NALL, Virginia Irene Brown

Virginia Irene Nall was born on Oct. 17, 1919, in Excello to Joseph and Susan Catherine Lucas Brown. She passed away March 16, 2006, at the Sac-Osage Hospital in Osceola. Virginia was a member of the community for the past 54 years. She was a very active member in the Vista Baptist Church and worked in many different businesses in Osceola throughout her life. She loved her flowers and was very active until her death. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Susan Catherine Brown; one son, Walter Rex Nall; her husband, Lonnie Oral Nall; one stepson, O.W. Nall; and two sisters, Maxine Hewitt and Marjorie Culbertson. She is survived by her loving companion, Joe Martin; four children, Warren Nall of Lowry City, Martha Beach of Osceola, Lourita Kirk of Clinton and Linda Thomas of Osceola; 23 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren and an abundance of friends. Services were held Monday, March 20, at 11 a.m. at the Vista Baptist Church. The minister was Rev. Curtis Owen. The music was “Amazing Grace” and “In the Garden” by Angie Howerton, Jim Suiter and Marti Suiter. Casket bearers were Roger Lee Beach, John Wesley Jamsck, Brent Wayne Thomas, Texas Wayne Nall, Brian Rex Thomas and Eric Lynn Thomas. Interment was in the Osceola Cemetery.

NANCE, Dora F. Baker

Dora F. Baker Nance, Collins, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield.
Dora was born March 29, 1924 in Osceola to David and Rosa McNelly Baker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her parents, David and Rosa, five brothers, Fred, Alva, Paul, Delbert and Dale, three half-brothers, Everett, Floyd and Roscoe and two sisters, Opal Cooper and Mildred Hopkins. She is survived by her five sons and their wives, Ronnie and Judy, Kenneth and Carole, and Melvin and Marilyn, all of Collins. Wayne and Sandy of Deepwater and Ray and Jeannie of Collins; twelve grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; three sisters, Ethel Mathiesen of Humansville, Viola McCoy of Weaubleau and Virginia and Bob Miller of Holden.
Services were held Saturday, April 5, at the Sheldon Chapel with Rev. Leo Keller officiating. Soloist Gale
Ingle sang "In The Garden" and "Precious Memories".  Casketbearers were: Mike Nance, Steve Nance, Jerry Nance, Travis Nance, Jarney Nance, Rick Nance, Aaron Nance and Steven Richards. Interment was in Robinson Cemetery.

LT. COL. RETIRED ELVIN JAMES NANCE - Elvin James Nance was born July 4, 1920. He passed away Nov. 29, 2007, age 87 years and four months. He was the fifth of six children born to Edmund L. & Lora L. Thompson Nance, on the family farm near Collins.  He graduated from Shady Nook Grade school, Osceola, Missouri High School and attended Central Missouri State University. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Hazel; sister Lora Lee Nance Foster; brother, Vernon Nance and nieces and nephews. Final disposition, cremation in the Nance cemetery.

Judy M. Nance, December 6, 1946 - January 25, 2009. Mrs. Judy Marilyn Nance, 62, Collins, died Sunday January 25, 2009 in St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield. The daughter of James Edward and Jewel Opal (Keller) Clayton, she was born December 6, 1946 at Humansville. In January 1973 Judy began her employment with Witt Printing Company where she was a receptionist. On October 1, 1982, she and Ronnie Nance were married. Her parents and a grandson, Trevor Edmiston, preceded her in death. Surviving is her husband, Ronnie, of the home; her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Damon Edmiston, El Dorado Springs; 2 step-sons, Jamey Nance and wife, Cody, Bolivar and Travis Nance, Collins; and 4 grandchildren, Tevis Edmiston, Ashley, Carley and Brooklyn Nance. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 28, 2009 in Murray Funeral Home, Humansville, with Rev. Brent Bland officiating. Pallbearers will be Damon Edmiston, Jamey Nance, Travis Nance, Melvin Nance, Ray Nance and Lowell Hughes. Interment will be in the Humansville Cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral after noon on Tuesday.

NANCE, Robert Lee

In Memory of Dear Brother. - Robert Lee Nance was born August 9, 1870, departed this life June 13, 1914, was married to Miss Myrtle Yost some twenty years ago. To this union was born three children, Mrs. Oscar Kelly of Hobson, Mont., Harry, age 12 and little Lois age 4, with those he leaves an aged father, four sisters and brothers to mourn for him, mother and one brother going on before. Lee professed faith in Christ some twelve years ago and was baptized. While he may not have lived an ideal Christian life yet he was good and true, he was honest and upright in all his dealings. He was a good citizen, a kind husband and father and a loving brother. All that good Doctors and kind hands could do was done to relieve his suffering. He suffered all he could until Jesus said it is enough, come with Me and he quietly fell asleep. His funeral was conducted at his home by Rev. Birdsong and then followed by a large gathering of relatives and friends, We laid him to rest by the side of his mother in the little family burying ground, a beautiful little spot close by the babbling brook and fields wherein he use to work and sing. He will be missed by all but most by little Lois who begged them to make papa get well.

NAYLOR, Frank George

FRANK G. NAYLOR PASSES - As we all must do when the summons comes, Frank G. Naylor answered the call of the father and entered into the haven of rest at 10:15 o'clock, Saturday night, May 13, 1933. He was 66 years, 3 months and 20 days of age at the time of his passing. Frank George Naylor, son of James F. and Priscilla Naylor, was born in Troy, Ashland County, Ohio, January 23, 1867. He moved, with his parents, to Caldwell County, Misouri at the age of 15 years. On March 11, 1891, he was united in marriage to Etta M. Henkins. To this union seven children were born, three having preceded their father to the land from which no traveler returns. Loyd, age 9 and Raymond age 2, being taken away just one week apart while the family resided in Kansas City and Doris, age 12, passing away March 19, 1919. After residing in Caldwell County 12 years, the family moved to Kansas City and two years later came to St. Clair County. Mr. Naylor was converted at an early age in a meeting conducted by his father and later joined the Church of Christ at Lyons, Ohio He later moved his membership to the Lowry City Christian Church. On January 19, he was taken sick with influenza and pneumonia and complications quickly followed from which he never recovered. Those left to mourn his death are the wife, Etta M Naylor; one son, James R. Naylor; two daughters, Mrs. Jess E. Cooper and Nelda E. Naylor, all of the Lowry City community and another daughter, Mrs. Buel Snyder of Clinton, Missouri; one brother, Charles C. of Lowry City; one sister, ,Mrs. Charles Hoit of Lyons, Ohio,amd eight grandchildren. Besides these are near relatives and a host of friends.

NAYLOR, Fredrick Denzil

Fredrick Denzil Naylor was born July 1, 1928, in Hustonia, to Otto Jack and Gladys Marie Bobbitt Naylor. He passed away Aug. 7, 2005, at St. John’s Regional Health Center, Springfield. Fred worked for 25 years for the Kansas City Kansas Board of Education District 500. He also owned his own cleaning business for 20 years. Fred was an avid crafter and woodworker. Fred was preceded in death by his mother and father; an infant brother and grandson, Shane Denzil Naylor. He is survived by his loving wife, Janet, of the home; his children, Alan Naylor, Gladys Ridge, Gary Naylor, Rebecca Driskoll, Fred Naylor, Mike Naylor and Coleen Manthel; his brothers, Jack Naylor and Charles Naylor; sister, Willie Sue Bretz; 18 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Services for Fred were Thursday, Aug. 11, at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel with Pastor Andrew Jasper officiating. Music was furnished by Pastor and Mrs. Andrew Jasper. Casketbearers were Mike Bretz, Bill Bretz, Wayne Franks, Joe Bretz, Brian Bretz and Ernie Jackson. Honorary casketbearers were Jim Naylor and George Leimknhler. Interment was in Lowry City Cemetery under the direction of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

NAYLOR, Maud Evelyn Becks

Maud Evelyn Naylor was born October 4, 1899, near Deepwater, the youngest of 10 children born to John and Melissa Birnel Becks. She died February 6, 1995, at Truman Lake Manor in Lowry City where she had made her home the past five years. She spent her early years in the Deepwater/Montrose area. She graduated from Montrose High School and attended college in Warrensburg where she became certified to teach elementary education. She spent several years teaching in various country schools. In February of 1946 she was united in marriage to James Rawly Naylor. They spent most of their married life in the Lowry City area. He preceded her in death in April of 1983. She was a longtime member of the Lowry City Christian Church and active in the Order of the Eastern Star as long as her heath permitted. She was preceded in death by all nine of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by two stepsons, John O. Naylor of Lowry City, and Robert Naylor of Hermann; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Helen Wilcox of Columbia, Mrs. Norman Baxter of Buffalo, and Mrs. Roma Thompson of Hawthorne, California, several step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Friday, February 10, at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel in Osceola. Burial was in Lowry City Cemetery.

NEALE, James Y.
James Y. Neale Dies Wednesday, March 8 -- Jame Young Neale, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Neale, died March 8, 1944, at his home in Appleton City, at the age of 85 years, seven months and ten days. He was born in Johnson county, Mo., July 28, 1858, and was a resident of that county and St. Clair county for the rest of his life. He was well known in this community. Mr. Neale was married to Mary S. Springer on Sept. 25, 1884. He is survived by his wife and seven sons: A.D. Neale, Kansas City; Paul C. Neale, Fairbanks, Iowa; Lewis S. Neale, Kansas City; John Neale of Marshalltown, Iowa; Herbert Neale, Northwood, Iowa; Robert F. Neale, of Appleton City; Rollie Neale of Inglewood, California. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Leslie J. Neale, who died Dec. 26, 1936. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church, Sunday, March 12, at 1:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. R.E. Schwart. Interment was made in Appleton City Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Clay Neale, Fred Neale, Tom Neale, Ralph Neale, Ernest Neale and Walter Neale. All of Mr. Neale's sons, as named, were in attendance at their father's funeral. Rollie will remain indefinitely to be with his mother who is quite sick at this time.

NEALE, Robert Frances

Graveside services for Robert Frances Neale, 92, will be at the Appleton City Cemetery Wednesday, November 29. Robert Frances Neale, son of James Younger and Mary (Springer) Neale, was born June 19, 1903, in St. Clair County. He lived nearly all of his life in the Appleton City area, except for the time which he was in the Armed Services. He worked as a carpenter most of his life. He loved to quail hunt and would always go out of his way to help anyone in need. Survivors include six nephews and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, and seven brothers, Archie, Herb, John, Les, Louis, Paul and Rollie.

NEARHOFF, Illeen

Miss Illeen Nearhoff, member of the Junior Class of our High School, died at the family home on Round Prairie Monday afternoon and the following day the class attended the funeral. Deceased was a most exemplary student and charming young lady and her death is deeply deplored by her host of friends. She ranked as one of the best students in her classes and gave promise of a life most useful. Her death was due to an attack of typhoid fever.

NEELY, R. C.

Mr. R.C. Neely was buried in the Appleton Cemetery last Monday evening. Mr. Neeley came to Appleton City about two years ago from Kentucky. He was a man of the mind and had followed the business of book-keeping before coming here. He came here a stranger and, nothing else offering, he engaged work in a coal mine well knowing that his abilities would soon be recognized and find him more remunerative employment. This proved to be the case, and he was soon engaged by Messrs. E. Allen & Co. in the management of their business. This position he held and honorably tilled until about fifteen months since he was taken sick with the flux. The disease completely undermined his health and with all his nerve and the best medical skill in the county could not shake it off. By his gentlemanly bearing, liberal views and urbane treatment he won the esteem of all with whom he met. He was secretary of the Appleton City Lodge A.F.& A.M. thirty one years old and leaves a wife and two children.

NELSON, Herbert Allen Jr.

Herbert Allen Nelson, Jr. was born June 20, 1938 to Herbert and Betty Ruth Nelson in Omaha, NE. He unexpectedly passed away Oct. 13, 2008 at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton. On June 22, 1957 Herb was united in marriage to Marie Thorp. To this union five children were born, Norma, Peggy, Paul, Jimmy and David. In 1963 Herb accepted Christ as his savior at the Baptist Church in Lead Hill, Arkansas. He, also, pastored at the Liberty Community Church in Aurora for five years and did revivals after that. He and Marie are current members of the First Baptist Church, Osceola. Herb enjoyed family very much whether it was camping, hunting, motorcycling or the many family reunions. He loved life. Flying and working on planes was something he loved doing so much that he received his pilots license in 2001. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Alberta Nelson and his grandson Jason Jordan. He is survived by his wife Marie; his children Norman and wife Janet, Bethel Heights, Arkansas, Peggy and husband Billy, Hermitage, Paul and wife Tammy, Calhoun, Jimmy, Osceola, David and wife Jennifer, Blairstown; grandchildren, Ryan, Jalina, Nathan, Braley, and Cody; step-grandchildren, Nick and A.J. Hampton; great-grandchildren Taylor, Arsen and Preston Nelson; four brothers, Richard and wife B.J., Duane and wife Jan, and Bobby; one sister Cathy Stewart and husband Kenny; along with many nieces and nephews. Herb will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Services were held Thursday, Oct. 16 at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel officiated by Reverend Scott Hill. Music selections included "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace" by Donna Carney. Casket bearers were Randy Nelson, Eddie Nelson, Neil Nelson, Darrel Nelson, Dennis Nelson, Todd Stewart and Jim Stewart. Honorary casketbearers were Ryan Nelson, Nathan Nelson, Bradley Nelson and Cody Nelson. Interment was held in Macedonia Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home.

NELSON, Lena Elizabeth Bourland

Lena Elizabeth Nelson was born June 18, 1910 on the family farm near Osceola, to Harry and Rebecca (Nichols) Bourland. She passed away Feb. 7, 2009 at Truman Lake Manor, Lowry City. On September 18, 1933, Lena was united in marriage on the family farm to James Oscar Nelson. Oscar preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1982. Lena worked for 25 years as a silkscreen operator, filling government contracts at Gill’s Studio in Kansas City. She also worked for 10 years on the assembly line making radios for Motorola. Lena spent many years working beside her husband, Oscar, at the rescue mission in Kansas City. She was a faithful member of the Lowry City Church of God (Holiness).  Lena and Oscar did not have children but enjoyed all the times spent with her many nieces and nephews. Her home was always open to everyone, and when they came she always insisted on feeding them a good meal. Lena was also preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Rebecca Bourland, one brother, Tom Bourland and two sisters, Dorothy Powell and Evelyn Hughes. She is survived by her sister, Eunice Hollopeter, Clinton, her cousin and caregiver the last two years, Naomi Collins; twenty nieces and nephews; her foster son, Dan L. Schultz, Osceola, and her church family, other relatives and many friends. Services were Monday, Feb.9 at 2 p.m. at Church of God (Holiness) Lowry City. Ministers were Rev. Steve Elsey and Rev. I.C. Holland. Music was “Amazing Grace” by the congregation, “I Shall Know Him” and “What a Day That Will Be” by Harold and Philena Scott. Casketbearers were Donnie Powell, David Bourland, John Bourland, Bob Bourland, Steve Hughes, and Charles Bourland. Honorary casketbearers were Darrell Hahn, Louis Bruce, Shelby Briggs, Ervin Bourland, Richard Powell, Roger Powell, James Wilkins, Harry Hughes, Max Koch, Melvin Nelson, and Rob Howerton. Interment at Lowry City Cemetery. Arrangements under direction of the Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of God (Holiness), Lowry City.

NEUENSCHWANDER, Alfred A.
Alfred A. Neuenschwander, 86, Deepwater, died Sunday, October 15, 1995, at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton. Mr. Neuenschwander was born near the Valley Center community and was a lifelong area resident and farmer. He was a member of the St. Clair County Extension Council and 4-H leader. He was a member of the Valley Center United Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Helen of the home; two sons, Art Neuenschwander of Deepwater and John Neuenschwander of Longview, Washington; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Fulwider, Deepwater, Mrs. Pat Stewart, Lowry City, and Mrs. Joan Simmons, Holt Summit; two brothers, Amos and Dan Neuenschwander of Deepwater; one sister, Mrs. Anna Shy of Lowry City; 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandsons. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 18, at 2 p.m. at the Valley Center United Church of Christ. Burial will be in the Valley Center Cemetery.

NEUENSCHWANDER, Amos Mathias

Amos M. Neuenschwander, 87, Appleton City, formerly of Deepwater, died Friday, March 22, 2002, at Ellett Memorial Hospital, Appleton City. He was born March 15, 1915, in the Valley Center area near Deepwater. He was a 1933 graduate of Lowry City High School. He operated a lumberyard in Lowry City, served as the county ASCS office manager and 12 years as the public administrator in St. Clair County. He was a lifelong member of the Valley Center United Church of Christ and a 50-year member of Lowry City Lodge #403 AF & AM. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruby, of the home; one son, Robert F. Neuenschwander of Springfield; three daughters, Mrs. Dee Ann Greenwell and husband, Larry, Lee's Summit, Mrs. Cindy McDaniel and husband, Ted, Appleton City, and Sara Reynolds and husband, Jerry, Lee's Summit; five grandchildren, one step-grandchild, three great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren. Funeral and Masonic services were Monday, March 25, at 2 p.m. at the Valley Center United Church of Christ, Deepwater. Burial was in the Valley Cemetery, under the direction of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

Beverly Ann Neuenschwander was born September 23, 1942 in Los Angeles, California, to Everett and Gussie Doyle Martin, and died Thursday, October 17, 2002 at Clinton. On September 5, 1965, she married Clarence Neuenschwander. She was a member of the Collins Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her father, Everett Martin, and a brother, Larry Inman. She is survived by her husband, Clarence, of the home; three daughters, Mary Beth Sack and her husband, Jerry, North Platte, Nebraska, Susan Coon and her husband, Russell, Bethel, Cindy Neuenschwander of Clinton; her mother, Gussie Martin, Collins; one brother, Kenneth Martin and his wife, Cristine, Olathe, Kansas; grandchildren, Tristan, Tanis and Trevin Sack, North Platte, Nebraska, Kathryn and Jacob Coon of Bethel; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Sunday, October 20, at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel. Burial was in Valley Center Cemetery.

Dan J. Neuenschwander, 84, rural Deepwater, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at the Golden Valley Hospital, Clinton. He was born October 17, 1917, son of Arthur and Nettie Hagman Neuenschwander. On May 25, 1939, he married Ivonne Sampson in Anita, Iowa. He was a lifelong resident and farmer in the Valley center area. He was a charter member of the Lakeland R-III School Board, MFA Dairy Board of El Dorado Springs, Mid-Am Dairy Board of Springfield and served as a deacon of the Valley Center United Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Robert Leon; brother, Alfred; infant grandson, Curtis Lee Rodabaugh, and one brother-in-law, Faris Shy. His brother, Amos, died March 22, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ivonne, of the home; five children, Jo Susan and husband, Tom Rodabaugh of Osceola, Larry and wife, Doris Jean Neuenschwander, Deepwater, Judy and husband, Albert Watson, Windsor, Jane and husband, J.W. Salley, Warsaw, and Jean and husband, Bill Ryberg, Deepwater; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Amos and wife, Ruby, Appleton City; one sister, Anna Shy, Lowry City; one sister-in-law, Helen, Deepwater; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and friends. Robert L. (Bob) Neuenschwander died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at the Kansas City VA Hospital. He was born on December 25, 1932, in rural Deepwater, the son of Clayton E. and Martha Leiber Neuenschwander. He completed eight years at Valley Center Grade School, four years at Clinton High School and two and a half years at MU Columbia. He was confirmed in the Valley Center E&R Church. On July 5, 1959, he married Shirley Dempsey. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; his son, David and fiancee Pat Caven, his son Paul, his daughter Kari and son-in-law Terry Michael, and son Kyle and daughter-in-law Dawn; nine grandchildren;  his brother, Clarence Neuenschwander of Clinton; two sisters, Bernice Martin of Appleton City and Carolyn VanWinkle of Deepwater; eight nieces and seven nephews. Funeral services were held at the Valley Center United Church of Christ, Deepwater, Sunday, July 28. Burial was in Valley Center Cemetery,
Deepwater.

Ruth Ivonne Sampson Neuenschwander passed away in the family home May 7, 2006. Ivonne was born July 1, 1921 in rural Deepwater, the daughter of Eliza and Lois Dody Sampson. On May 25, 1939, she was united in marriage to Daniel John Neuenschwander in Anita, Iowa. To this union five children were born. Ivonne was a homemaker who worked faithfully along side Dan on their dairy farm. She took pride in her home, vegetable garden and flowers. Ivonne was a member of the Valley Center United Church of Christ and the Valley Center Ladies Aide. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years; her parents; two brothers, Earl and Clayton; an infant sister, Wanita; and an infant grandson, Curtis Lee Rodabaugh. Ivonne is survived by her five children, Jo Susan and Tom Rodabaugh of Osceola; Larry Clayton and Doris Jean Neuenschwander of Deepwater; Judith Ann and Albert Watson of Windsor; Jane Ellen and J. W. Salley of Warsaw; Jean Marie and Bill Ryberg of Deepwater; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Edna Mae Sampson of  Napa, Calif.; and Ruby Neuenschwander of Appleton City; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Services were Wednesday, May 10, at 10:30 a.m. at the Valley Center United Church of Christ. The minister was Rev. Dane Sommer. The music was "Old Rugged Cross", "How Great Thou Art" and "Precisions Lord, Take My Hand" by Kathy Conrad, soloist, and Linda Lysinger, accompanist. Casketbearers were Chris Rodabaugh, Ed Meuenschwander, Bill Neuenschwander, Jason Salley, Dan Rodabaugh, Jim Neuenschwander, Kyle Salley and Jeff Salley. Honorary Casketbearers were Roy Shy, Art Neuenschwander, Glen Manbeck, John Rufenacht and Sean Vanslyke. The interment was at Valley Center Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home.

NEUENSCHWANDER, Walter Charles

Walter Charles Neuenschwander, a resident of Livermore, Ca. since 1985, died from a sudden illness Thursday, November 12, 1992 at Eden Hospital. He was 90 years old.  He was born in Oklahoma City, Ok. July 26, 1902. About the age of five years his folks moved to the Valley Center vicinity south of Deepwater, where he grew to manhood. Mr. Neuenschwander was a graduate of Warrensburg College, a retired chemist for the federal government, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Livermore. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Catherine Babler Neuenschwander of Livermore; his son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Donna Neuenschwander of Livermore; his sisters, Hilda Laughman of West Covina, and Esther Tompkins of Deepwater; a granddaughter, Debra Millar of Kenya, Africa; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service was conducted Wednesday, November 18, 1992 at the Chapel of Callaghan Morturary, Livermore. Burial was at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Livermore.

NEWCOMB, James Chester

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Oct 28, at the Goodrich Chapel for James Chester Newcomb, who died Oct. 25. Elder Harper officiated at the services. Burial was made in the Osceola cemetery,
Mr. Newcomb, son of James Marion and Etta Newcomb was born April 24, 1896. He was married to Stella Mae Stephens March 29, 1924. One child born to this couple died in infancy. He spent about 26 years as an employee of Armour’s packing company in Kansas City. He retired about four years ago and since then has made his home near Vista. Survivors are his wife, a son by a former marriage, Chester Cleo Newcomb, and four grandchildren.

NICHOLS, Eva Blanche Chiles

Eva Blanche Nichols passed away Oct. 19, 2006, at Truman Lake Manor where she had been a resident a short time. She was born April 8, 1912. She was 94 years old. She was the second daughter of Will and Blanche Tullis Chiles. She attended grade school at Park Grove and high school in Osceola. She married Charley G. Nichols March 12, 1932. Four children blessed this union; Charlene Ellifrits, Bill Nichols, Sharon Brown, and Jerry Nichols, all of Lowry City. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her hobby was the art of cooking, which she did wonderfully well. She was in the barbeque resteraunt business for over 50 years in Osceola and Lowry City, where she made many friends and acquaintances. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Lowry City and was a charter member of the Mt. Zion Faith and Hope Club, which was very special to her. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charley of 47 years; son-in-law, Harold Ellifrits; grandson, Chad Nichols; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Wilma Moree and Kathleen Thompson and two brothers, Clifford Chiles and Strieby Chiles. Eva is survived by 10 grandchildren, Edward Hehner, Ricky Hehner, Mark Hehner, Chance Nichols, Bobbi Nichols, Debbie Briggs, J.P. Nichols, Larry brown, Jody Brown and Twila Murphy; four sisters, Dorothy Schmidli, Ethel Jones, Nada Lyon and Norma Jones; 15 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Services for Eva were Sunday, Oct. 22, at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel with Reverend Bob Fenwick and Reverend Jeff Ferguson officiating. Musical selections were "Peace In The Valley" and "Beyond The Sunset" with Richard Sunderwirth, soloist and Carol Rucker, accompanist. Casketbearers were Jon Burrow, Rich Chiles, Mike Jones, Joe Schmidli, Dale Nichols and Bob Lyon. Honorary casketbearers were Frank Nichols, Glen Raymond, Tom Spurgeon, John Nichols, Shawn Chiles and Bob Nichols. Interment was in the Lowry City Cemetery under the direction of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

NICHOLS, Eva Blanche Chiles

Mrs. Eva B. Nichols, 94, Lowry City, died Thursday, October 19, 2006, at Truman Lake Manor in Lowry City. She was a longtime restaurant operator in the Osceola and Lowry City areas. Funeral services were Sunday, October 22, at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel in Osceola. Burial was in Lowry City Cemetery.

NICHOLS, Hattie Mae Kerley

Hattie Mae Nichols (Kerley) lived 101 and half wonderful years. She passed away peacefully at Truman Care Center at Lakewood on Tuesday Morning August 12, 2008. She was born November 25, 1906 in Quincy IL. Married Ross S. Nichols June 12, 1937 in Springfield, Mo where she earned her teaching certificate. They established their home in Raytown, Mo., and raised their two daughters Sharon Rymer and Rosslyn Swift. Hattie Mae taught K-12 in a one room school-house for several years in Colorado. Hattie Mae also taught in the Roscoe-Osceola, Mo area were her parents lived and passed. Raytown Christian Church was her church home for all of her Raytown years. Hattie Mae and Sam celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary there with family and friends. She became a Raytown Eastern Star member #97 in 1938, of which she was always very proud of. Hattie Mae was a home-maker to not only her daughters but her granddaughters too. She also volunteered at Truman Medical Center. A few of Hattie Mae's favorite actives were gardening, canning and sewing. As an active 70 year old she joined a Fitness Center where she enjoyed yoga, water aerobics and socializing with the girls. Hattie Mae enjoyed travels to Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, The Holy Land and the Panama Canal. Hattie enjoyed living in the country with her daughter Sharon for over 12 years. She was preceded in death by her Husband Sam, Parents Dana and Mamie Kerley and Brother Harry Roy. Hattie Mae leaves her Loving family who cared for her the past few years; Daughters Sharon Rymer and Rosslyn Swift. Granddaughter Vickee Walthall (Newton) and Great Granddaughter Amber Marie Snow. Hattie also leaves Jack Swift, son-in law, 2 granddaughters, 4 great-grand children and 2 great- great grandsons, 1 nephew, several cousins and many friends. Hattie's family wants to thank the Staff at Truman Care Center 2 North. Funeral services will be held 12 noon with visitation from 11-12 noon Friday August 15, 2008 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel; burial in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. In memory of Hattie Mae the family suggests contributions can be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements: D.W. This community was made sad to hear of the death of Melvin Nichols, oldest son of Will Nichols. His death occurred on Saturday, November 27, at a hospital in Springfield, after a short illness. His body was tenderly laid to rest Tuesday in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. This community extends sympathy to the bereaved relatives.

NICHOLS, Ore Thomas Jr.

Ore Thomas Nicholas, Jr., son of William T. and Evelyn Victoria Dunham Nichols, was born December 3, 1922, near Appleton City. He passed away August 1, 1991, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Kansas City at the age of 68. Junior, as he was called by his friends and family, spent most of his life in the Appleton City and Rockville areas. He supported his family by working as a farm hand. He served his country in the Army during World War II. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and visiting with friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Sandra Kay Mullen and Carolyn Sue Miller. He is survived by one brother, Homer Nichols of Schell City; two sisters, Delores Johnson of Harrisonville, and Mulreen Hamilton of Norbourne; three grandchildren, Richard Mullin, Carla Stone and Doniece Rice, and one great-grandson. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 3, 1991, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Jim Walker officiating at the Eckhoff-Hill Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Billy Nichols, Bobby Nichols, Ronnie Nichols, Rodney Pettit, Johnny Parks and David Oehring. Burial was in the Taberville Cemetery under the direction of Eckhoff-Hill Funeral Home.

NICKEL, Edith Pauline Moore

Edith Pauline Nickel was born March 11, 1913 in Shelbina, Missouri, the fifth of six children of James and Ella Moore. The family moved to a farm in Lowry City. Edith graduated from Lowry City High School and attended Teachers College in Kansas City. Edith taught school near Lowry City until her marriage to Willard H. Nickel of Osceola. They spent their married life farming near Osceola and raised their three children. She is survived by a son, Gary Nickel of Platte City; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Edith was a wonderful mother, a great cook and wil be saddly missed by her many friends and family. Final disposition, cremation.

NIELSEN, J. N.

J.N. Nielsen, 83, died Saturday, November 20, 2004, at Clinton Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 13, 1921, in Montrose, to John N. Nielsen and Laura Edmonds Nielsen. He grew up in Lowry City and attended First Baptist Church of Lowry City throughout his youth. JN accepted Jesus as Savior and was baptized in the Osage River near the Browns Ford Bridge on a cool fall day, November 11, 1934. This event was with a large group that included his wife of 62 years, Mary Catherine Brack Nielsen. He attended Lowry City Grade School, went on and graduated from the Lowry City High School in 1939. JN served as a Sergeant in the 19th Academic Army Air Corps during World War II. On June 27, 1942, he married Mary Catherine Brack. They lived in Lowry City and later moved to Raytown and lived there until the 1950s. After leaving Raytown, JN and Mary Catherine moved to Chelsea, Oklahoma, and in 1961 moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and resided there until 1994. After 33 years in Tulsa, the couple decided to move closer to their family, friends and their childhood home. They chose Clinton and have lived here in Missouri since that time. Mr. Nielsen worked for General Motors, operated a Ford car dealership and was a machine operator for the Vickers Machine Company in Tulsa. JN and Mary Catherine traveled throughout many states with their motor home and were avid "rock hounds". They were members of Indian Nation Ramblers RV Club for many years. They worked together making jewelry from some of their rock collection and he was very talented at cutting and polishing stones for jewelry making. He, along with his wife Mary Catherine, were faithful members of First Baptist Church of Clinton, since their return to Missouri. The couple have participated in Sunday School activities along with other church functions. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and Paul Nielsen, and one sister Roma Peters. Survivors include a sister, Doris Williams of Lee's Summit; one brother-in-law, Grady Peters, San Angelo, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Winnie Wright Brack, Clinton, Ruth Walden Groff, Deepwater; several nephews and nieces, Linda Shackelford and husband, David Sachs, South Salem, New York, Charles Williams and wife, Judy, Lee's Summit, Braxton Peters of Baltimore, Maryland, Beverly Robertson, Midland, Texas, Eugene Nielsen Gray, Frisco, Texas, James Harold Brack and wife Linda, Deepwater, John Howard Brack Jr. and wife Clarenita, Overland Park, Kansas, Frank Charles Brack and wife Jonetta, Clinton, Paul David Brack and wife Jeffra, St. Charles, Peggy Sue Brack Hills and husband Fred, Osceola, Marilyn Kay Brack Barnes and husband Larry, San Antonio, Texas. JN also leaves a host of great-nieces and nephews, plus many great-grandnieces, nephews and many friends. Funeral services were held at Vansant-Mills Chapel Wednesday, November 24, at 11 a.m. with Rev. James H. Brack and Dr. Randy Shipman officiating. Pallbearers were James Brack, Frank Brack, Paul Brack, Lorenzo Wright, David Walden and Roy Batschelett. Burial was in Lowry City Cemetery, under the direction of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton.

NIELSEN, Mary Catherine Brack

Mary Catherine Nielsen, 83, died Sunday, October 24, 2004, at Clinton Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born August 20, 1921, in St. Clair County to John Brack and Ethel D. Ferguson Brack. Mary Catherine grew up in the rural Lowry City community on Brack Farms, owned and operated by her father.
She attended First Baptist Church of Lowry City throughout her youth and there in 1930 she met and became friends with her sister-in-law-to-be Winnie Wright. Mary Catherine accepted Jesus into her heart in 1934 and was baptized in the Osage River near the Browns Ford Bridge November 11, 1934, along with her brother Harold, friends John, Dorothy, Dana Jeffrey and Geraldine Hawkins. She attended Pleasant View School and graduated Lowry City High School in 1939. Mary Catherine graduated along with JN Nielsen, who became her husband of 62 years, as well as many other lifelong friends. Those friends include her sister-in-law, Winnie Wright Brack, Geraldine Hawkins Stehwein and Dana Jeffery Sharp. They have remained very close throughout her life. Dana and Mary Catherine shared birthday and Christmas cards for 65 years without missing one of these celebrations. She faithfully sent birthday cards, Christmas cards and anniversary cards to a host of friends and relatives without fail. On June 27, 1942, she married JN Nielsen and they lived in Lowry City and later moved to Raytown and lived there until the 1950s. After leaving Raytown, Mary Catherine and JN moved to Chelsea, Oklahoma, and again later moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1961. They resided there until 1994. Following this long stay the couple then decided to move closer to their family and childhood home. Clinton has been their home for the last 10 years. Mary Catherine and JN traveled through many states with their motor home and were avid "Rock Hounds". They were also members of Indian National Ramblers RV Club for many years. JN and Mary Catherine have been faithful members of First Baptist Church of Clinton since their return to Missouri. The couple has participated in Sunday school activities along with other church functions. They have celebrated Christmas with the Brack family every year since their return. The Wright family reunion has been another of their favorite activities for years. Mary Catherine was truly a lady of grace and etiquette, always knowing what to say and when to say it, with the gift of encouragement for all. She had the respect of all of her family and friends alike. Her strong Christian faith led her to always have the greatest concern for those around her, rather than herself. This was one of her many, very fine virtues. Greetings and goodbyes with her always included a warm kiss and a big hug. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harold Brack and John Howard Brack Sr., and one nephew Warren Henry Brack. Survivors include sisters-in-law, Winnie Wright Brack of Clinton, Ruth Groff of Deepwater, Doris Williams of Lee's Summit; several nephews and nieces, James Harold Brack and wife Linda of Deepwater, John Howard Brack Jr. and wife Clarenita of Overland Park, Kansas, Frank Charles Brack and wife Jonetta of Clinton, Paul David Brack and wife Jeffra of St. Charles, Peggy Sue Brack Hills and husband Fred of Osceola, Marilyn Kay Brack Barnes and husband Larry of San Antonio, Texas, Linda Shackleford and husband David of South Salem, New York, Charles Williams and wife Judy of Lee's Summit. She leaves a host of great-nieces and nephews, plus many great-grand-nieces, nephews and many friends. Funeral services were held at Vansant-Mills Chapel Wednesday, October 27, at 10 a.m. with Rev. James H. Brack and Dr. Randy Shipman officiating. Pallbearers were James Brack, John Brack, Frank Brack, Paul Brack, Timothy Brack and Todd Young. Burial was in Lowry City Cemetery under the direction of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton.

NIEMANN, William C. Jr.

William C. "Bill" Niemann , September 12, 1922 - May 23, 2007
William C. Bill Niemann, Jr. was born to William C. and Minnie (Stevener) Niemann September 12, 1922 and completed his lifes journey May 23, 2007. He was baptized at the Reformed Church of Prairie City and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church of Appleton City where he remained a faithful member throughout his life. Except for a period of schooling in St. Louis and serving in the military in Europe during World War II, he spent his entire life in Appleton City. Upon returning from the military, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service and continued there until retirement. He was a Rural Letter Carrier for Route 1 and deeply appreciated the friendships he developed with his patrons. On January 1, 1950 he was married to Neta Duckworth. They became the parents to two sons, one of whom died in infancy. Bill was a dedicated family man who enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, brothers Vernon and Gene, and an infant son Charles. He is survived by his wife of the home, his son Jim, daughter-in-law Lois, grandson Will, and granddaughter Katie. Also surviving is a sister Norma Moldovan, two nephews, three nieces, many other relatives and friends. NIGGLEY, Carl Leland

Carl Leland Niggley, age 79, of Butler, died Friday, May 28, 1993, at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. He was born January 22, 1914 to John and Emma Peters Niggley in Bates County. Carl, nicknamed "Mutt" from the Mutt and Jeff cartoons, was a lifelong resident of Bates County and attended Harmony school near Ballard. As a young boy, he was baptized in the "Round Pool" and became a member of the Salem Baptist Church, more recently was a member of the Butler First Baptist Church. Carl raised white-face cattle and farmed before joining the Army and serving in World War II in the Pacific Theater. In service to his country, he was honored with a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. On December 24, 1941, Carl married Willa Hamilton, and to this union, two daughters were born. He worked for a few years at Welch's Grocery on the southeast corner of the Butler square, and then in 1948 started a 30 year career with John Deere, retiring in 1978. Carl is survived by his wife, Willa Niggley of the home; two daughters, Jean Harms and husband Donald of Appleton City, and Judy Rauscher and husband Warren of Raymore; one brother, Fred Niggley of Butler; one sister, Florence Arnote of Kansas City, Ks.; and four grandchildren, Paul Lawrence Harms, Donald Wayne Harms, Jennifer Lynn Rauscher and Jonathan Martin Rauscher. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Walter and Charles; and three sisters, Alice Grimes, Sadie Niggley, and Cora Hannah. Funeral services were 1:30 p.m., Sunday, May 30, 1993 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler with Rev. Don Stephens officiating. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler.

NISLE, Rosanna Mayer

Mrs. George Nisle was born in Germany, November 20, 1845. Died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. Henselmann, near Appleton City, Mo., April 27, 1913. Her maiden name was Rosanna Mayer. She was married to Geo. Nisle in 1866, at New California, Ohio. To this union seven children were born, five of whom survive her, as follows: J.W. and G.J. Nisle of Bessie, Okla., C.F. Nisle of Waterloo, Wis., Frank Nisle and Mrs. Frank Henselmann of Appleton City, Mo. Her husband died about five years ago and since that time Mrs. Nisle had made her home with her children, being at the home of Mrs. Henselmann when she died. She made her home in Iowa until about three years ago. Deceased was a member of the M.E. Church. The funeral was held at the Henselmann home, conducted by Rev. G.G. Yeoman, after which the body was taken to Washington, Iowa, for burial.
