodney Halsey. Interment was in Kidds Chapel Cemetery.

Arthelia was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Lawrence Keith Pritchard; her parents, Charles and Mary Lutitia Lysinger; two sisters and one son. She is survived by two daughters, Carol McCoy, Raytown and Ruie Pritchard, Raleigh, N.C.; two sons, Charles Pritchard, Houston, Texas and Robert Pritchard, Springfield; five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services for Harry L. Pritchard were held Monday, January 12, 1976, at 2 p.m. in the El Dorado Springs Christian Church with the Rev. Paul Whitfield officiating. Burial was in the El Dorado Springs cemetery under the direction of Isbell-Carothers Funeral Home. Mr. Pritchard, a native of St. Clair County, died Thursday in the El Dorado Springs Memorial Hospital at the age of 90. He was a retired teacher, farmer and banker and had been cashier at the Roscoe bank and the Lowry City bank. He retired 15 years ago as executive vice-president of the Tri-County State Bank in El Dorado Springs. Mr. Pritchard served two terms, from 1918 to 1926, as Recorder of Deeds in St. Clair County and the family made their home in Osceola for a number of years. He is survived by his wife Ruth; four sons, Jack of Kansas City, Keith of Grandview, William S. of Houston, Tex. and Harry L. of Nevada; two daughters, Mrs. Laura L. Pickell, Kansas City and Mrs. Margaret Wallace, Houston, Tex. He also leaves 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Loren C. "Buck" Pritchard, 75, Blue Springs, passed away Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at the Kansas City Veterans Administration Hospital in Kansas City. He was born July 22, 1931 in Osceola to Curtis F. and Stella Mae Waggle Pritchard. He spent four years in the U.S. Navy after growing up in Independence, where he attended many grade schools and finished at William Chrisman High School class of 1950. Returning from the Navy, he graduated from William Jewel College four years later with a degree in Business Administration. Most of his life career was spent in the field of real estate. In 1957, he met his wife of nearly 49 years, Patti Pollock Pritchard. They had two daughters, Lori LeAnn Weddle and her husband, Brian, Grain Valley and Nicole Marie Edgington, Blue Springs; four grandchildren, Jacob and Aaron Weddle and Josh and Lauren Edgington; and a sister, Linda Leonard and her husband, Robert, Springfield. His sister was Lucille Delaporte, Osceola and niece and nephew Mary and Bud Delaporte, all deceased. Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence. Burial with full military honors was in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City.

PRITCHARD, WILLIAM SYLVESTER

William Sylvester Pritchard (Bill) 89, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2011 at his home in Kansas City, MO after a long illness. Bill was born February 20, 1922 in Osceola, MO. He graduated from high school in Eldorado Springs, MO in 1939. He attended the University of Kansas City for two years before being commissioned in the Air Force during WW II as a 2nd Lieutenant. From July to December 1944, he flew 35 missions over Nazi-occupied Europe and Germany as a Bombardier- Navigator on a B-17. His war journal of these 35 missions is awe inspiring and would make a dramatic movie script. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his heroism during his service. After the war, he obtained a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Missouri-Columbia with honors and was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received his master's degree from the University of Iowa  and taught high school English for two years in Orland Park, IL, just outside Chicago. He then went to work for DuPont in Kansas City, MO, and later in Houston, TX, as a sales representative in their paint division. All this time, he served in the Air Force Reserves, retiring as a Major after 20 years of service. In August 1982, after 28 years of employment with DuPont, he retired to his historic home near the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Harry Lawrence and Rucynthia (Ruth) Pritchard of Eldorado Springs, MO; by a brother, Lawrence Keith Pritchard of Grandview, MO; a sister, Laura Lovell Pickel of Kansas City, MO; a brother, Judge Jack Pence Pritchard of Kansas City, MO; a brother, Harry Lewis Pritchard of Nevada, MO; and his longtime friend, M. Ross Pottenger of Kansas City, MO. He is survived by a sister, Margaret Ann Gartman of Houston, TX; fourteen nephews and nieces; and an abundance of grand and great grand nephews and nieces. We all have wonderful memories of our Uncle Bill. His thoughtfulness, sense of humor, generosity, and his dapper and dignified presence at our large and sometimes chaotic family gatherings will be missed. And of course, we will miss his multi- generations of toy schnauzers, which, although Bill was a wordsmith, were all named Henrietta. Burial will be in the Eldorado Springs city cemetery. A memorial service with family and friends is planned to be held this spring at the First Christian Church in Eldorado Springs. Former area resident struck by car, killed. Osceola, Mo. - A 68 year oldformer Kansass City, Kansas man died Wednesday after being struck by a car on Missouri 13, two miles south of Osceola. The Missouri Highway Patrol said the victim, Floyd E. Pruett, was struck by a northbound car, while he was collecting cans along the road. The car, driven by June Hilbrich of West Plains, Mo., swerved off the right side of the road. The driver was taken to an Osceola hospital, with minor injuries, the patrol said and Mr. Pruett was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Pruett was a machine operator for the Vess Cola Bottling Co. before he retired. He was born near Willow Springs, Mo., and lived in Kansas City, Kansas for 40 years before he moved to Osceola in 1977.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Mary Pruett of the home, a son, Jerry C. Pruettand two daughters, Mrs. Patricia V. Romines and Mrs. Gail Sims, all of Kansas City, Kansas; three stepsons, Ray Cannon, Littleton, Colo., Floyd Cannon, Redlands, CA, and Dale Studdard, Independence; three brothers, Albert Pruett and Ralph Pruett of Mtn. View, Mo; Roscoe Pruett of Kansas City, Kansas; four sisters, Mrs. Mildred Dillon, Kansas City, Kansas, Mrs.Verda Swenson and Mrs. Ollie Emmerich of Mtn. Maudie Pryne Dies Jan. 26th - Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, January 26, 1966, at Goodrich Chapel for Mrs. Maudie Pryne, 75, who died Jan. 23, 1966. Officiating at the service was James Fulton with burial made in the Osceola cemetery. Mrs. Pryne, daughter of John and Mary Hooper, was born near Osceola March 15, 1890. On October 25, 1915, she was married to Joseph Shelby Pryne. Three sons were born to the couple. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren. Preceding her in death were her husband, who died in 1958, and her son Johnny William was killed in action during World War II. Survivors are two sons, Kenneth and Junior, four grandchildren, Doris, Jo Ann, kay and Kenneth Paul; two daughters-in-law, Beaulah and Minerva, all of Kansas City; one sister, Birdie Moore and one sister-in-law, Maude Hooper of Osceola.

Margaret May Pryor was born Dec. 29, 1919 in Jackson County, the daughter of George and Leona Lewis McGinnis. She passed away Saturday, May 27, 2006, at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City at the age of 86. Margaret was a graduate of Metz High School, class of 1939. She was united in marriage to Owen Pryor on May 5, 1939. To this union six children were born. Margaret and Owen raised their children on a farm in the Metz area. She worked in the Metz school as a cook for several years. She was a member of the Rinehart Christian Church for 60 plus years and taught the nursery class for 41 years. Margaret and her son, Rex, moved to Rich Hill in 2001. She was a very dedicated mother, caring for Rex after the loss of her husband. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Owen; son Rex; one grandson; and one great granddaughter. Margaret is survived by two sons, Charles Pryor and his wife Marlene of Louisville, Ky.; Richard Pryor of Rockville; three daughters, Mary Sheldon and her husband Virgil of Ft. Scott, Kan., Ruth Wheatley and her husband Terry of Rich Hill, Evelyn Corl and her husband Jim of Rich Hill; 12 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Furnell of Mesa, Ariz, and Mildred Ellifritis of Kansas City; one brother, Robert L. McGinnis of Milo and one sister-in-law, Ruth Raps. Services were held Wednesday, May 31 at the Heuser Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Prkey officiating. The music by Bro. Puffenbarger Service At Mt. Zion - Funeral services for Mrs. Rosa Puffenbarger, 86, who died June 2 at the Ellett Memorial Hospital were conducted at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 4, at the Church of God (Holiness) in Appleton City by the Rev. Charles Welch. Pallbearers were Claude Coleman, Vincent Engeman, Elvin Marshall, Ross Wingfield, Everett Nichols and Robert Nichols. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Rosa William Bagwell was born Jan. 11, 1877 near Clinton, the daughter of Samuel W. and Lucy Silvers Bagwell. In 1893 she married James Puffenbarger at Warsaw and to this union a son, Alva Edward, was born. Her husband preceded her in death in 1943. She had lived on a farm near Monegaw for some time and in 1944 moved to 113 East First Street in Appleton City, which remained her home. While in her teens she was baptized by a Baptist minister. She was most faithful in attendance at the Church of God (Holiness) in Appleton City.
"Aunt Judy", as Mrs. Puffenbarger was affectionately known, made many friends and was devoted to her family.
She leaves a son, Alva, of Tiffin, Mo.; a foster daughter, Mrs. Gene (Ruth) Hughes of Jerome, Idaho; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.

Richard was raised on the farm in Volga, Iowa and was a life long farmer who went to be with our Heavenly Father June 28, 2007 from Big Spring Care Center, Humansville. He is preceded in death by his parents, Vern C. and Marie Puffett; a brother, Charles Puffett and a granddaughter, Ashley VanSickel. Richard is survived by his wife, Ruth Puffett; four children, Vern and Kathy Puffett, Lebanon, Denise and Joe Cristy, Osceola, Mark and Leslie Puffett, Morrisville and Leon Puffett of the home; four grandchildren, LeeAnn Puffett, Deanna Puffett, Karissa Puffett and Cory Puffett; three step-grandchildren, Anthony Rumbaugh and Joannah and Tyler Christy; two great grandchildren, Angel Marie and Daisy Ann; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews as well as many friends. Richard will be missed by all who knew him. Graveside services for Richard will be at Robinson Cemetery, Collins, July 6, 2 p.m., with Minister Greg Mangum officiating, under the direction of the Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

Gene E. Pulley, 62, El Dorado Springs, an upholstery shop owner and operator, died Thursday, June 5, 2003 at his home. Graveside services were Sunday, June 8 at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, near El Dorado Springs, Mo.

PUNTNEY, John H.
Clinton, Mo. - Died Monday, March 13, about six o'clock, the immortal spirit of John H. Punteney passed to the better world, after a lingering illness of about three months. Born June 18, 1815 in Pennsylvania but while yet an infant was taken to west Virginia, where he lived until he was 16, when he went to Indiana to reside. In 1880, located in St. Clair County where he lived until about six years ago when he came to Clinton. He joined the North Methodist Church in 1836, has been a faithful Christian. He had been suffering from heart disease for several years. Leaves a wife and eight children. Burial in Englewood.

Loene Purvis  - December 16, 1923 - March 24, 2008 - Wilma Loene (Muchmore) Purvis of Grandview, Missouri was born December 16, 1923 in St. Clair County in Appleton City, Missouri. She was the daughter of Eldon R. Muchmore and Flossie A. (Ralph) Muchmore. On March 20, 1940 she married Oren Kenneth Purvis. To this union 6 children were born. Loene was preceded in death by her parents Eldon R and Flossie A. Muchmore, four sisters, two brothers and an infant daughter Susan Nyretta. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Oren Kenneth Purvis, her children Kenneth Lamont and wife Lois, Larry and wife Vicki, Patti Young and husband Ron, Danny and wife Carol and Debbie Angell and husband Don, 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Loene’s devotion to her family was first and foremost. Her second enjoyment throughout her life was music which began as a young girl with her brother and continued with her own children.
