Mrs. Leroy Lobaugh and little babe left for a visit to relatives near
Lowry Saturday. The babe, but eight months [weeks?] old, was in good
health when they left home but the next morning its little spirit had
gone to that home above. Leroy received the sad news Sunday morning
and the next day their dear one was laid to rest in the graveyard at
Iconium.
LOFTIN, Theodore

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 8, at 2 p.m. in the Pleasant
Springs Baptist Church for Theodore Loftin, 73, route four, El Dorado
Springs, who died Sunday, April 6, 1975, at the Sac Osage Hospital.
Rev. Jack Kiefer officiated at the service and burial was made in
Pleasant Springs cemetery under the direction of Goodrich Funeral
home.
Among his survivors are his wife, Zelma, of the home; daughter,
Marylee Hunter, Blue Springs; two brothers, Homer Loftin, Warsaw,
Charley Loftin, El Dorado Springs; two sisters, Blanch Tally, Clinton,
Lizzie Elliott, Mosby; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren. --

LOFTIN, Thomas Jefferson

Mr. Thomas Jefferson Loftin, 94, better known as Jeff, was born in St.
Clair County, Mo., on June 29, 1892, to Cornelus and Nannie Sims
Loftin and passed away at the Clinton Hospital Sunday, Feb. 15, 1987.
He accepted his faith in Christ and was baptized at an early age.
He was united in marriage to Rena Bulah Hicks on Nov. 14, 1914. To
this union was born eight children: Lewis Loftin, Alfred Loftin of
Norfolk, Va.; Tommy Loftin of Raytown, Mo.; Essie Duddy, San
Bernadino, Calif.; Helen Coleman, El Dorado Springs; Frances Porter,
Kansas City, Mo.; Ruthie Kavanaugh, Sonora, Calif.; and Judy Vickers,
Clinton. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Irene Daines, Taberville; and
19 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and four great-great
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years in
1978, and one son, Lewis.
Jeff lived in Vista, Mo., and was a farmer until 1948, when he moved
to California for a short while. He returned to Henry County where he
spent the rest of his life. He was a carpenter and businessman for
over 25 years. He lived in Urich before moving to Clinton in 1976.
All of his grandchildren were very special to him. He loved life and
enjoyed living until the very end. He will be sadly missed by all who
knew and loved him.
Services were held at the Vansant Mills Funeral Home in Clinton on
Feb. 18. Burial was in the Urich Cemetery.
LOGAN, Buena Violet Heath

Miller, Mo. - Buena Violet Logan, 96, of Miller, died at 3:35 a.m.
Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Cox Medical Center at Monett, Mo.
She was born Oct. 11, 1907, in Taberville, Mo., to Fred and Agnes
(Goldsmith) Heath.
She married Bruce Logan in Taberville. He preceded her in death Jan.
31, 1979.
Mrs. Logan was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Milford Extension Club and Maple Grove
Restoration Church of Jesus Christ at Maple Grove, Mo.
Survivors include six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three
step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers;
two sisters; one son; Bryson Logan; and three infant children.
Services will be 1 p.m. today at Maple Grove Restoration Church of
Jesus Christ at Maple Grove with Elder Steve Doubledee officiating.
Burial will be in Taberville Cemetery, north of El Dorado Springs, Mo.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Daniel Funeral Home of
Lamar.
LOGAN, Cleave Paterson
Cleave Paterson Logan -
Osceola and community were shocked to hear that Cleave Logan, a former
citizen of Osceola, had passed away at his home in Blue Earth, Minn.
Cleave Paterson Logan, only son of Paterson and Jennie Logan was born
at Leesville, Henry County, October 19, 1885. When a small boy of
about 4 years, he moved with his parents to Quincy and later to
Osceola where he received his education and grew to manhood. After
finishing high school, he entered the Sedalia Business College where
he finished that course.
He was married to Vivian Shaver at Osceola, June 24, 1914. To this
union were born two daughters; Patricia Jane, now 11 years of age and
Marjorie, 9 years of age.
He was initiated into the Apprenticeship of the A.F. & A.M. March 5,
1917, passed April 13, 1917 and was raised to the degree of a Master
Mason in St. Clair Lodge No. 273 May 23, 1917, later passing through
all its chairs.
For several years he was a partner with Chris Anderson in the Osage
Mercantile Co. in Osceola, which was dissolved in 1924. In the fall of
that same year he went to Glasgow, Mont.where he was employed by his
brother-in-law, John Shaver, for 18 months after which he went to Blue
Earth, Minn. where he was placed in charge of the Frank Jones Golden
Rule store. Later this concern was taken over by the Penny store and
in the capacity of manager he remained until his death.
About Christmas last, he was stricken with the "flu" which weakened
him very much, but he later returned to his work in which he
continued, but the disease had weakened him too much to stand the
strain and some two weeks previous to his death he took to his bed and
never rallied, passing away Sunday, April 4th at three o'clock in the
afternoon. His body arrived in Osceola Tuesday and was taken to the
home of his uncle, Hugh Logan, where funeral services were held at 2
p.m. of the same day.
The music was provide by a quartet composed of George Davies, Homer
Tucker, J.W. Baer and Rev. L.J. Merritt. The address was delivered by
H.E.Carpenter, pastor of the Calhoun Christian Church after which the
body was laid to rest in the Osceola cemetery.
Those acting as pallbearers were Clay Groff, Jack Groff, Irvin
Bennett, George Stump, Cliff Brown and Luther David Logan.
Besides his family mentioned above, he leaves as immediate relatives
his mother, the only survivor of his fathers family and large number
of lesser relatives and friends who deeply mourn his loss.
The rites at the grave were conducted by St. Clair Lodge of which he
always remained a member.
LOLLAR, Leona Bell Strohmeyer

Leona Bell Lollar was bonr Jan. 12, 1927 in Kansas City, to Ernest and
Lula Snow Strohmeyer. She passed away Oct. 18, 2007, at Golden Valley
Memroial Hospital in Clinton.
Leona's early life was spent in the Kansas City area. She graduated
from Central High School. In 1943 she was united in marriage to
Russell A. Lollar in Olathe, Kan. To this union three sons were born.
Leona raised her three sons, foster son and was a Cub Scout Den
Mother. She was a loving and caring wife and mother. Leona recently
reconfirmed her faith at the Kidd's Chapel Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, on Jan. 21, 1999;
two sons, Thomas Arthur Lollar in 1970 and Russell Leon Lollar in
1972; two brothers, Ernest Strohmeyer and Johnny Strohmeyer.
Leona is survived by her son, Dan R. Lollar, Osceola; foster son, Jim
Smith, Kansas City; one brother, Steven Strohmeyer, Peculiar; two
grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Service were held Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel
with Larry Wheeler.
Musical selections were "Holes In The Floor Of Heaven" and "Amazing
Grace".
Interment was in the Benton Green Cemetery under the direction of
Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

passed away Oct. 18, 2007. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sat., Oct.
20 at Sheldon- Goodrich Chapel, Osceola. Burial in Benton Green
Cemetery near Roscoe, Mo. The family will receive friends from 2-3
p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Karen Sue London, 56, Weaubleau, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006 at Cox
South Hospital in Springfield. She was born Feb. 7, 1950 to Dale and
Norma Little O'Hara at Moran, Kan. She grew up in Olathe, Kan. and
moved to the Weaubleau area in 1985.
Two sisters, Janet Louise O'Hara and LaNita Nelson preceded her in
death.
She is survived by her husband, Jack London, Weaubleau; two daughters,
Karmin London, Weaubleau and Tasha Kneller, Ottawa, Kan.; her parents,
Dale and Norma O'Hara, Ottawa, Kan.; three grandchildren, Kyra and
Riki Sue, Weaubleau nd Danielle, Bedford, Ky., and a brother, Larry D.
O'Hara, Topeka, Kan. Graveside services were Tuesday, Oct. 10, in the
Crutsinger Cemetery, southeast of Weaubleau, with Brother Bill Wood
officiating.

Chesley Leroy Loney, 61, Clinton, died Monday, November 12, 2001. He
was born May 18, 1940 in Appleton City, son of Chesley and Beatrice
Loney. His parents and two brothers, William and Robert Loney,
preceded him in death.

Three Area Residents Are Killed At Denver -
Double funeral services were held at the Osceola First Baptist Church
Sunday afternoon, August 22, 1965, at two o’clock for Mrs. Jerry Long,
27, and her five-month old son, Jon David Long, who were killed
Thursday, August 19, in a two-car smash-up near the northern outskirts
of Denver, Colo., that also claimed the life of Mrs. Jesse Long, 82,
of Lowry City, Mo.
Rev. Merlin Shively officiated at the services and interment was made
in Osceola cemetery under the direction of Goodrich Funeral Home.
James David Sunderwirth, Lowry Belisle, Jackson Kiefer and Randy
Sheldon, accompanied by Mrs. John Belisle sang, “Beyond The Sunset”,
“Will The Circle Be Unbroken”, and “In Times Like These”.
Pallbearers were Don Kelley, Lee’s Summit, Bob Neuenschwander,
Deepwater, Leslie Gibbens, Bob Fenwick, Bill Harris and Jackie
Redinger.
Mrs. Long, the former Miss Betty Rae Sink, daughter of Ted and LaVerne
Sink, Osceola, was born Jan. 30, 1938, at Collins. She professed her
faith in Christ May 6, 1948, and became a member of the Vista Baptist
church, later transferred her membership to the Osceola Baptist
Church, where it has remained.
She attended elementary school in the Vista school and was graduated
from Osceola high school in 1955. She received a BS degree from
Central Missouri State college, Warrensburg, in 1958. She taught
approximately two and one half terms in the Raytown school system.
Betty Rae was married to Robert Alan Disney on March 1960. A daughter,
Beth Rene, was born to the couple. Mr. Disney was killed in an
automobile accident Nov. 25, 1962.
On Feb. 15, 1964, she was married to Jerry Lee Long, who was then a
member of the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Lincoln, Nebr.,
where they made their home until August 21, 1964.
The couple then moved to Lee’s Summit. After moving there their son,
Jon David, was born March 10, 1965.
Survivors are her husband, Jerry, and one daughter, Beth Rene Disney,
of the home; two stepsons, Dannie John and Michael Lee Long of Denver,
Colo.; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Sink, Osceola; four sisters,
Lindal Gibbens of Lowry City, Teddy Kay, Patricia Gay and Karla Kim of
Osceola and Wilma Dull of Quincy, who was reared in the home as a
member of the family.
The accident occurred when the car driven by Stephen Whiles, 17, of
St. Aurora, Colo., jumped the median strop on E. 46th Ave., freeway on
the outskirts of Denver and was struck broadside by the Jerry Long
car.
Mrs. Long and infant son were riding in the front seat with her
husband, Jerry, at the wheel. The Long vehicle collided with the
Whiles’ car broadside throwing Mrs. Long and Jon into the dashboard
and windshield.
Little Jon was dead at the scene of head injuries. Mrs. Long, who
suffered multiple head and chest injuries, died three hours later
Thursday evening, August 19, at 6:15 at Denver General Hospital.
Mr. Long was treated for cuts and released.
Other passengers were Mr. Long’s grandmother, Mrs. Jessie Long, 81, of
Lowry City, and Beth Disney. They were riding in the back seat. Mrs.
Long suffered head and leg injuries and died Monday morning, August
23. Beth suffered cuts and bruises and was later released.
The driver of the other car, Mr. Whiles, was taken to Denver General
Hospital and later transferred to Fitzsimons General Hospital, where
he was reported in serious condition with a back injury. He told
police his car hit a pool of water or was struck by a car jut before
the accident. Speed limit at the point of impact was 60 miles per
hours the investigating officer reported.
The Long family was returning from Denver where Jerry Long had taken
his two sons by a former marriage to their mother after they had spent
the summer in the Jerry Long home.
Funeral services for Jessie L. Long, 81, Lowry City, will be held in
Kidd Chapel church Thursday afternoon, Aug. 26, with the Rev. Joe Wix
officiating.
Burial will be made in Kidd Chapel cemetery under the direction of the
Goodrich Funeral Home.
Immediate survivors are four sons, Harry (Short) Long, Lowry City,
Russell Long, Butler, Elton Long, Appleton City, and Howard Long,
Brighton, Calif.

Mrs. Cora L. DeLong -
Mrs. Cora L. DeLong died late Saturday night at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Alma Breshears, 1577 Moss street, following an illness
of seven years.
Mrs. DeLong was born Nov. 20, 1868, in Scott, West Virginia. At the
age of 17 she went to Missouri and was married in that state to Steve
DeLong. Mr. DeLong died 10 years ago in California. Mrs. DeLong had
lived in Oregon 35 years, most of the time at Cove, and the past seven
years at Eugene. She was a member of the Rebekah lodge in Cove.
Surviving are the one daughter, Mrs. Alma Breshears; three
grandchildren; four brothers, Lafe, John and Clarence Richard of Cove,
and Walter Richard of LaGrande; one sister, Mrs. W. N. Neville, of
Long Beach, Cal.
The body is being sent by Poole chapel to LaGrande. Services and
burial will be held at Summerville.

County Pioneer Taken by Death -
Elizah B. Long, 95, retired Summerville farmer, died in La Grande
Saturday after 55 years in Union county.
He was born in Danville, Ind., on October 27, 1847, and came to Union
county in 1887, locating near the Iowa schoolhouse. He went to work
for the Summerville Cemetery association in 1901 as sexton, holding
this poseton(sic) for 25 years. He was a member of the Baptist church
since 1867.
Funeral services were held in Summerville chapel at 2:30 p.m. Monday
and burial followed in the Summerville cemetery beside his wife who
died several years ago.
Survivors are two nieces, Mrs. Bertha Russell of Coffeeville, Kansas,
and Mrs. Alma Breashers of Eugene.
LONG, Elizabeth Ann Dutcher

Elizabeth Ann Long was born Oct. 26, 1926, in Kansas City, to Wivel
Edgar and Eva Nadine Bennett Dutcher. She passed away Nov. 8, 2006, at
Heritage Park Care Center in Rolla.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Long,
Knoxville, Tenn.; one brother, three sisters and a son-in-law, Bill
Scott, Cuba, Mo.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry Bayless and his wife, Sandy,
Osceola and James and his wife, Jennie Ruth, of Kansas City; her
daughter, Terry Scott, Cuba, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 18 great
grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; other relatives and
friends.
Services for Elizabeth were Friday, Nov. 10, at the Bible Baptist
Church, Cuba, Mo., with Pastor Jack Shepard and Reverend Frankie
Dutcher officiating.
Interment was Sunday, Nov. 12, at the Benton Green Cemetery under the
direction of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.
LONG, Harry Lee

Harry L. "Short" Long, 89, Lowry City, died Saturday, December 2,
1995, at the Sac Osage Hospital in Osceola. Mr. Long was born in
Beggs, Oklahoma. He was a long time Lowry City area resident and
retired farmer. He is survived by his wife, Ora Mae of the home; two
sons, Jerry Long of Lowry City and Jim Long of Raymore; two brothers,
Elton Long of Appleton City, and Russell Long of Butler; seven
grandsons, one great-grandson. Funeral services will be Tuesday,
December 5, at 1 p.m. at the Sheldon Goodrich Chapel in Osceola.
Burial will be in the Kidds Chapel Cemetery near Lowry City.

Howard H. Long Dies -
Howard H. Long, 76, Route 4, El Dorado Springs, died Friday morning at
Cedar County Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient since
April 18.
He was born September 4, 1894, at Lahoma, Okla., the son of James and
Minnie Long. His first wife, Mrs. June Long, died in 1965. He later
married Vinnie Reed, who survives.
He leaves three daughters, Mrs. Betty Turk, Canarillo, Calif., Mrs.
Doris McSpadden, St. Louis, Mrs. Celda Horn, Greensboro, N.C.; one
step-daughter, Mrs. Nell Floyd, Webb City; one step-son, Ellie Krumm,
Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Malaby, Chickasha, Okla.,
and Mrs. Edna Mattingly, Aurora; eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Charles Kincaid at 10:30
Monday at the First Christian church. Burial was in the national
cemetery at Springfield.
LONG, Matthew Taylor

After an illness of a few weeks Mr. Matt Long, of near Johnson City,
passed away on January 10th; he also was tenderly laid in the Harmony
cemetery, the church being filled with friends and neighbors, showing
the high esteem in which he was regarded in this community. Rev. Kirk
of Appleton City conducted the funeral.
LONG, Maude E. Ledbetter

Maude E. Ledbetter Long was born October 3, 1910, the fourth of five
girls born to Olive Boots and Robert McHenry Sam Ledbetter.
The fourth girl was Maude who married Harry Short Long on Dec. 9,
1932, and leaves two sons, Jerry and his wife Beverly of Lowry City
and Jimmy and his wife Jenny of Raymore. She is also survived by a
sister Julia, who lives in Osceola. For 46 years, Maude was a school
teacher in several rural schools of St. Clair and Bates counties, also
teaching fourth grade at Appleton City and finally retiring from
Hickman Mills schools in 1974 and then moved to the family farm for a
few years.
Maude moved to Osceola on St. Pat's Day, 1979. Maude suffered a stroke
on July 3 while doing what she loved, weeding one of her flowr beds.
She passed away on July 10, 2006, at St. Josephs Hospital in Kansas
City.
Maude was preceded in death by her three sisters, Sylvia Hunt, Edna
Fenwick and Lelia Teague, a baby brother and a grandson, Jon David
Long.
Maude is survived by her two sons, Jimmy and his wife Jenny and Jerry
and his wife Beverly; grandchildren, Craig, Coby and his wife
Charlotte, Shawn and his wife Alsion, Danny and his wife Roslyn, Mike
and Jill, Terery, Tim and his wife Cindy; great grandchildren Carly,
Samuel, Chloe, Adam, Melissa, Hannah, Jesse, John, Emily, Trent, Adam
and Melissa.
Services were Friday, July 14 at Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Chapel
officiated by Rev. Bob Fenwick.
Casketbearers were Danny Long, Craig Long, Shawn Long, Mike Long, Coby
Long, TIm Long and Terry Long.
Interment was in Harmony Cemetery in Appleton City. Arrangements were
made by Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

VAN E. LONG IS CALLED BY DEATH -
The funeral services for Van E. Long, who passed away Sunday morning
at one o'clock, will be held from the Summerville chapel tomorrow
afternoon at two o'clock under the direction of Reynolds and Zimmerman
funeral service parlors of La Grande.
Mr. Long was a successful rancher of Summerville for a number of years
after which he moved to Imbler, where he has ben(sic) connected with
the bank for some time. He was 49 years, 5 months and 16 days old at
the time of his death.
He leaves to mourn his demise, his wife, Mrs. Etta Standley Long,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Standley, old pioneers of the valley,
his father and mother, Mrs. E. B. Long, besides a large circle of
friends. Pneumonia was the cause of his death.
LONG, Virginia May Graham

Virginia May Graham Long was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
E.W. Graham and was born near Vista, September 19, 1902, and passed to
her eternal rest April 26, 1936, at her home near Wheatland, being
thirty three years, seven months, and six days of age. She grew to
womanhood in this community where she spent the greater part of her
life. Being of a gentle, quiet disposition, she made many friends who
grieve at her passing away. She was married to Forest Smith, November
6, 1921 at Humansville. To this union one daughter, Clara Elizabeth
was born. At the age of fifteen years Virginia was converted in a
revival meeting held at Vista and later united with the Christian
church at Humansville and has ever lived a faithful Christian life.
She was united in marriage to Joe Long at Paola, Kansas, Dec. 9, 1929.
To this union three sons were born. She is survived by her husband,
Joe Long, one daughter, Clara Elizabeth and three sons, Harold Eugene,
Leonard and Carl Wesley; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Graham; six
sisters, Mrs. Minnie Glazebrook and Mrs. Ethel Jessee of Kansas City;
Mrs. W.S. Graham of Clinton; Mrs. N.C. Hill of San Antonio, Texas;
Mrs. Cecil Feaster of South Bend, Ind.; Mrs. Harold Andrew of Cedar
Rapids, Iowa; two brothers, Frank Graham of Denver, Colo.; and Homer
Graham of Vista and a number of other relatives. One brother Edgar and
one sister Florence, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held from the Baptist church at Vista, Tuesday,
April 28, at two o'clock, conducted by the Rev. D.D. Tally. A large
crowd gathered to pay thei last tribute of respect and many were the
beautiful floral offerings. Burial was in the Macedonia cemetery,
under the direction of the Lucky funeral home of Wheatland. -
A precious one from us has gone. -
A voice we loved is stilled. -
A place is vacant in our hearts -
Which never can be filled.

William Long Dead.
William Long, a well known resident of this city died at the hospital
in La Grande Thursday night, November 19, 1908; at the age of 40
years. Death resulted from typhoid fever, with which deceased had been
suffering for several weeks. The remains will be shipped from La
Grande to Summerville tomorrow morning and the funeral services will
be held in the Summerville Methodist church at 11 a.m. followed by the
interment in the Summerville cemetery, where other members of the
family rest.
William Long was well known in Northern Union county and has for the
past several years operated a sawmill near this city. He wa an
energetic, upright and moral citizen who was held in high esteem by
all who knew him, and besides his wife, and daughter, Mrs. Wm.
Breshears, he leaves a host of friends to mourn his loss. Another
daughter preceded him to the grave only a few weeks ago and the sorrow
of her death had much to do with bringing on the last and fatal
disease. He was a member of Rock Wall Camp No. 700 W.O.W. and Elgin
Aerie No. 389 F.O.E. and while all funeral arrangements were not made
at the time we go to press these orders will no doubt have charge of
the services. He held a $1000 insurance policy in the Woodmen.

Passed Away at 10 O'clock Last Evening at Hospital.
William Long, who for the past several weeks has been in the hospital
with typhoid fever, passed away last evening at 10 o'clock. Mr. Long
lost a daughter with the same disease quite recently, and came here
from Elgin to be treated. He leaves a wife and several children. He is
a son of Mr. and Mrs. E.B. Long of Summerville. The family has resided
in the valley for many years.
The funeral will be held tomorrow and interment will follow in the
Summerville cemetery.

Mary L. Looney, 60, Collins, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at her
home. She was an upholsterer for Bass tracker of Clinton for 10 years.
Funeral services will be Monday at Hathaway-Peterman Funeral Home
Chapel, Wheatland. Burial will follow in Robinson Cemetery, near
Collins.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Looney of the home; two sons,
Scott Looney of Weaubleau and Lee Green of Austin, Texas; two
daughters, Cassondra Hartman of Weaubleau and Donna Looney of St.
Joseph; four brothers, three sisters and four grandchildren.

LOVEWELL, Harvey
Harvey Lovewell was born to Henry Albert Lovewell and Lizzie Harvey
Lovewell on March 23, 1921 in Birdsong, Missouri, and passed away on
October 12, 2009 in Big Spring Care Center in Humansville, Missouri,
after a brief illness. Harvey had twelve siblings. He attended
Greenwood School, then after saying he was older than his actual age,
joined the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) Camp at Schell Knob,
Missouri.
Harvey enlisted in the Army in 1942, married Opal Mae Tandy on
November 22, 1942, and returned to Fort Leonard Wood on the same day.
He was soon transferred to California, where Opal joined him until he
was sent overseas. He served overseas in the Philippine Islands for 27
months and 2 weeks during World War II. He was promoted and drove for
officers until he went AWOL when received word that his son had been
born. He was demoted, but continued serving in the Philippines until
his discharge.
Harvey was a mechanic, working on cars, Ford tractors, small engines,
and drove school buses and wreckers until his retirement. He enjoyed
hunting and fishing with his grandchildren. He had spent his entire
life in St. Clair County, living only 12 miles from where he was born.
He was a founding and lifetime member of VFW Post 4197 in Osceola and
was also one of the founding members of the local Alcoholics Anonymous
group in which he was very influential in many people’s lives.
Harvey is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ruth Ann Lovewell;
4 brothers, William (Bill) Lovewell, Freddie Lovewell, Albert
Lovewell, and Oliver Lovewell and two sisters, Blanche and Florence
Lovewell.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Opal Mae Tandy
Lovewell; one son, Gene Lovewell and wife Jeanie; one daughter Janice
Wagner, all of Osceola; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 1
great-great granddaughter, many nieces, nephews and friends.
LOWRY, Dorothy Mae Wheeler Baumgarden

Dorothy Mae Wheeler Baumgarden Lowry was born March 23, 1915 in
Osceola, to Millious and Ella Wisner Wheeler. She died Saturday,
December 14, 2002 at Golden Valley Hospital in Clinton.
On November 23, 1932, she married Harvey Francis Baumgarden. On May
30, 1976, she married
Thomas M. Lowry.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harvey Baumgarden, and
son, Earl Baumgarden, her parents, six brothers, two sisters, one
son-in-law, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
She is survived by her daughter LaVerne; son Cecil and
daughter-in-law, Minnie Estes; nine grandchildren,
22 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, friends and
neighbors.
She was a member of the Cove Creek Christian Church.
She had been a resident of Westwood Nursing Home for the past few
years and entered Golden Valley Hospital on December 4. She was a
nurse at the old General Hospital, moving to Golden Valley Hospital
where she retired. After retirement she did in-home care for the
elderly until her health failed.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 18, at the
Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel. Burial will be in Kings Prairie Cemetery.

Mrs. Adda A. Loyd, 89, of a nursing home in Lowry City, formerly of
Shawnee, Ks., died January 22, 1993 at a hospital in Osceola. The body
was donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Mrs. Loyd was born in Shawnee and moved to Lowry City six years ago.
She worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture before she retired.
She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star,
a member of Keelah Court of the Ladies Oriental Shrine and past worthy
commander of the Ruth Conclave of the Order of True Kindred.
Survivors include a son, Chester Hazen, Independence; three grandsons;
and three great-grandsons.

Mary Frances Harper Loyd - Mary Frances was born on Sept. 20, 1929 in
Leeds to Ira and Bertha Jones. Mary went to be with her Lord on Dec.
6, 2006, while in her home under the care of her husband, Max Loyd,
hospice and family.
She graduated from Osceola Public High School. Mary was a long time
resident of Osceola while married to Leroy Harper and their four
children, Cheryl, Sandy, Robbie and Theron. After 30 years of marriage
they parted ways and on Dec. 31, 1989 Mary married her life partner,
Maxell Loyd, who she cherished. In her later years, she enjoyed her
travels to Germany, Florida and the western United States.
Mary was preceded in death by her mother and father, Bertha and Ira
Jones; one grandson, Chrles David Hutsler; one brother, Leonard Jones
and two sisters, Dorothy Andrea and Camilla Axtell.
Mary is survived by her husband, Max Loyd, three daughters and their
husbands, Cheryl Bailey and her husband, Karl, Sandy Hutsler and her
husband, Larry, Robbie Barnes and her husband, Cal and their son,
Theron Harper and his wife, Helen. Nine grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, six brothers
and the father of her children, Leroy Harper.
Services for Mary were Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Sheldon-Goodrich
Chapel with Reverend James Eager officiating.
Musical selections were "Thank You", "How Great Thou Art" and "In The
Garden", with Tony Bulock, soloist and Gail Ingle, accompanist.
Casketbearers were Jon Hutsler, Andrew Kiefer, Cal Barnes, Jerry
Jones, Kelly Barnes, Larry Hutsler, Karl Bailey and Theron Harper.
Interment was in the Osceola Cemetery under the direction of
Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

will be Thursday, August 25, at 1:30 p.m. in the Sheldon-Goodrich
Chapel, Osceola. Burial will be in Osceola Cemetery.

Richard Ray Lubbers, 66, of Independence, (Polk Co.) formerly of
Newport, (Lincoln Co.) died March 19, 2003 at his home. He was born
March 24, 1936 in Okeene, Okla.
He was raised in Wichita, Kansas. He married Beverly Jean Doolittle on
March 17, 1956 in Oak Harbor, Wash.
He began his career in the U.S. Navy as an electronics technician on
the U.S.S. Shangri La. His electronics career included positions with
the phone company and the state forestry department, and he worked on
most of the repeater stations on Oregon's mountain ranges. He and his
wife lived in Newport for 22 years. (Lincoln Co.)
He was active in rabbit husbandry and developed the Evergreen New
Zealand white rabbit bloodline at his family rabbitry and farm, and
was superintendent of the rabbit department for the Lane County Fair.
He provided rabbits for leukemia and other medical research.
He founded the Emerald Empire Rabbit Breeders Association and its
spring rabbit show. He helped pioneer a commercial rabbit meat line.
He was involved with 4-H leadership, Cub Scouts, and his church.
Mid-life, he moved to Buena Vista to operate a farm and independent
trucking business. Prior to retirement, he helped operate a tax
business with his wife, and operated several laundromats, and a
computer business. After retirement, he enjoyed fishing on the Alsea
River.
Survivors include his mother, Gladys Lubbers of Osceola, Mo.; his wife
of 47 years, Beverly Lubbers; three sons, Michael Lubbers of
California, Scot Lubbers and family of Brush Prairie, Wash., and
Daniel Lubbers and family of Salem; a daughter, Laurie Vande Walle and
family of Salem; a sister, Sue Bounds of Osceola, (St. Clair Co.) Mo.;
a brother, Keith Lubbers of Portland; an uncle, Melvin Lubbers of
Osceola, Mo.; six grandchildren; and many extended family members.
A memorial service was held March 24 at Buena Vista Community Church,
followed by interment at Hilltop Cemetery in Independence. Memorial
contributions may be made toward the purchase of a new sound system at
Buena Vista Community Church. Farnstrom Mortuary of Independence
handled the arrangements.

Son-In-Law -
Minnie E. Reese and her son, Clair Reese of Overland Park, Kansas,
attended funeral services October 5, for John K. Lucas, 52, son-in-law
of Mrs. Reese.
Interment was made in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, where the
family had recently retired from long service in government in
Washington, D.C.
Mr. Lucas had completed tours of duty with the CIA in Okinawa and
Saigon.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, and two sons, Stephen and Michael.
Mrs. Reese will remain indefinitely with her daughter.
Mr. Lucas died Saturday, September 30, following a long illness.
LUSK, Nora Whitley

Rites for Nora Lusk -
Nora Whitley Lusk, daughter of William and Sarah Whitley, was born in
St. Clair County, north of Tiffin, April 30, 1871, and passed away at
the Cedar county memorial hospital April 1, 1966.
She joined the Pape Christian church in 1893, where she remained a
faithful member.
On July 26, 1896, she was united in marriage to Joseph Lusk. One son
who was born to them, died in infancy.
Some years ago she and her husband moved from their farm home to El
Dorado Springs. Mr. Lusk died in 1955.
Surviving Mrs. Lusk are a sister-in-law, Flora Whitley; three nieces,
Doris Mogan, Maude Brackenridge, Edith Kirkpatrick, also other
relatives, many friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held at the First Christian church Sunday, April
3, at 2 p.m., the Rev. Maurice Pond officiating. Interment in El
Dorado Springs cemetery, under direction of Gwinn-Carothers.

Henry Lutes Buried at Roscoe -
Funeral services were held in the Goodrich Chapel Thursday afternoon,
January 12, 1961, for Henry William Lutes of Raymondville, who died
January 9 in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield from injuries suffered
in a motor scooter accident near his home January 7. He had been
transferred from Texas County Memorial hospital in Houston only a few
hours before his death.
Rev. Cecil Haines, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated at
the services. Burial was made in the Roscoe Cemetery under the
direction of the Goodrich Funeral Home.
Mr. Lutes, son of Dolphus and Betty Lutes, was born October 11, 1887,
near Roscoe.
Immediate survivors include his invalid wife, Ada, of the home at
Raymondsville, a son, Willis, of Highland, Kans., a daughter, Mrs.
A.L. Francis of Osceola, three grandchildren, Wilma Jean, Leroy and
Richard Lutes and two sisters, Maude Schriner of Roscoe and Mary Bruce
of Moundville, nieces, nephews, and many other relatives. --

Obituary of Jesse F. Lutes -
Jesse Franklin Lutes, son of Dolphus and Lucretia Lutes, was born
south of Roscoe, Missouri, June 28, 1890, and passed away April 9,
1960, at the age of 69 years, 9 months, and 12 days. He grew to
manhood in the Roscoe vicinity and was united in marriage on September
23, 1911 to Maggie Frances Morlan. To this union were born five
children, two sons dying in infancy.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, two sons, and one
granddaughter.
He was widely known and has made many friends throughout the years. He
was a truck driver from 1926 to the early 1940’s. He moved with his
wife to Kansas City in 1945 where he was employed at a defense plant
for a short time, going from there to the Sunshine Biscuit Company
where he worked until June 1955, when he retired. In that same year he
moved to 511 South Kirkpatrick, El Dorado Springs, where he was
residing at the time of his death.
He suffered a heart attack on March 19, 1960 and was taken to Nevada
hospital. He seemed to make a fast recovery and came home on March 24.
He did not regain his strength and was taken back to Nevada Hospital
on April 2. He was transferred to the Osteopathic Hospital in Kansas
City, where death occurred April 9 at 1:35 a.m.
Besides his wife, of the home, he leaves two sons, Emmet F. Lutes of
Kansas City, and Ray Lutes of Osceola, Mo., Route 3; one daughter,
Ruthe Bradley of El Dorado Springs, Mo., Route 3; five grandchildren;
three step-grandchildren; five great step-grandchildren; one brother,
Henry Lutes of Raymondville, Mo.; two sisters, Mary Bruce of
Moundville, Mo., and Maude Schriner of Osceola, Mo., Route 3; a number
of nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Lutes were held at 2 o’clock Tuesday at the
Roscoe Christian church, the Rev. Glenn Hinkle officiating. Interment
in El Dorado Springs Cemetery, under direction of Gwinn-Carothers.

Carolyn Luther, 67, of Osceola, died Sunday, July 2, at her daughter
and son-in-law's Kansas City home where she lost her spirited battle
with cancer. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 8, at 1

Carolyn was born to Oliver and Arvilla Luther on June 22, 1939, in
Independence. After graduating in 1957 from William Chrisman High
School, Carolyn began work at KMBZ Radio in Kansas City. Continuing
her love of radio and sports, she moved to Osceola where she went to
work for a radio station in Bolivaar. While there, Carolyn provided
play-by-play announcing for many local schools.
In November 1971, Carolyn gave birth to her own little sports
side-kick, Lyndy. Following this most important event, Carolyn decided
to attend Southwest Baptist College, Bolivar, where she received her
teaching degree in 1980. During the next 25 years of teaching in
Osceola, Carolyn grew as the official team spirit leader for not only
the school and Lyndy, but the community. She dedicated her time
throughout the years as Osceola's cheerleading sponsor, Osceola
Invitational Basketball Tournament spirit organizer and announcer,
Grace United Methodist Church member and Osceola Community Pool
Manager. Carolyn loved the time she spent taking pictures and
recording memories for many OHS Students.
In addition to her love of Osceola and OHS, she still found time to be
an avid Kansas City Sports fan and supporter. Her love began with the
Kansas City A's bseball team and continued to the very end with her
love of the Chiefs and Royals. Recently, adding a new sports team to
support, the Arkansas Razorbacks, thanks to her son-in-law, Jerry.
Carolyn will be remembered as a devoted and beloved friend, school and
community supporter, teacher, sports fan and most importantly, a Mom.
Survivors include Lyndy and Jerry Elmore, daughter and son-in-law of
Kansas City, (and her granddog, Fred); Skeeter and Phyllis Luther,
brother and sister-in-law, Bates City; and Elizabeth Luther, niece and
her children, Blue Springs.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Alexander and Flora
Luther, and her parents, Oliver and Arvilla Luther.

LYKE, Opal Elnora Hannah

Opal Elnora Lyke was born Sept. 25, 1015 near Coon Creek in the Rainey
area and grew up in the Stringtown area northeast of Osceola to Calvin
and Grace [Mossman] Hannah. She passed away at her home on Dec. 14,
2008.
Opal attended grade school at Oak Grove and graduated from Osceola
High School in 1935. Opal met Clarence Lyke on a blind date set up by
her co-workers at the Bridgeview Restaurant. On June 19, 1937, they
were united in marriage in Buffalo, Missouri.
Opal and Clarence started the Osceola Greenhouse and Floral by the
sale of a cow for $100 and a $300 loan. They continued the business
for 63 years. She attended High Hill Baptist Church and transferred
her membership to Osceola Baptist Church in 1952.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Grace Hannah,
husband Clarence Lyke, son, Clarence Lyke, Jr., granddaughter Pauline
Firestone and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Lyke.
She is survived by her daughters, Wanda Firestone and Jean Lyke both
of Osceola, son Gary Lyke, Texas City, Texas, granddaughter Holly
Ho-Gland and husband John, San Antonio, Texas.
Services were held Friday, Dec. 19 at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel with
Rev. Scott Hill officiating.
Casketbearers were Chuck Fulton, George Sanders, Danny Morris, Chris
Hannah, Duel Hannah and Rick Reed.
Interment was in the Pleasant Mound Cemetery.

James Robert Lynn, 55, Cross Timbers, was born in Clinton to John B.
and Alice Marie (Elliott) Lynn on April 23, 1946, and died Thursday,
May 3, 2001, at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar.
He was raised in Osceola. He had been a common laborer. After becoming
disabled, he moved to his brother's farm where he remained until his
death.
He is survived by three brothers, Grover Lynn of Cross Timbers, Gary
Lynn of Miller and Johnny Lynn of Hartville; two sisters, Shirley
Gardner of Deepwater and Elaine Storm of Carney; three sons, Bobby,
Jimmy and Steven; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and
friends. Funeral services were Monday, May 7, 10 a.m., at Sheldon-goodrich Chapel.
Burial was in Osceola Cemetery.

LYNN, Mable Clair Gardner
Obituary. - Mable Clair Gardner was born July 31, 1896 in
Evergreen, Colorado, one of 10 children born to Thomas and Nancy Jane
Hill Gardner. She passed away Friday, October 31, 1980 at the Golden
Valley Memorial Hospital inClinton, Missouri, at the age of 84 years
and 3 months.
She lived in Evergreen until she was a young lady of 14. At that time,
she moved with her parents to
Wisdom, Missouri.
At the age of 16 she was united in marriage to John Henry Lynn. This
union occurred June 1, 1913 at her
home and was performed by Rev. George Smith. To this union were born
10 children. John preceded her in
death in April of 1954. During their life together they spent most of
their time in Colorado and Missouri.
Mable was a most beloved wife and mother. She was the bond that held
the family together. She has given her family the courage and strength
to go on with their lives. She has always thought of others before
herself. Her packages to the Children's Mercy Hospital will be greatly
missed after this year. Even with her illness, she had to finish the
box for the children this year. She led a good Christian life and will
by missed by her family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, four sisters
and four children: Pauline Cristie, twin of
Paul Henry, George Joseph, Mable Lorrain and John Richard.
She is survived by five daughters: Nancy Myrtle Pankey of Satanta,
Kans; Mildred Melissa McVay of Clinton; Gertrude May Torley of
Savannah, Ga.; Rose Lee Parsons of Lee's Summit; one son, Paul Henry
Lynn of Osceola; one sister, Edith Smith of Osceola; 33 grandchildren
and other relatives and friends. Burial was in the Osceola Cemetery.
LYSINGER, Betty Genevieve Holland

Betty Genevieve Lysinger was born July 30, 1929, near Lowry City, to
George Clifford and Eva Eliza Jones Holland. She died at her home
early Monday morning, January 6, 1997, at the age of 67 years, five
months and seven days.
Genevieve was a lifelong resident of the Lowry City community,
attending rural Short and Park Grove schools and graduated in 1946 as
class valedictorian from Lowry City High School at the age of 16. She
was employed by York's Grocery and Hadley's Dime Store in Lowry City
during her early years, later working at Hart's Cafe and as a
medical/X-ray transcriptionist at Wetzel Hospital and Golden Valley
Memorial Hospital in Clinton.
On July 15, 1948, Genevieve was united in marriage to John Franklin
Lysinger at her grandparent's home near Vista. To this union four
sons, John F. Jr., Billy Lee, Thomas Ray, George Lauren and one
daughter, Betty Ann, were born.
Genevieve and Jack always enjoyed raising a large garden to share with
family, friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and
machine quilting until her failing eyesight no longer permitted. The
pride and joy though of Genevieve's life were her 12 grandchildren and
as a result became well known as simply Granny to many people.
She is preceded in death by her parents; infant grandson, Thomas Ray
Lysinger II, and one sister, Doris
Elizabeth Smith. Genevieve leaves her husband, Jack, of the home; her
five children and their families,
John P. Jr. and Linda Lou Lysinger of Lowry City, their daughters,
Julie and husband, Josh Russell of
Montrose, Janet and Jill of Lowry City, Bill and Malinda Lysinger and
his children, Jimmy and Jackie,
all of Lowry City, Betty Hildebrand of Lowry City, and her children,
Jeremy of Germany and Nancy of Lowry City, Tom and Cindy Lysinger and
their children, Joey and Kristi of Holden, George and Linda Ann
Lysinger and their sons, Johnny, Geoffrey and Andy of Lowry City; two
brothers-in-law, James G. Lysinger of Lowry City and William G. Smith
of Independence; as well as a host of family and friends.
Funeral services were Friday, January 10, at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel.
Burial was in Lowry City Cemetery.

Marjorie L. Lytton, 63, Kansas City, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at
her home. She was a credit accountant. Funeral services will be
Saturday, July 27, at 1 p.m. at Sheldon Goodrich Chapel, Osceola.
Burial will be in Bear Creek Cemetery near Osceola.
