passed away April 11, 2006, at her home.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Robert
Moore. She is survived y her Husband, Roger Hochstedler; her son,
Wayne Waldmer; her daughter-in-law, Christina; granddaughter,
Angalina; three brothers, Robert B. Moore, Richard G. Moore and
Kenneth B. Moore; many nieces and nephews and friends.
Final disposition was cremation, under the direction of
Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

died Sept. 15, 2006 at Highland Nursing and Rehab Center, Kansas City.
She was proceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Thelma Hodgett,
sister, Mary Ann and brother Dale Eugene.
She is survived by her three sisters, Jessie Dollard of Texas,
Beverley Baker of Oklahoma, and Patsy Payne of Oklahoma, and one
brother, Michael Hodgett of Missouri.
Services will be held at Hackberry Cemetery in WauKomis, Okla.,
officiated by Pastor Stan Jenkins on Sept. 30 at 2 p.m.

Dale Eugene Hodgett, 68, passed away June 19, 2006 at Golden Valley
Hospital in Clinton. Graveside services were Thursday, June 22 at the
Green Lawn Cemetery.
Dale was born April 11, 1938, in Kansas City. He worked in
construction most of his life, and also worked in the oil fields of
Oklahoma. He was a handyman who could repair anything.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Thelma Hodgett;
son, Dale Eugene Hodgett, Jr.; and a sister, Mary Ann Hodgett.
His survivors include his loving companion, Nancy Hodgett, Osceola;
three daughters and their husbands, Debra and Joe Sumner, McCurtain,
Okla., Sharon and Bob Lucas, Lamar and Raylena and Johnny Anderson,
Fort Gibson, Okla.; two stepsons, Larry and Terry Decavele both of
Kansas City; brother, Michael Hodgett, Waynesville; four sisters,
Jessie Dollard, Beverly Baker, Patty Payne and Carolyn Hodgett; seven
grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and
nephews.

Paul is survived by two sons, Ronald Hoffman and wife, Margy, of

grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at the

her home. She was born in Osceola, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a licensed practical nurse. She is survived by her husband,
William, of the home; two sons, John C. Goodwin of Collins and James
Lee Goodwin of Grain Valley; two brothers, Kenneth Ireland of
Humansville and Victor Ireland of Kansas City; one sister, Mary Buford
of Collins; two half-sisters, Frances Thompson of Independence and
Dora Lee Haltom of Harrisonville; four grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 27,
at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel in Osceola. Burial will be in the

James Jackson Holloway was born on June 18, 1924 in Pritchett, Texas,
to Woody Dean and Madge Brown Holloway and passed away on October 18,
2005, in his home.
James Jackson Holloway served in the U.S. Navy during WW II from 1942
to 1945. He served on the Patrol Gunboat U.S.S. Tulsa in the Pacific
Theatre of operations.
James received the Navy/Marine Corps Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Good
Conduct Medal, American Campaign Metal, World War II Victory Medal,
Navy Occupation Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Boatswain’s Mate,
Surface Warfare Medal and Honorable Discharge Pin and Patch known as
the “Ruptured Duck”.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Woody Dean and Madge
Holloway; two brothers, Roy Carl Holloway and Jess Dean Holloway; one
sister, Martha Mitchel; and a nephew, Horace Holloway.
He is survived by his children, Karen J. Holloway of Independence,
William and Gretchen Holloway of Independence, Richard and Lisa
Holloway of Osceola, Billy and Cheryl Barnett of Lowry City, and
Brenda and George Grantham of Grandview; the love of his life and long
time devoted companion, Mary S. Barnett, one brother, Daniel E.
Holloway; and one sister, Sara J. Earp; grandchildren, Dana Holloway,
David Holloway, Amy Schultz, Neva Caravalla, James Holloway, Jason
Holloway, Randy Holloway, Tucker Strader, Nickolas Holloway, Michael
Barnett, Chelsea Barnett, Brandon Grantham, David Grantham and 18
great grandchildren.
Services were Saturday, October 22 in the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel.

Art” and “Amazing Grace”. Interment of his ashes was in Pritchett,

MO. She was born April 23, 1943, in Lodi, California, to Dolen Renfro
and Pauline (Adair) Brown. She is preceded in death by her Mother;
husband Dale Hollowell, a brother Ray Renfro, a sister Dorothy Renfro,
and a daughter Marion Lyons. She is survived by four children; her
father Dolen Renfro; two sisters Anita Davis, and Linda Renfro; two
brothers: David Renfro, and Dolen Renfro, Jr.; as well as

Clyde D. Holmes was born on Feb. 28, 1922 in Heflin, Alabama to Arthur
and Mae [Blackman] Holmes and passed away Dec. 16, 2007 at his
daughters home in Lowry City.
Clyde was a preacher in his earlier years and he always put God and
his family above everything else.
Clyde spent many years as a truck driver before retiring. He enjoyed
fishing, gardening, reading his Bible and listening to preaching.
He was preceded in death by his wife,Annie, in 2003, daughter, Mary
and son, Art; his sisters and his
brothers and his grandson, Joey.
Clyde is survived by one brother, Roy Holmes of Raytown, two sons,
James Holmes, Anniston, Alabama,
Walter Holmes, Camden, his daughters; Dorothy Roberts, Princeton,
Doris Snodgrass, Blue Springs, Kitty Henley, Grain Valley, Rebecca
Moore, Lowry City; 23 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and many
nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services were Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. in Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel
officiated by Rev. Jeff
Ferguson and Rev. Harvey Woods.
Music selections were "Old Rugged Cross" soloist by Amanda Phillips
and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" soloist by Kathy Brown.
Casketbearers were Phillip Henley, Shelby Goodman, Tommy Roberts, Brad
Moore, Jr., Tony Snodgrass and Richard Davis.
Interment was in Lowry City Cemetery with arrangements made by
Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

Mary Ella Holsworth, 61, was born on September 26, 1944 to Iver Orie
and Pearl May Galpin Dahl and passed away on August 2, 2006, in her
home.
Mary worked most of her life as a home maker, a block laying assistant
and a mud mixer. Mary also worked as a daycare assistant, she also
owned and ran a bar as well as a housekeeping business.
Mary was preceded in death by her husbands, Alvin Rubio and Michael
Holsworth, two sons, Larry Wagner and Willie Rubio; and her parents
Iver and Pearl Dahl.
Mary is survived by her sons, Tim Wagner and his wife Rhonda, Alvin
Rubio and his wife DeDe and Steve Rubio; one daughter, Stephanie
Aurora nd her husband Mike; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild;
and one brother, William Dahl and his wife Peggy.
Memoria services will be held on Saturday, September 9 at the
Manzanita Baptist Church in Kingman, Ariz., with burial in the
Mountain View Cemetery in Kingman, Ariz.
HOLT, Erastus Evans

Erastus Evans Holt was born February 25, 1844, in Calloway County,
Mo., and died March 16, 1914, at his home Southwest of Appleton City,
Age 70 years, and 11 days.
While a young man he moved to Bates Co., where he lived up to the
time of his death. December 20, 1868 he was married to Mary Ford.
To this union were born five sons; William E., Albert E., Emmett M.,
Smith and Walter V. Holt. He is survived by his wife, three sons,
five sisters and two brothers, to whom a host of friends and neighbors
extend their deepest sympathy in this time of their sorrow and loss.
In the fall of 1869 Mr. Holt was converted in a meeting held by J.
Hugh Robison, a Baptist Missionary. He became a charter member of
the Round Prairie Baptist Church and for over forty years has been
one of its deacons, ever zealous and wise in his care of his Master's
cause.
After an illness of almost a month on Friday morning about 3 o'clock
he quietly passed away to be at home with his Lord. May his loved
ones be comforted with the thought that "Precious in the sight
of the Lord is the death of his saints", and that in the glorious
morn of the resurrection we shall be reunited never more to say good-bye.
He will be sadly missed in his church and community as well as in
his home.
The funeral service was conducted at the Round Prairie Baptist Church
at 11 o'clock Sunday morning March 8, the pastor Elmer Kirkpatrick
officiating. The text was 11 Cor. 5:8, "Absent from the body
at home with the Lord."
Interment was made at the Round Prairie Baptist Cemeter.

Donald E. "Don" Hooker, 64, of Appleton City passed away Dec. 25, 2008
at his home. He was born Oct. 1944 in Henry County to Raymond and Lena
[Bean] Hooker.
On October 18, 1968 he married Patricia Jeanne Halley at Lee's Summit
and she survives of the home. Other survivers include a daughter Tammy
Rae Hooker Halley of the home; two sons, Robert and Richard Hooker,
Olathe, Kansas; special daughter, Dawn Rae Dowling [Jim];
grandchildren Jamie [Laura], Tyler, Kaitlin, Tanner; great grandkids

Funeral services were held for Lena E. Hooker, 47, on Saturday,
November 9 at the Eckhoff Funeral Home with Reverend Joe Wix
officiating. Pallbearers were Michael Bean, David Bean, Dennis
Williamson, Michael Williamson, Normie Williamson and David Miller.
Interment was in the Harmony Cemetery under the direction of Eckhoff
Funeral Home.
Lena E. (Bean) Hooker, a life-long resident of St. Clair County, was
born February 19, 1927, to Ernest S. and Martha Bean. She died
November 7, 1974, at the age of 47 years, eight months and 18 days. On
October 17, 1942, she married Raymond Hooker and to this union five
children were born. Mrs.
Hooker was preceded in death by two children, Linda and Pauline
Hooker, and two brothers. She is survived by her husband of the home;
three children, Bobby Hooker, Susie Hooker and Donald Hooker; her
parents; one grandchild; five sisters and four brothers.

Catherine Hooker, infant daughter of Raymond and Lena E. Bean Hooker,
who was stillborn at the Osceola Hospital, April 30. Rev. Joe Wix of
Butler officiated at the service. Survivors in addition to the parents
are two brothers, Robert Wayne of the home and Donald Eugene of Kansas
City; a sister, Susan K., grandparents and several other relatives.
Among those attending the service were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Herndon of
Pittsburg, Kansas.

Alva Franklin Hooper, Sr., 89, Lee's Summit, died yesterday at a
medical center in Lee's Summit. He was born in Osceola, Mo., and lived
most of his life in Adrian, Mo. He lived the last three and a half
years in Lee's Summit. Mr. Hooper was a farmer and a produce dealer in
Adrian. He was a member of the Adrian United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nettie F. Hooper of the home; four sons,
Alva F. Hooper, Jr., Adrian; Jack Hooper, 8829 Hunter, and Kenneth L.
Hooper, 7414 Hedges, both of Raytown, and Richard R. Hooper, Dallas,
Tex.; three daughters, Mrs. Alice Rinehart, Lee's Summit; Mrs. Daisy
Derks, 11004 Military Club Road, Raytown, and Mrs. Billie Utterback,
9517 West Eighty-ninth, Overland Park; two brothers, Sina Hooper and
Manuel Hooper, both of Butler, Mo.; 21 grandchildren, and 22
great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday at
the Atkinson-Dickey chapel, Adrian; burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery,
Adrian.
HOOPER, Charles Eugene
Charles Eugene Hooper, the eldest son of B.F. and Mary E. Robertson
Hooper, was born Oct. 19, 1877 in St. Clair County near Osceola,
Missouri and departed this life on September 20, 1955 at the Butler
Memorial Hospital at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 1 day.
He grew to young manhood on a farm near Osceola and received his
education in the rural schools of St. Clair County. On Nov. 12, 1902
he was united in marriage with Ola d. York of near Johnstown,
Missouri. Miss York had formerly been a resident of Osceola, moving to
Bates County with her parents in 1901. They went to St. Clair County
where they made their home on a farm for two years, moving to Bates
County in the spring of 1904, settling on a farm near Ballard. In the fall of 1915 Mr. Hooper bought a farm near Ballard and built a
house, moving his family there in the spring of 1916. And it is there
Mr. and Mrs. Hooper reared their family of three sons and seven
daughters. One daughter, Mary E., died in infancy and one son, Francis
M., passed away at the age of seven years.
It is at the hold home where many family reunions and other happy
gatherings have been enjoyed among which was the celebration of Mr. &
Mrs. Hooper's golden wedding anniversary on Nov. 12, 1952.
Mr. Hooper was converted in 1912, uniting with the Oak Hill Methodist
Church, later transferring his membership to the Walnut Grove
Presbyterian Church where he remained a faithful member until his
death, attending services as long as his health permitted.
Mr. Hooper was especially fond of the little children of the Church
and the community and many of them called him the "Chewing Gum Man" as
he never was without this small favor to pass out to each child he
met. Mr. Hooper was a kind husband, a loving father, a good neighbor
and a progressive citizen, being especially interested in good roads
and better schools for the community. He retired from farming about
eight years ago when his health began to fail but was a zealous
gardner and he worked at this hobby as long as his health permitted.
He planted his garden this spring but was never able to tend it. He
was patient during his enitre illness, never losing faith, nor
doubting but that he would recover.
Mr. Hooper was preceded in death, besides the son and daughter
mentioned above, by his parents, and a sister, Daisy who passed away
in infancy.
Survivors are: His wife of the home; three sons, Nathan F., Charles E.
Jr., and Russell K., all of Kansas City, Mo.; seven daughters, Mrs.
H.H. Hoover and Mrs. Orva Grasshart of Urich, R.F.D., Mrs. Harley
Hoover, Clinton, Mrs. Guy Hendrickson and Mrs. Phyllis Hawley of
Independence, Mrs. Sherman Martin, Kansas City and Mrs. John Hayden of
Gardner, Kansas; twenty-one grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;
four brothers, A.F. Hooper, Adrian, S.E. Hooper, Butler, J.C. Hooper,
Osceola and Manuel Hooper, Ballard; one sister, Mrs. Virgil Higgins,
Appleton City. A great number of nieces and nephews, besides other
relatives and a host of friends.

Mrs. Wilbur Barth, of Urich, Mo. was the accompanist.
The Pall Bearers were all grandsons: Francis Hoover, Galen Hoover,
Delbert Hoover, Dale Hendrickson, Bobby G. Martin, and Junior
Grosshart.
Interment was in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
HOOPER, Ella Leota McGee

Mrs. S.E. Hooper - Mrs. Ella Leota Hooper was born December 1, 1889,
the daughter of William and Naomi McGee, in St. Clair County, Mo., and
departed this life on October 10, 1968 at the age of 78 years, 10
months and nine days, at the Bates County Memorial Hospital.
She was united in marriage to S.E. Hooper on September 9, 1906 and had
observed their 62nd wedding anniversary on September 9. This union was
blessed with five children. Those preceding her in death were her
parents, a son, Dennis McGee Hooper; two brothers, Ed and Asa McGee
and a sister, Docia Allen.
She is survived by three sons, Edgar Hooper of Dallas, Tex.; Forrest
Hooperof Oklahoma city, Okla., LaVerne Hooper of Kansas City, Mo.; one
daughter, Pauline Gabriel of Butler, Mo., a half-brother, Ernest
Wilson; a half-sister, Nona Scott, both of Eaton, Colo.; seven
grandchildren, four great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews,
other relatives and a host of friends.
She was an active member of the Methodist Church and enjoyed her work
in the circle, as long as her health permitted.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, October 13, at the Ohio
Street Methodist Church with Rev. Lester Thornton officiating. Burial
was made in Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Culver-Underwood
Funeral Service.
HOOPER, Emery Floyd
Emery Floyd Hooper was born October 21, 1907 to Jesse and Nancy
(Garrison) Hooper in Osceola, Mo. He passed away on April 28, 2000 at
Wilshore at Lakewood in Lee's Summit, Mo.
Floyd spent his entire life in the Bear Creek Community where he
enjoyed making his living as a farmer and being a friend and neighbor
to those he loved.
Floyd and Buelah (Sally) Murray were united in marriage on November
10, 1934. To this union five children were born, John Michael, James
Carl of Webster, Paul Floyd of Osceola, Linda Hooper Hodges of Lee's
Summit, and Jackie Wayne of Merriam, Kans.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, John Michael;
one sister, Edna Mae Hooper Jacobs of Los Animas, Colo.
He is survived by his wife "Sally" of the home; four children; one
sister, Ruth Hooper Chapman of Lowry City; and a host of nieces,
nephews, friends and neighbors.
Floyd became Christian at the age of eight years and was a faithful
lifelong member of Bear Creek Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 1, 2000 at Sheldon-Goodrich
Chapel.

Jesse Hooper Services June 28 -
Funeral services were held at the Osceola Methodist Church Thursday,
June 28, for Jesse C. Hooper, who died June 23 at the age of 78 years,
nine months and four days. He had been a patient at the Osceola
Medical Hospital for 27 months.
Officiating at the services were Rev. C. Fay Kessinger, pastor of the
church, and Wilmer Harper, Penny Dukes and Sue Krider sang two
numbers, accompanied by Mrs. Herbert Dukes.
Pallbearers were the following nephews; Forrest Hooper, Balter;
Laverne Hooper, Indiana; and Nathan, Charles, Russell and Roy Hooper,
all of Kansas City. Burial was made in the Osceola cemetery.
Mr. Hooper, son of the late Frank and Mary Hooper, was born Sept. 19,
1883 in St. Clair County. He attended school at Bear Creek and was a
member of the Bear Creek Methodist Church.
His marriage to Nancy M. Garrison occurred March 23, 1905. Four
children were born to the couple. One died in infancy.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Edna Jacobs of Las Animas,
Colo., and Mrs. Ruth Chapman of Lowry City; one son, Floyd of near
Osceola; ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and three
brothers, Sina, Manuel of Butler and Alva of Adrian.
HOOPER, John Marion

John Marion Hooper, a most estimable citizen of Corbin Community died
suddenly at his home, January 13th. He had been in poor health for
some time, but his death came as a shock to the community.
Deceased was born in Tennessee in the year of 1850. He came to this
community when a young man, 18 years of age, and has lived in the
vicinity of Osceola ever since. He was married to Mary Ann Wilson in
the year 1876. To their union were born nine children, six boys and
three girls, all of whom were present at funeral services except one
daughter, Lennie, who died at the age of 18 years.
He is survived, in his immediate family, by his wife and children who
are as follows:
Mrs. Nellie Quinn, Coffeyville, Kansas;
Mrs. Cinda McNutt, Chetopa, Kansas;
Mrs. Jessie Farr, Tulsa, Oklahoma;
John Hooper, Smith Center, Kansas;
Clevie Hooper, Sand Springs, Oklahoma;
Robbie Hooper, Osceola, Missouri;
Mrs. Maude Prine, Collins, Missouri;
Mrs. Birdie Moore, Osceola, Missouri.
He also leaves 25 grandchildren, one of wom, Leslie McCaslin, of
Tulsa, Oklahoma attended his obsequies.
Mr. Hooper was held in very high esteem by his friends and neighbors
and his passing brings deep sorrow and noted absence from their midst.
His funeral services were conducted at the Bear Creek Church by H.E.
Carpenter, pastor of the Osceola Christian Church on Tuesday afternoon
at 2:20.
Very appropriate music was rendered by the local choir with a special
solo by Mrs. I.R. Knight of Osceola. Quite a profusion of floral
offerings bore evidence of the sentinent in which he was held. His
remains were laid to rest in the Bear Creek Cemetery among the scenes
of his life's labors. The entire community shares in the sorrow of the
bereaved home.
HOOPER, Lennie

Miss Lennie Hooper, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John Hooper, died about 5
o'clock Monday afternoon, Jan. the 8th at the age of 18 years, 7
months and 28 days. She is survived by her father and mother, five
sisters, Misses Berdie, Maud and Jessie Hooper and Mrs. Nellie Quinn
and Cinda McNutt and three brothers, Robert, Cleve and John Hooper.
Miss Hooper had been in poor health for the past eighteen months and
almost confined to her room for the past year. During her illness, she
was at all times patient and in good spirits. By her death, many
hearts were made sad and especially in the home circle, life will
never be quite the same. Those who were nearest her will long for her
companionship and always smiling face. She professed the Christian
faith about two months before her death, stating that she was prepared
and ready, at any time, to meet God. Her death was not only a loss to
the immediate family but to the entire community in which she lived.
Funeral services were held at the Bear Creek Church, Wednesday,
January 10th, 1911, being conducted by the pastor, J. A. Brown.
Interment was made at the Bear Creek cemetery. Besides her relatives,
she had friends, who crowded the church to pay thelast tribute of
respect to the one who had lived in their midst and whom they had

Manuel Hooper - Mr. Manuel Hooper, a retired Butler businessman, died
June 21, 1981, at Bates County Memorial Hospital. He was born July 21,
1893, in Osceola to Benjamin F. and Mary Elizabeth Robertson Hooper.
In 1917 Mr. Hooper moved to the Ballard area, where he operated a
grocery store for several years. He and his wife moved to Butler in
1956, where they owned and operated the Hub Drive-in until 1959. On
June 6, 1929, he married Leta Hendrickson. Survivors include Mrs.
Hooper of the home; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral was
June 24 at the Underwood-steinbeck Chapel with Rev. Charles
Hendrickson of Sedalia officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

95 Years Old Last Thursday -
Mrs. Mary Hooper Is A Long Time Resident Here -
Mrs. Mary Wilson Hooper celebrated her 95th birthday last Thursday at
her small home in the northern part of Osceola. She has been a
resident of this community for the last 77 years.
With her mother and six brothers and sisters, Mrs. Hooper came toa
farm in the Bear Creek community east of Osceola from the old Wilson
home in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The trip was made by railroad and
three full days were required to complete it. A brother, Jim Wilson,
and a sister, Mrs. Cynthia Greenwell, preceded the remainder of the
family to St. Clair County.
While in most respects Mrs. Hooper's health is good, her eyesight has
failed perceptibly in recent months and her hearing is not sharp. She
spends most of her days sitting and rocking in a chair by a window
that overlooks the Osage river and the dam. Her memory is extremely
sharp in that she was able to recall old dates and figures with
apparent ease. She was rather shy on receiving publicity, stating that
"I kind of hate to have my picture in the paper."
Old age is not uncommon in Mrs. Hooper's family in that a sister, the
late Mrs. Cynthia Greenwell lived to be 96.
Mrs. Hooper was married September 5, 1876 to John Hooper, who died in
1928. They had nine children of whom five are living. They are Mrs.
Cynthia McNutt, Mrs. Maudie Pryne and Mrs. Birdie Hooper all of
Osceola, John Hooper of Athol, Kansas and R.H. Hooper of the Bear
Creek Community. Mrs. McNutt has been staying with and caring for her
mother constantly since she moved to town from the farm in February of
1944. Mrs. Hooper also has 23 grandchildren and a host of great
grandchildren.
She was known as a skilled seamstress until a few years ago when her
eyesight prevented her from doing her work. On her birthday October
27, Mrs. Hooper, her neice, Mrs. Minnie Snyder of Lowry City, and Mrs.
Lucinda McNutt entertained R.H. Hooper, Mrs. Maudie Pryne, Mrs. and
Mrs. Henry Endicott, Mrs. Clyde Vest and Mrs. Birdie Moore. She
received a shower of cards and gifts. Mrs. Bertha Lawton was an
afternoon caller.

Obituary -
Mary Wilson Hooper was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky October 27,
1854, and passed away at her home in Osceola Wednesday morning,
February 7, 1951, being past 96 years of age.
When about 13 years old, she came with her mother and six brothers and
sisters to Missouri, whither another brother and sister had preceded
them. The family settled on a farm in the Bear Creek community, east
of Osceola. She lived in this neighborhood until seven years ago, when
she came with her daughter, Mrs. Cinda McNutt, to Osceola. In her Bear
Creek home, she was wooed and won by John M. Hooper, and married to
him on September 5, 1876. Here they established their home, and here
they reared their family of nine children, five of whom are now
living.
As the wife of an energetic and successful farmer, Mrs. Hooper led a
busy life, being a true helpmate to her husband, a devoted mother to
her children and a kidn and generous neighbor and friend. Her hands
were always busy with the daily tasks which the housewives of today
accomplish in so much less time with the aid of modern inventions. The
busy hands molded the candles which furnished their light, made great
kettles of soap, spun and wove and knitted the garments her family
wore. Now, she has entered into her rest, and the tired hands are
released from their labors.
In late years her eyesight had failed and she was unable to read or
sew, which distressed her, as she had always been very skillful with
her needle. Her general health was good and her mind very active. Her
wonderful memory was a source of great pleasure to her friends and
relatives, who listened to her reminescences with delight. Her
Christian fortitude sustained her to the last, and only on the last
day of her life was she confined to her bed, insisting always in
sitting in her chair, and entering into the life about her. She was
ready and eager however, to pass on to her eternal home, just biding
her time until the Master called.
She is survived by five children, Mrs. Cinda McNutt, Mrs. Maude Prine,
Mrs. Birdie Moore, Robert H. Hooper, of Athol, Kansas. Also suviving
are 22 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and three great-great
grandchildren, all of whom, with a host of relatives, rise up to call
her blessed, and though they grieve because of their loss, they glory
in her cororiation.Services were held at the Bear Creek church Friday at 2:30 p.m. with
Rev. Albert Gaston officiating. The music was in charge of Mrs. Roxy
Martin at the piano and a quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Keith
Hannah and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Luckey sang several of Mrs. Hooper's
favorite hymns. Interment was in the adjacent cemetery lot under the
direction of the Goodrich Funeral Home.
The family of the late Mrs. Mary Wilson Hooper wish to extend their
sincere thanks and express their apreciation of the many kindnesses
shown during her illness and death, by the many friends, relatives and
neighbors, and to all who in any way helped to make the service a
comfort in our hour of sorrow.

Maude Hooper - Funeral services for Maude E. Hooper were Thursday,
December 18 at 2 p.m. in the Bear Creek Methodist Church. Elder Wilmer
Harper officiated. Music was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hooper.
Casketbearers were Brandon Brown, James Brown, Wilbur Brown, Gary
Murray, Jim Murray, Kent Murray and Byron Souther.

Maude Hooper passed away at the Sac-Osage Hospital in Osceola, Mo. on
December 16, 1980 at the age of 85 years, four months and four days.
She was born August 12, 1895 near Corbin, Missouri, the daughter of
James Richard and Nellie Florence Garrison.
She was married to Robert Hooper October 5, 1914. To this union was
born three sons. One died as an infant, two survive their mother,
Robert Leo Hooper and James LeRoy Hooper both of Sugar Creek,
Missouri; two daughters-in-law, Viola and Mabel; three grandchildren,
J.R. Hooper of Odessa, Mo., Cheryl Mariono of Independence, Mo., and
Roger Hooper of Sugar Creek, Mo., and five great-grandchildren, four
sisters, Mrs. Anna Brown of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Blanche Murray of
Independence, Mo., Mrs. Doris Murray and Mrs. Eleanor Murray both of
Osceola, Missouri and eleven nieces and nephews.
Maude was a member of the Bear Creek Methodist Church and spent most
of her life in the Bear Creek Community. Her husband, one son, her
parents, and one sister preceded her in death.
Maude loved the outdoors and all of her relatives, neighbors, and
friends. She will be greatly missed by all.

Nancy Hooper - Nancy Melissa Garrison, daughter of Sarah (Wisner)
and George W. Garrison, was born in St. Clair County on January 8th,
1885 and departed this life June 12, 1979 at the age of 94 years, five
months and two days.
She accepted Christ as her Savior at a very early age and served him
faithfully all her life. At the time of her death she was a long time
member of Bear Creek Methodist Church.
On March 23rd, 1905 she was united in marriage to Jesse Claybourn
Hooper. To this union four children were born.
She is survived by one son, Floyd Hooper of Osceola and one daughter,
Mrs. Ruth Chapman of Lowry City, Mo.Eleven grandchildren: Bill Jacobs of Las Animas, Co., Jesse Jacobs of
Phoenix, Az., Carl Hooper of Webster, Mn., Paul Hooper of Roscoe, Mo.,
Jack Hooper of Belton, Mo., Mrs. Linda Hodges of Lee's Summit, Mo.,
Mrs. Kay Keeling of Oak Grove, Mo., Mrs. Sue Leiber of Osceola, Mo.,

great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by three brothers: Vest Garrison, Rockville, Mo.;

four sisters, Dova Steeber, Waterford, Ca.; Elsie Sidgismund,
Rockville, Mo.; Beulah Heath, Lamar, Mo.; Osa Heath, Oak Grove, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse, on June 23rd, 1962; a
daughter, Edna May Jacobs of Las Animas, Co. on November 19th, 1970
and a son who died in infancy.
Also, preceding her in death were four brothers, David Walter, Louie,
Rolla Bert and John Adam Garrison and two sisters, Viola May Garrison
and Lois Aattebury.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and sister and was
admired and respected by all who knew her.Services were held at the Goodrich Chapel Thursday, June 14 at 2:00
p.m.
The clergyman was Elder Wilmer E. Harper. Music was provided by
Richard Sunderwirth, accompanied by Beryl Kiefer.
Casketbearers were as follows: Danny Hooper, Paul Hooper, Jack Hooper,
Don Hodges, Don Higgins, Bill Jacobs.
The interment was at the Osceola Cemetery.
HOOPER, Nancy Ola Dell
Nancy Ola Dell Hooper was born August 8, 1883 in Camden County, Mo.,
the daughter of Nathaniel and Orlena Dotson York. She passed away July
6, 1973 at the Independence Sanitarium at the age of 89 years and
eleven months.
Mrs. Hooper had been active and able to live alone until March 27,
1973 when she became ill. Since that time she has been tenderly cared
for by her children. Most of her last three months has been spent in
the Bates County Memorial Hospital and the Independence Sanitarium
with some of her children always at her bedside.
Mrs. Hooper was united in marriage to Charles Eugene Hooper November
12, 1902. They made their home in St. Clair County near Osceola until
the spring of 1906 when they moved to Eastern Bates County where they
made their home until Mr. Hooper passed away September 20, 1955.
Mrs. Hooper sold her farm and moved to Butler in June 1957, where she
has since resided.
When a young woman, she accepted Christ as her Savior and became a
member of the Oak Hill Church. After a few years when the church
ceased to function, she moved her membership to Walnut Grove Church.
When she came to Butler to make her home, she became a member of the
First Christian Church. She was very dedicated in her work for the
Lord and was very faithful in her attendance as long as her health
permitted. Her greatest interests in her life were her church, her
family and her friends. She loved her sons-in-law and daughter-in-law
as her own children.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Francis M.
Hooper, age 7 and one infant daughter, Mary E. Hooper, her parents,
three brothers and two sisters.
She leaves to mourn her passing, three sons; Nathan Hooper of
Independence, Mo., Charles E. Hooper and Russell K. Hooper, both of
Raytown, Mo., and seven daughters: Mrs. Nora Eidson of Butler, Mrs.
Ruby Martin of Grandview, Mo., Mrs. Wilma Hendrickson of Independence,
Mo., Mrs. Opal Hoover of Clinton, Mrs. Dorothy Grosshart of Hickman
Mills, Mo., Mrs. Jennie Hayden of Gardner, Ks., and Mrs. Phyllis Bell
of Oklahoma City, Ok. She also leaves three daughters-in-law, six
sons-in-law, three brothers-in-law, 26 grandchildren, 47
great-grandchildren, a large number of nieces and nephews and a host
of friends.
Funeral services were Monday, July 9, at the Underwood-Steinbeck
Chapel with Rev. Frank Know and Rev. Martin Keirsey officiating with
burial at Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services were held Feb. 19, 1960 at the Bear Creek church for
Robert H. Hooper, who died at the Osceola Medical Hospital at the age
of 72 years, three months and seven days.
Rev. Charlres McGrew officiated at the services. He was assited by
Rev. Olson Clifford and J.W. Shepherd sang "Where We'll Never Grow
Old" and "Beyond The Sunset", accompanied by Mrs. Roxie Martin.
Burial was made in the near-by cemetery under the direction of the
Goodrich Funeral Home.
Mr. Hooper, son of John M. and Mary Hooper, was born Nov. 10, 1887, in
the Bear Creek Community where he grew to manhood and spent most of
his life. His marriage to Maud Garrison occured October 5, 1914. Three
sons were born to the couple, one dying in infancy.
Soon after the couple was married they moved to the state of
California but after four years returned to the Bear Creek community
where they bought a farm in the Horse Shoe Bend area near the home of
his parents. They remained here until World War I and then they went
into defense work in Kansas City. Following the end of the War they
returned to their farm.
Mr. Hooper was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny and Cleve;
four sisters, Lennie, Jessie, Cinda and Nellie and both parents.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Roy and Leo of Kansas City; three
grandchildren, James LeRoy, Cheryl Ann and Roger; two
daugthers-in-law, Viola and Mable; and two sisters, Mrs. Maudie Pryne
and Mrs. Birdie Moore, both of Osceola.

Sina E. Hooper was born Sept. 11, 1886, in St. Clair County, Misouri.
He was the son of Mary Elizabeth Robinson and Benjamine Franklin
Hooper. Mr. Hooper passed away Feb. 8, 1975, at the Bates County
Memorial Hospital, Butler. He had been a resident of this community
for several years and was engaged in the produce business much of that
time. He was united in marriage Sept. 9, 1906, to Ella Leota McGee.
She preceded him in death oct. 10, 1968. One son, Dennis, also
preceded him in death. Mr. Hooper is survived by one daughter, Pauline
Gabriel of Butler; three sons, Edgar of Dallas, Tex., Forrest of
Alamo, Tex., and Laverne of Kansas City, Mo. He is further survived by
one brother, Manuel Hooper of Butler, seven grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 12, at
2:30 p.m., from the Underwood-Steinbeck Chapel, Elder Leroy Beckham
officiating. Burial was made in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Alyson Leah Hoots, 17, was born on September 27, 1988 in Clinton to
Brian Hoots and Bonnie Salisbury and passed away on September 8, 2006
in Truman Medical Center in Kansas City.
Alyson attended schools in Archie, Drexel, Smithson Valley, Texas,
Roscoe and Osceola. Alyson moved to Osceola to finish high school and
graduate with her friends she made over the years.
Alyson was preceded in death by her aunt, Lori Harper and her
great-grandparents, Perry and Helen Salisbury and Lowell and Margaret
Roberts.
Alyson is survived by her son, Jack Adam Hoots, father and step-mother
Brian and Sharon Hoots, mother, Bonnie Salisbury, stepfathers, Timothy
Cook and James Cockrell, sister, Amy Hoots, aunts, Valerie Kalberloh,

Irene Hoover, 92, of Osceola, MO, formerly of Kansas City, MO, passed
away October 12, 2004, at Sac-Osage Hospital, Osceola. Funeral
services will be Saturday, October 16, at 2 p.m. at the
Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel, with burial in the Yeater Cemetery, Osceola.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 until service time at
the funeral home. Ms. Hoover is survived by her daughter, Jane Cole of
Osceola, MO. She taught 21 years in the Hickman Mills School District,

Bobby Hopkins, 75, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at his home in Linn
Creek, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in his grandmother's home in Dunnegan, on Aug. 3, 1932 to
John Mead Hopkins and Mary Hazel Larew Hopkins Ault. His father died
when he was five and he went to live with his grandmother until his
mother remarried and they moved to Nevada, Mo. He was a member of the
Nevada High School Class of 1950 and had an associate's degree from
State Fair Community College.
Bobby worked 15 years for Hallmark Cards, leaving to operate his own
business in Osceola. He was employed by the State highway Department
for five years until he heard God calling him into the ministry and he
completed the Course of Study at st. Paul School of Theology. He
pastored the churches of Bear Creek, Mt. Zion, Kidd's Chapel, and
Rockville in St. Clair County; Buckley Chapel, Kirkley Chapel, Prairie
Chapel and Ridgeway in Harrison County; Moundville, Bronaugh and
Sheldon in Vernon County; Sweet Springs, St. Paul and Elmwood in
Saline County; Gallatin and Altamont in Davies County; and two
churches in Grundy County. He was active in Boy Scouts and was an
honorary warrior in the Tribe of Micosay.
Bobby was preceded in death by his father, mother and stepfather,
Elmer Ault; a daughter, Judith; and a son, Michael Alan.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sue, of the home; three sons,

Bobby was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great
grandfather. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will
treasure the wonderful memories he has created for his family and many
dear friends.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, Oct. 3, in the Linn Creek
United Methodist Church under the direction of the Allee-Holman-Howe
Funeral Home of Camdenton. A second memorial service was held
Thursday, Oct. 4, in Bear Creek United Methodist Church, Osceola.
Interment followed in Bear Creek Cemetery.

Bobby Hopkins, 75, died Monday, October 1, 2007, at his home in Linn
Creek after a long battle with cancer. He was born in his
grandmother's home in Dunnegan, Mo., on Aug. 3, 1932, to John Mead
Hopkins and Mary Hazel Larew Hopkins Ault. His father died when he was
five and he went to live with his grandmother until his mother
remarried and they moved to Nevada, Mo. He was a member of the Nevada
High School class of 1950 and had an associates degree from State Fair
Community College. Bobby worked fifteen years for Hallmark Cards,
leaving to operate his own business in Osceola, Mo. He was employed by
the State Highway Department for five year until he heard God calling
him in to the ministry and he completed the Course of Study at St.
Paul School of Theology. He pastored the churches of Bear Creek, Mt.
Zion, Kidd's Chapel and Rockville in St. Clair county; Buckley Chapel,
Kirkley Chapel, Prairie Chapel and Ridgeway in Harrison County;
Moundville, Bronaugh and Sheldon in Vernon County; Sweet Springs, St.
Paul and Elmwood in Saline County; Gallatin and Altamont in Davies
County; and two churches in Grundy County. He was active in Boy Scouts
and was an honorary warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Bobby was
preceded in death by his father, mother and step-father, Elmer Ault; a
daughter, Judith; and a son, Michael Alan. He is survived by his wife
of fifty-one years, Sue, of the home; three sons, Dennis (Sheryl) of
Blackwater, Mo., Don (Peggy) of Belton, Mo., and Ron of Linn Creek,
Mo.; a daughter, Becky (Richard) of Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Helen

William O. Hopkins was born Feb. 18, 1855. He passed away on the 27th
day of November at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Earl Bourland. He
was united in marriage to Maria Babb in December, 1882, who preceded
him in death fifteen years ago.
To this union five children were born, three living at present and two
preceding him in death. Lulu, age 16, passed away in 1900, and Mrs.
Grace Postlewait in 1926.
Those living are Mrs. Earl Bourland of Rich Hill, MO; Mrs. Floyd
Richmond, Roscoe MO; A.M. Hopkins of Rich Hill MO. He also leaves 9
grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A life of 81 years, 9 months and 9 days has ended and come to the end
of a long weary travel.
Grandpa Hopkins had lived his entire life in St. Clair County. He had
been in poor health for several years, but had been bedfast for five
weeks.
He was converted 33 years ago, and joined the Baptist church to which
he remained a faithful member until his death.
The funeral was conducted at the Roscoe Christian church by J.B.
Kirkland.

Mary Kathleen Greathouse Houk, 80, was born March 7, 1921, near
Osceola, the oldest daughter of Harry and Beulah Burrow Greathouse.
She passed away April 26, 2001, at the Oak View Living Center in
Jefferson City, following a long illness.
At the age of 18, Kathleen was married to Orville (Mick) Houk on March
16, 1939. Two children were born to this union: Mickey Dale and Sharon
Gail.
Kathleen lived with her family in Kansas City for many years before
relocating to the Taberville - El Dorado
Springs area in 1970. She loved growing flowers and sewing. Her life
was raising her children, and caring
for her grandchildren while their mother worked. Her passion was
depression glass and collectibles, and she
had an antique shop for a time.
Kathleen had a salvation testimony of being saved in the Holiness
Church at Cook's Chapel as a young
teenager. She was baptized along with her husband and their son and
daughter in November of 1955 at
Greendale Baptist Church in Kansas City. Her membership has been at
First Baptist Church of El
Dorado Springs since about 1972.
Kathleen was preceded in deathy by her husband, Orville; their son,
Mickey; her father and mother, Harry and Beulah Greathouse; two
brothers, Elmer Greathouse and Edgar Ray Carriker, and a sister,
Evelyn Houston.
Kathleen is survived by her daughter, Sharon
Gail-Jefferson City; four grandchildren: Jerry Dysart-Warrensburg;
Cary Dysart-Greenwood; Sandy Crane-Jefferson City; and Susan
Thorne-Watertown, NY; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also
survived by three sisters: Gerry Hughes-Archie, Bernie
Butler-Independence and Joyce Gray-Schell city; eight nephews, 11
nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held Saturday, April 28, in the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel
with Pastor Carl Butler officiating. Music was by Pastor Carl Butler.
Interment was in Yeater Cemetery under the direction of
Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

Beatrice Pauline Houston, 76, Osceola, formerly of Humansville, died
Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, in Sac-Osage Hospital. The daughter of Harlin
and Ethel Wilson Piper, she was born in Polk County August 29, 1929.
Bea owned the Trading Post Café in Humansville for 15 years, where she
was known as Aunt Bea by her customers. After selling the café, she
continued working there greeting customers and making her well known
pies.Her parents, a brother, Ralph Piper, and her husband, Marshall Houston,
Jr., preceded her in death.
She was saved in 1993 and attended church at Kidd’s Chapel. Survivors
include two children, Bob Houston, Monett and Marsha Quessenberry,
Collins; as sister, Lavona Jolley, Humansville; a brother David Piper,
Humansville; five grandchildren, Earlene, Sara, Jason, Cerry and
Bobbi; and seven great-grandchildren, Samantha, Scout, Kaylee, Kalvin,
Jeffrey, Wesley and Casey.
Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006 in Murray Funeral Home,
Humansville, with Pastor Sam Masten officiating. Interment was in
Humansville Cemetery.

Charles Edward Houston, born Sept. 30, 1928, in Clinton, to Bert and
Gertie Houston, passed away April 14, 2006, at St. Joseph Medical
Center, Kansas City.
Charles was raised in Osceola and graduated from Osceola High School.
He attended college in Warrensburg, then worked in forestry service
until joining the Marines in August 1946. He lived in Kansas City
where he worked for General Motors and later became a painter and
carpenter.
In December 1953 Charles was united in marriage to Catherine Howard.
They movded to Rockville in the 1970s where he was mayor for 22 years.
He was a very active member of the Rockville Baptist Church and was
also a member and former commander of the VFW in Appleton City.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine; granddaughter,
Sandra; his parents; three brothers, Darrell Ray Houston, Bobby
Houston and Coy Houston and his dog, Boots.
He is survived by his daughter, La Donna Rector and her husband,
Rolly, South Sioux City, Neb.; one brother, John Bert and his wife,
Nancy, Osceola; four sisters, Katherine Massey and her husband, Ewell,
Hale, Darlene Brattin and her husband, Sonny, Tiffin, Nova Brattin,
Osceola, Patty Clark and her husband, Doug, Osceola; two grandsons,
Scott and Ron; eight great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other
relatives and many friends.
Services for Charles were Monday, April 17, at the Rockville Baptist
Church with Reverend Gene Gray officiating.
Musical selections were "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", "Serenaded
By Angels", and "Amazing Grace" by Mrs. Paula Gray.
Casketbearers were Travis Hall, Faron Clark, Ken Huff, Noel Clark,
Jesse Hall and Brian Fieth. Honorary casketbearers were Al Miller,
Frank Watson and Larry Hadsall.
Military services were by the National Guard Oscar Team.
Interment was in the Rockville Cemetery under the direction of

Linda Louise Howard was born on April 28, 1950 to Claude and Lovetta
Jones in Clinton.
Linda was married to Charles Howard for 41 years. To this union five
children were born, Linda Bedford and husband James, Charles Howard
and wife Leona, George Howard and wife Ruby, Roy and wife Mindy and
Shang and wife Stacy.
Linda is preceded in death by her father Claude Jones; three brothers,
Clarence, Clark and Terry Jones and one great-grandson, Joseph
Quintana and a newphew, Shannon Lee Jones.
Linda is survived by her husband, Charles Howard, Linda Bedford and
husband James, Charles Howard and wife Leona, George Howard and wife
Ruby, Roy and wife Mindy and Shang and wife Stacy; seventeen
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, William,
Jimmy and Claude Jones; two sisters, Helen Peek and Sandra
Schweighauser, along with other family and friends.
Services were Saturday, March 7, at 10 a.m. at Sheldon-Goodrich
Chapel.
Minister was Rev. Jerry Braughman.

HOWARD, Sarah Catherine Inskeep

Sarah Catherine Howard, daughter of Wm H. and Catherine H. Howard, was
born Feb. 27, 1876, and departed this life, Oct. 24, 1943 at the age
of 67 years 7 months and 27 days.
Although frail in health for several years, her suffering at the time
of her death was only a few hours.
She came with her parents by covered wagon from Greene County, Indiana
when she was six years old, to St. Clair county where she has spent
the remainder of her life.
She was converted at the age of 16 years and became a member of the
Methodist church of Kidd's Chapel. Later in life with her husband and
children, she changed here membership to the Untied Brethren church at
the same place.
On Oct 12, 1898 she was united in marriage to Robert Edward Inskeep
and to that union ten children were born. Three of them preceded her
in death in early childhood.
There left to mourn her departure her faithful companion are Howard E.
Inskeep of Appleton City, Mrs. Edith Creed of Klamath Falls Ore., Mrs.
Hallie Chiles of Oakland Calif., Mrs. Esther Jones of Adrian, William
B. Inskeep at home, PFC Richard L. Inskeep of the Untied States Army,
overseas, and Mrs. Nina Ginter of Osceola also five granddaughters and
six grandsons, one of Home is FFC Kenneth Chiles, of the United States
Navy, and three great grand son, also elderly sisters, Mrs. Emily L.
Williams of Osceola and Mrs. Mary M. Dark of Osceola, and a host of
nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends.
She had a pleasant sunny dispersion, and her every thought was for her
home and family. She was a lover of flowers and spent her spare
moments tending them. She was good wife and mother, and will be sadly
missed by her family and friends.
Blessed are they who die in the Lord, yea saith the spirit. They shall
rest from their labors and their works shall follow them.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Kidd's Chapel with the
Rev. Gay Shoemaker officiating and burial was made at the same place,
under the direction of the Osceola funeral Home.

Sarah Alice Howerton was born October 31, 1917 near Osceola to
Ebenezer and Sarah Elizabeth [Green] Roberts. She passed away March 1,
2009 at Truman Lake Manor in Lowry City where she had lived for the
past five years.
One of ten children, Alice grew up in the Osceola area.
On November 6, 1935 she was united in marriage to Franklin E. "Vandy"
Howerton. to this union five sons and two daughters were born.
Vandy and Alice operated a service station and cafe near the Pasley
Auction Co. from 1946 through 1975. Their cafe was the central hub of
the weekly Thursday cattle auctions.
Alice was a loving mother and centered her life around her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vandy, in 1998, a daughter
Glenda Marie, six brothers; Louis, Leonard, Frank, Henry, Bill and Jim
Roberts, two sisters, Lena Copenhaver and Lillie Sale.
Alice is survived by five sons; Robert E. of Osceola, William Wayne
and Daniel Leroy of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Richard Leon of Nixa and
Thomas E. Howerton of Sedalia; one daughter, Mrs. Irene Wilson of
Osceola,; one sister Dimple Tuck; ten grandchildren, numerous
great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Nina Johnston,Dixie Roberts
and Imogene Anderson, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends.
Services were Wednesday, March 4 at 2 p.m. at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel.
Minister was Rev. Curtis Owens. Nusic was "How Great Thou Art" and
"Amazing Grace" by Rob Self and Mary Lu Hildebrand.
Casketbearers were her grandsons.

HUBBARD, William Albert

William Albert Hubbard was born near Cole Camp in Benton county,
Missouri, January 12, 1856, and departed this life at the home of his
son Ernest, in the Mt. Zion neighborhood, January 6, 1929, at the age
of seventy-two years, eleven months and twenty-five days.
At the age of nineteen years he was united in marriage to Narcissa
Park, and to this union seven children were born, five of whom
survive, two dying in infancy. The wife and mother passed away
February 9, 1890, at the age of thirty-four years and three days, and
the father was left to face the struggle of rearing his family alone.
In early manhood he united with the Christian church and in the
closing years of his life this faith sustained and comforted him.
"Uncle Al", as he was familiarly known, will be greatly missed by a
host of friends and relatives, and his place in the sorrowing hearts
of his children and grand-children can never be filled.
He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Mary Park of Lowry City,
Missouri; Mrs. Jane Burris of Appleton City, Missouri; and Mrs. Lizzie
Apperson of Bartlett, Kansas, three sons, H.O. of Iola, Kansas; E.W.
of near Mt. Zion, Missouri; and Frank of Ukiah, California; two
daughters, Mrs. Mina Jacobs of Chelsea, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Nellie
Harpham of Olden Missouri, besides thirty-two grandchildren, twelve
great-grandchildren and many other relatives.
"Uncle Al" traveled far but his beloved hills were always "home" to
his heart, and it is very fitting that his last resting place is here
amid the old haunts of his boyhood. Let us "think of him faring on as
dear in the love of there as the love of here." Gone to the land of
cloudless day, "he is not dead, he is just away."
Funeral services were conducted by Elder H. E. Carpenter at the Park
Grove church, Wednesday morning, January 9. Burial was in the Park
Grove cemetery.

Raymon J. Huckelbery, 87, O'Fallon, died Saturday, August 27, 2005, at
St. Joseph's Hospital West in Lake St. Louis. He was a World War II
veteran and retired farmer.
Among survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Willie Jean Banks of Sun
City, California, Judy M. Huckleberry, O'Fallon and Mrs. Linda Grauman
of Russellville, Arkansas; a brother, George Wellington, Clinton; five
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral and Masonic

Evelyn Louise Hudgens was born December 24, 1934, in Osceola, to Jesse
and Maggie Cameron O'Banion. She passed away March 2, 1993, at the
Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton. She was a longtime Clinton
resident and was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Clinton. She
was a medical technologist. She is survived by her husband, John, of
the home; three sons, Mike Johnson of California, Mo., Dale Johnson of
Leeton and Jeff Peek of Virginia Beach, VA.; two daughters, Mrs. Linda
Steward of Clinton and Mrs. Kay Stephens of Clinton; five brothers,
Clarence O'Banion, John O'Banion and James O'Banion, all of Clinton,
Cleo O'Banion of Joplin, and Bob Greathouse of Osceola; three sisters,
Ruth Veach of Osceola, Violet Lindsey of Warsaw, and Lucille Peek of

Beulah Lee Hudson, 86, died Nov. 8, 2006, at Westwood Nursing
Center. Beulah Lee Keller Hudson was born at Roscoe, Missouri, Aug. 19,
1920, the daughter of Albin and Lena Keller.
Her elementary education was
received at Roscoe in a one-room school house. She then attended
high school in Osceola, graduating in 1939.
On April 5, 1941, she married John Guilford Hudson in Osceola. Three children were born to this
union, Kathryn Lee, 1943; Connie Jo, 1944; and John Guilford, Jr.,
1848. In 1942 Gil and
Beulah Lee moved to Hood River,
Ore. When Gil was inducted into the Navy, Beulah Lee and her infant
daughter, Kathryn, returned to Osceola. They later moved to Clinton
where Gil had employment.
On May 18, 1956 the family moved to Urich, where Gil operated
a repair garage. Beulah assisted in
this business until 1969 when she took employment with the Del
Gretzinger Agency, working there for 20 years and then part-time for
the City of Urich.
She was a member of the urich Christian Church and the Nifty Needlers
Sewing Club.
Her husband, John Guilford, preceded her in death as well as her
parents; three brothers, Glenn, John, and Roy; and infant grandson,
Rodney Scott.
She is survived by daughter, Kathryn Barnett and her husband, Larry,Urich, their children Chris Barnett and
his wife Yan, Columbia; daughter, Jennifer LaPorte and her husband, Todd LaPorte,
Lee’s Summit, their daughter Connie Scott and her husband, Bill, Urich, their

Elizabeth Hudson beloved wife of Rev. R. W. Hudson died at her home in

Tennessee Oct 20 1839; married Oct. 10 1858. This union eleven children
were born, two have preceded her to the grave; nine children the
husband and a number of grandchildren survive. She professed faith in
Christ and joined the Baptist Church, was baptized by Rev. J. H. Sands
in 1873 and lived a consistent member to her death and died in the
triumph of a living faith in Jesus. She was sick a long time and all
that medical skill and loving hands could do to relieve her suffering
seemed in vain until death came and said it was enough come up higher
and she fell asleep in Jesus. After a short funeral service at the
home conducted by the writer the remains were taken to the cemetery in
Iconium and laid to rest to await the resurrection morn; followed by
sorrowing relatives and friends. I would say to the heartbroken
husband and bereaved relatives that the removal of such a life from us
leaves a vacancy and a shadow that will be deeply realized by all the
members of the family. We express our hope that ever so great a loss
to us all may be overruled for good to him that "doeth all things

Nedra C. Hudson, 91, La Monte, passed away Dec. 20, 2006, at her home.
She was born Jan. 6, 1915 in Deepwater to Clyde and Myrtle Rippetoe
Corbin.
On March 20, 1938 she was married to Ray F. Hudson in Clinton, who
preceded her in death in 1996. To this union four children were born.
She was a member of La Monte United Methodist Church and United
Methodist Women, where she was a Sunday school teacher and also taught
at Bible school. She was a member of Stokley Homemakers Club and was a
room mother when her boys were in school. She enjoyed making crafts.
Survivors include her four sons, Dennis Hudson and his wife, Becky,
Wayne Hudson, Brian Hudson, all of La Monte and Brent Hudson, Sedalia;
seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Bill
Corbin, Kansas City, Kans.; and one sister, Lois Jones, Kansas City.
Besides her husband, Ray, she was preceded in death by three brothers,
Edgar Corbin, Cleo Corbin and Jim Corbin and one sister, Leona Lasley.
Services were Saturday, Dec. 23, at the La Monte Methodist Church with
Reverend Donna Trollinger officiating.
Interment was in the La Monte Cemetery under the direction of Moore
Funeral Home, La Monte.
The family suggests contributions to La Monte United Methodist Church.

Robert Lee Hudson, age 87, of Bolivar, Missouri passed away at 2:30pm,
Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Citizen’s Memorial Healthcare Center
Facility in Bolivar, Missouri.
He was born October 2, 1921 in Harper, Missouri to Newton Thomas
Hudson and Sally Margaret Gardner Hudson. He grew up near Weaubleau,
Missouri.
He was a Warehouseman for Teamsters Union Local #41 in Kansas City,
Missouri and was a United States Navy Veteran, Storekeeper Third
Class, having served in World War II. He was a member of the Grace
Fellowship Baptist Church in Bolivar. He loved fishing for crappie,
hunting mushrooms and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son; Clayton Lee Hudson who
died in 1975, four brothers, and four sisters.
Robert is survived by two daughter; Karen Sue Brumfield of Lowry City,
Missouri and Jill Ann Sweeney of Livingston, Texas, a sister; Betty
Dobson of Kansas City, Kansas, eight grandchildren, one great
granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Monday, March 16, 2009 at
the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri with Chaplain James
Friend officiating. Musical selections will be "Because He Lives" and
"I Need Thee Every Hour", sung by Malinda Batten with Chris Franklin
playing the piano. Burial will follow at the Iconium Cemetery in
Iconium, Missouri (near Osceola, Missouri) with Military Honors
provided by the AMVETS Post #114 of Flemington, Missouri under the
care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home of Bolivar, Missouri. A
visitation will be from 2:00-3:00pm, Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the
funeral home.
HUDSON, Robert William

Robert William Hudson was born July 17, 1863 in Morgan County and died
April 7, 1917 at the home of his son N. T. Hudson in Warsaw. On
October 10, 1858 he was married to Elizabeth Goddard and to this union
were born eleven children. These children survive him: R. K., S. R.,
J. H., W. F. and N. T. Hudson. Mrs. Nancy Kennedy, Mrs. Julia Foster,
Mrs Emma Silvers and Laura Hudson. Bro. Hudson was ordained a minister
in the Baptist church in 1856 and was an active minister until October
1914. Since that time he has been in poor health and has made his home
with his son. The furneral services were held at his home on Saturday.
The body was taken to Iconium where the burial services were conducted
by Bro. Weir on Sunday.

Lena was born March 1, 1919 in Appleton City. She passed from this
life into the next Aug. 1, 2006 at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home.
She was the daughter of Frank Robert and Elizabeth Irene (Routsong)
Henselmann. She had one brother, James Wendle Henselmann. Lena's
entire life was spent in the Appleton City, Montrose area. She
graduated from Appleton City High School. Lena married Luther
Huenefeldt in 1940 in Warsaw and they made their home in the Montrose
area. She was a member of the Fidalis Club and the White Hall Club.
She worked along with her husband farming and for many years they both
worked at the Calhoun Hatchery in Montrose. For many years she wrote a
community interest column for the local newspapers.
Lena Marie was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in
Montrose and the United Church Women group.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Luther, in
1980, and her brother, Jim Henselmann and his wife Nola.
Survivors include her three children, Betty and husband Fletcher
Reichert of Appleton City, Donald Lee Huenefeldt and wife Juanita of
Butler, and Linda and husband Jerry Cook of Hurricane, West Vir.;
seven grandchildren, Pamela and husband Bill Ellison of Kansas City,
Toye and husband John Kieffer of Shawnee, Kan., Shawn Huenefeldt of
Overland Park, Kan., Kevin Huenefeldt of Kansas City, Danielle Cook of
Hurricane, W. V.; six great-grandchildren, Ben and Aimee Herndon,
Andy, Ashley and Jamie Kieffer and Cameron Fisher.
Services were held at Hill and Son Funeral Home Appleton City, on
Friday, Aug. 4, with Rev. Bob Barringer officiating. Interment was in
the Appleton City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Montrose
Presbyterian-Methodist Church American Cancer Society.

Charles Francis Huffman was born June 10, 1885 at Eagleville, Missouri
and died at the Cedar County Memorial Hospital, ElDorado Springs on
March 8 at the age of 83 years, eight months and 28 days of age.
He spent most of his life as a carpenter and part time farmer. Mr.
Huffman and his wife moved to a farm near Roscoe in 1954 where they
resided until his death.
His marriage to Carrie Louise Shields occurred on October 11, 1919 in
Sidney, Nebraska. He is survived by his wife, Carrie, two sons and one
daughter. His mother, father and one brother preceded him in death.
Mr. Huffman was a member of the Roscoe Christian Church.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 11, at 2:00 p.m. in the
Goodrich Chapel with the Rev. Jack Kiefer officiating. Burial was in
the Osceola Cemetery.
Ken Barnett, soloist, was accompanied by Mrs. Beryl Kiefer.
Pallbearers were Russell See, Alvin Speight, Myrl Ellis, Homer Tucker,

Dick Ray Huffman, son of William Jacob and Ola Mae (Brown) Huffman was
born on May 26, 1944 in Rockville, Missouri. He unexpectedly passed
away at his home in Grandview, Missouri on January 23, 2006 at the age
of 61 years. Dick lived nearly all of his life in the Rockville and
Grandview, Missouri area, and worked as a machinist at a tool and die
printing company.. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is
survived by his daughter Joyce Trudeau of Deltona, Florida, seven
brothers and sisters; Billie Mae Wilt of Kansas City, Missouri, Jay,
Dean and Jack Huffman and Mary Lou Breeden, all of Rockville,
Missouri, Beverly Brown of Roscoe, Missouri and Fred Huffman of
Independence, Missouri and his five grandsons; Christopher, Aaron,
Anthony, Dalton and Dustin, all of Florida. Dick loved to hunt and
fish and belonged to numerous fishing clubs as well as being a

Thomas Monroe Huffman, Jr. "T.M.", son of Thomas and Elva Gwinn
Huffman, Sr., was born Nov. 28, 1920 in St. Clair County and departed
this life Aug. 20, 2006, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada, at
the age of 85 years.
T.M. spent most of his life in the Rockville area. Upon graduation
from high school he worked in Jefferson City at the Capital Building
until he was called to duty in World War II. After the war he came
back to Rockville where he met and married June I. Cline on July 28,
1948. They started their life on a farm in the Rockville area, then
moved to town soon after he became the rural mail carrier for Route 1,
Rockville, a job that he worked for the next 28 years. T.M. was a
member of the Rockville United Methodist Church, where he served as
Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher for many years.
He also served the church at large as an on call lay speaker. Soon
after the Vererans of Foreign Wars started in Montrose he became a
member and until the later years enjoyed attending the meetings.
T.M. was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Harold H.
Huffman. Survivors include his wife, June I. Huffman, of the home;
daughter, Phyllis J. Love and her husband, Austin, Killeen, Texas;
grandchildren, Christina, Rena and frankie Vanderpool, Sedalia, Justin
N. Love and Veronica, Houston, Texas; son, Eugene M. Huffman,
Rockville; daughter, Joyce S. Mitchell and her husband, C. Dean,
Rockville; grandson, Barry S. Mitchel, Pawleys Island, S.C.; son, Jon
R. Huffman, Bemidji, Minn.; grandson, Matthew T. Huffman and great

HUGHES, Evelyn Maxine

Evelyn Maxine Bourland was born Feb. 5, 1928 to Harry and Rebecca
Bourland. She was the youngest of five children. The family resided in
the rural Osceola area. She passed away September 30, 1986.
On December 31, 1947, Evelyn married Robert L. Hughes and to this
union three children were born.
Evelyn and the children were military dependents and followed Bob for
most of his service career, living on military posts in the U.S.A. and
spending two tours of duty in Germany. For a period of three years,
Evelyn handled the responsibility of child rearing during Bob’s
additional two tours of duty in Korea and one in Viet Nam. After their
military years and during their residency in Lowry City Bob and Evelyn
made a home for six foster children and one adopted son.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her mother and father and one brother,
Tom Bourland.
She is survived by her husband, Robert, of the home; two sons: Harry
Lee of Lowry City, his wife Donna and their children Melissa and
Mathew; Stephen Douglas of Sullivan, Missouri, his wife Genet and
their children Doug, Tommy and Teresea; one daughter, Mary Katherine
of Springfield MO and one adopted son, Robert Eugene, of the home.
Three sisters are left to mourn Evelyn’s passing; Lena Nelson of the
home in Lowry City; Eunice Hollopeter of Clinton and Dorothy Powell of
rural Osceola.
The family’s loss is shared by a host of friends in the Lowry City
Church and surrounding community.
Bob and Evelyn moved to Lowry City in February 1973. Soon thereafter a
red-letter day marked Evelyn’s conversion to Jesus Christ. She came to
know Jesus as her personal Lord and Saviour at the Church of God
(Holiness) during the ministry of Rev. Clarence McClerran. Evelyn was
a beloved sister in this church family. Her life was a blessing to
many and she will be missed by us all.
Evelyn M. Hughes passed away September 30, 1986. Funeral services were
held October 3 at the Church of God (Holiness), Lowry City with Rev.
Steven Cary officiating. Music was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Scott. The casketbearers were: Bob Bourland, Don Powell, James
Wilkins, John Bourland, Roger Powell, and Louis Bruce. Interment was
in Lowry City Cemetery under the direction of Goodrich Funeral Home.

Marjorie Belle Lukenbill Carroll Hughes, 99, was born in Taberville on
March 18, 1907, to Charles M. and Edna L. Lukenbill and died at Magic
Valley Regional Medical Center Tuesday, March 28, 2006, of natural
causes.
Marjorie attended schools in Appleton City and after graduating,
taught school at Prairie Home. She married Bertram Paul Carroll on
March 28, 1925, at Fort Scott, Kan., and moved to Idaho in 1929. They
resided in the Twin Falls and Filer areas. From this marriage was born
one son, Donald Keith and three daughters, twins Shirley Fay and
Sharon Kay and Roberta Jo. They moved to Missouri then back to Idaho
in 1952, where she has resided in Jerome ever since.
Bert died Dec. 31, 1874, and Marjorie married a lifetime friend,
Eugene Hughes, at Elko, on Oct. 28, 1975. Gene died Aug. 17, 1994.
Marjorie was a member of the Reorganized Church of Latter-Day Saints,
being baptized at the age of eight years old. She still went to church
at Twin Falls.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bert, in 1974, and her
second husband, Gene, in 1994; her father and mother; one sister and
two brothers who all lived in Missouri; and also one daughter-in-law,
Nina Carroll, Denver, Colo.
She is survived by her son, Don Carroll, Denver, Colo.; daughters,
Shhirley Fay Lunkin, Jerome, Sharon Kay Kennison, Wendell and Robert
Jo and her husband, Tom O'Donohue, Big Fork, Mont.; one sister, Louise
Davis, Holton, Kan.; seven granddaughters, Donna Carroll, Roseberg,
Ore., Jerri and Greg Will, Hollister, Idaho, Tracie Stone, Jerome,
Idaho; Shanda McClosky, Toledo, Ore., Michelle and John Ladd,
Loveland, Colo., Paula Simerly, Twin Falls, and Shawna and Doug May,
Windsor, Colo.; five great grandsons, Christopher Underwood, Forks,
Wash., Jamie Darrel, Roseburg, Ore., Shawn Franklin, state of
California, Nicholas Ladd, Loveland and Stefan Paul Nash, Windsor,

Robert Lee Hughes was born July 4, 1929, in Osceola to Henry and Mary
P. Sanders Hughes. He passed away August 8, 2005, at the Mission
Veteran’s Home in Warrensburg.
Bob grew up in St. Clair and Henry counties. He spent 21 years in the
U.S. Army having served two tours to Korea, one tour to Vietnam and
two tours to Germany. After retiring from the military he worked for
the Missouri State Parks Department and was superintendent of several
parks.
On Dec. 31, 1947, Bob was united in marriage to Evelyn Bourland. She
preceded him in death on Sept. 30, 1986. After his retirement from the
parks department Bob and Evelyn moved to Lowry City where he worked in
the recreation vehicle business for several years.
Bob was saved in the Church of God, Holiness, Lowry City, and was
Sunday school superintendent for several years.
After Evelyn’s death Bob moved to Clinton and in 1989 was united in
marriage to Donna Morrison.
Also preceding him in death were his parents, Henry Lee and Mary P.
Hughes and his brother-in-law, Marvin Johnson.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Donna, of the home; his children,
Harry Hughes, Deepwater; Steve Hughes, Rolla; Kay Koch and her
husband, Max, Morrisville; and Eugene Hughes, San Francisco, Calif.;
two step children, Dwayne Morrison and his wife Pam, Jefferson City
and Debbie Morrison, Clinton; a brother, Henry E. Hughes and his wife,
Joyce, Montrose; sister, Nettie R. Johnson, Montrose; nine
grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other
relatives and many friends.
Services for Bob were Wednesday, Aug. 10, in the Sheldon-Goodrich
chapel with Reverend Steve Elsey officiating. Musical selections were
“Amazing Grace” and “Beulah Land” by the Scott family.
Casketbearers were Matt Hughes, Gary Hughes, John Bourland, Lee
Hughes, Bob Bourland and Charles Bourland.
Military service was by Clinton VFW Post #1894.
Interment was in the Lowry City Cemetery under the direction of
Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

Tula Hughes was born on Dec. 7, 1917 in Collins to Benjamin and Josie
Wingfield. She passed away on Nov. 14, 2009 at the Hermitage Care
Center.
Tula is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil Hughes, son Dennis
Hughes, brother Ernest Wingfield and three sisters; Jewel Keller, Mert
Hughes and Lena Hughes.
Survivors include her son, Vince Hughes of Humansville, two
daughhters, Betty Pearson of Wheatland and Donna Dempsey of Elkton, 12
grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren
and many beloved nieces and nephews.

I was saddened to hear of the death of Scudder Hull, an old time
resident of Osceola. His family and ours were friends in the years they
lived here. He was the local undertaker and also ran a furniture
store. I am still using a set dining room furniture, purchased from
him by my mother, no doubt in the twenties. Considering the wear and
tear of two generations of children, it is still in pretty good shape.
Their son, Dr. O. Brandon Hull, went to school with my brothers and
since one of my brothers and Brandon both chose to be doctors, I have
forgiven them their early practice of medicine which involved my cat.
She was an unlovely animal, afflicted with mange but dear to my heart.
Those two precocious paramedics dipped her in kerosine and she
disappeared for days. My faith in both of them has been unlimited
since the day she returned cured and starting a fine new crop of hair.
I hasten to add that I am not personally recommending this treatment.
I may have just had a tough cat.
Mr. Hull supervised the moving of cemeteries that proceeded the
building of Bagnell Dam and he later wrote a book about his
experiences. It was entitled, “What Becomes of Us” and is very
interesting reading.
It seems appropriate to quote from it at this time as he closed his
book with these remarks, “After hearing about 6,000 funeral services
preached, including all creeds, and hearing the different versions of
the here-after and then opening about 3,200 graves where human bodies
had been buried from a period of one month to over a hundred years, I
wonder who is right and what does become of us.”
He goes on to say that he has heard many subscribe to the opinion that
our lives are pre-ordained and we have no choice, others believe that
we find heaven or hell on earth. He adds that in his humble judgment
that the spirit leaves the body at the point of death and waits the
second coming of Christ. And he concluded that since only the body has
died, we need not worry about its disposition and he closes with this
question “So, why fear death?”

Walter C. Hull, 84, of Collins was born May 4, 1920, at home
between Collins and Humansville to the late Robert F. and Dovie Allen
Hull. He passed away April 25, 2005, at the home of his nephew and
wife, Terry and Jackie Broyles at Blue Mound, Kan., following a
lengthy illness.
He attended school at Vine Hill at Collins and graduated from
Humansville High School in 1938. Walter lived most of his adult life
in the Collins area except for the 10 years he lived in Osceola and
worked for the United Farm Agency.
In 1941, he was united in marriage to Gladys Irene Holder. They built
a home and moved to the Collins area where they farmed, raised cattle
pursued their love of real estate. He especially loved the contact
with people. He was a member of the Coon Creek Baptist Church at
Collins and a Master Mason receiving his 50-year pin in December 2004.
His parents, his wife of 58 years, Gladys, two infant children and a
niece, Phyllis Broyles Wilbert, preceded him in death.
In 2002 he was united in marriage to Virginia Minks and they resided
in his home at rural Collins.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia; his daughter and son-in-law,
Charlotte and Scott Johnson, Stockton; two grandchildren; two great
grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; his sister and brother-in-law,
Wilma and Allen Broyles, Blue Mound, Kansas; nieces and nephews,
Beverly Harvey and husband, Raymond, Perrytown, Texas, Ken Wilbert,
Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dwayne Broyles and wife, Regina, Terry Broyles and
wife, Jackie, and Kevin Broyles, all of Blue Mound, Kansas, Barbi
Savage and husband, Kenny, of Fort Scott, Kansas; 24 great-nieces and
nephews; 19 great-great-nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and
relatives. Funeral services were Thursday, April 28 in Murray Funeral
Home, Humansville, with Brother Leo Keller officiating. Music was by
Lisa Avery, Kerry Coffel and Krissy Beckmon accompanied by Regina
Broyles. Honorary pallbearers were Bud Keller, Dave Baker, Tim

born April 7, 1910 to George William and Matoka (Rife) Haste. She
graduated from Clinton (MO) High School in 1928. Upon confession of
faith in God, she joined the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ and
was baptized December 1, 1929 by Reverend Ed Strohm, who was the
pastor of Ohio (MO) Christian Church. Irene married William Sanford
Humphrey December 27, 1954. He preceded her in death February 19,
1969. Survivors include a sister Sarah Floyd of Raytown, MO; nephews
and nieces; Tom (Lois) Floyd of Raymore, MO, Ted (Judy) Floyd of Lee's
Summit, MO, Linda Staudenmaier (Steve) of Prairie Village, KS, Sarah
(Tim) McGinnis of Harrisonville, MO, Jerry (Vonda) Floyd of Liberty,
MO and many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Geo. W. Humphries, a well-known and highly respected citizen of this
county, was born near Dayton, Ohio, March 23, 1840. When he was four
years old his father moved to Calloway Co., Mo., where he grew to
manhood. He was united in marriage to Sarah E. Cleveland September 21,
1861. To this union two children were born: Pride, who resides in
Columbus Grove, Ohio, and Mrs. Urich, of Osceola, both of whom were at
his bedside during his sickness. He moved to St. Clair Co., in 1868.
In 1871 he bought and improved a farm 3 miles west of Osceola on which
he resided continuously until the death of his wife two years ago,
since then he has been living in Osceola. He had been in failing
health for some time and on August 9, he passed away at the home of
his daughter. His remains were laid to rest in the Cleveland Cemetery
by the side of his aged wife. Funeral services were conducted by Rev.
Simmons.
What a peaceful rest, to lie down and sleep after a long and tiresome
day’s work, but how much more peaceful the rest must be after a long
and useful life’s work is over.

Death Of A Good Woman -
Mrs. Elizabeth Hunt Dies Suddenly at Her Home on South Main Street.
A wave of great sorrow swept over this community last Monday morning
when the announcement was made that Mrs. Elizabeth Hunt, wife of J.M.
Hunt, an old and well known resident of this place, had died suddenly
at her home on South Main Street. Some anxiety has been felt for some
time past on the account of Mrs. Hunt’s health, which has been
somewhat impaired for the past three or four months, but in their
fears they little dreamed that the sands of a precious life was were
so nearly spent. Her health was about as usual Sunday evening; and on
retiring, she dropped apparently into a refreshing slumber and slept
undisturbed until about 4 o’clock the next morning when she was
awakened by a smothering attack. She had suffered from similar
symptoms once or twice before, but she soon rallied, and when stricken
again last Thursday morning it was confidently expected that she would
soon recover; but despite everything that was done for her relief, she
passed quickly and silently into the eternal slumber of death. Mrs.
Hunt was a most estimable woman – a woman who enjoyed the respect and
love of all who came within the charmed circle of her influence and
acquaintance, and it is needless to state that her death will be
deeply deplored. Like a true wife and mother she loved her home above
all else. It was the one place about which all the hopes, aspirations
and ambitions of her life centered, and to make it attractive and the
abode of happiness to her husband and children, was a duty constant
and supreme. But she has gone – gone to rest beneath the green trees
that grow in perrenial beauty upon the banks of the river of life; but
she left behind her a record of duties faithfully performed in the
interests of those whom she loved, her family, her neighbors and
friends, that will be tenderly recalled through all the years to come.
She is survived by her husband, J.M. Hunt, and five children, viz:
Arthur and Henry Hunt, Mrs. J.M. Burdge of Miami, Oklahoma, and Mrs.
Geo. P. Woodruff and Miss Nellie Hunt both of this city.
Funeral services were conducted yesterday afternoon at the family
residence at 3 o’clock by Rev. W. Semple, after which remains were
followed to the cemetery by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives
and friends. – El Dorado Springs Sun.
Mrs. Hunt with her husband and family formerly resided in our city,
and the announcement of her death will be received with much regret by
all who knew her.

Emogene D. Hunt, 88, Springfield, Mo., formerly of Wheatland, Mo.,
died April 23, 2005, at Manor at Elfindale, Springfield. She was born
March 23, 1917, in Wheatland to Christian Eugene and Tina Abelle
Crates Kleck. She was a retired postal clerk and a charter member of
the Pomme de Terre United Methodist Church. She had lived most of her
life in Wheatland except for a short time in California and then moved
a few years ago to Springfield to be near family members.
Survivors include her son, Eugene Hunt, Springfield; three
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were April 26 at Hathaway-Peterman Funeral Home Chapel at
Wheatland with Rev. Kent Parsons officiating. Burial was in Robinson
Cemetery west of Weaubleau.

Mrs. Arthur Hunt, aged 28 years; died last Saturday afternoon, at six
o’clock, after a very brief illness of two days. Her death was quite a
shock to the people of this city, as there were but few who knew of
her critical condition. Her death was caused by a complication of
troubles, which brought about uraemic poison. A husband and a little
son two years old survive her.
Deceased was a granddaughter of Capt. John Seaton, of Atchison,
Kansas, who is well known to everybody here. Capt. Seaton and the
step-father, mother, sister and an aunt of the deceased came Sunday
afternoon and on Monday the body was taken to Atchison for burial. The
bereaved husband, Mr. and Mrs. Henery Hunt and Mr. and Mrs. George
Woodruff attended the funeral, which was held Tuesday afternoon at the
Seaton home in Atchison.
The death of Mrs. Hunt illustrates the uncertainty of life and warns
us that we know not at what moment the dark messenger may come. Her
going is greatly deplored by friends of whom she had many. – ElDorado

The lady who was the subject of the fore going article was a stranger
to our people, but the husband is well known here, having grown to
manhood in our city, and his many friends and acquaintances feel
deeply for him in this very sad affliction.

Opal Vola Hunt, the daughter of Clarence “Bud” Garland Carroll and
Lena Florence (Short) Carroll was born on February 1, 1910 in St.
Clair County. She passed away on December 16, 2002 at Alpine North
Nursing Home in Riverside, Missouri at the age of 92 years. Opal was a
graduate of Appleton City High School and attended her 75th high
school class reunion in May of 2002. She graduated with a B.S. in
elementary education from Central Missouri State College In
Warrensburg, Missouri and taught school for 37 years in Bates and St.
Clair Counties, retiring in 1973. Opal was united in marriage to
Charles Warren Hunt on April 23, 1936 at her home and they celebrated
50 years of marriage in 1986. She was a founder of the Hudson Hustlers
4-H Club, was on the board of the Bates County American Cancer
Society, a member of Alpha Kappa Delta Sorority, Eastern Star, Rebekah
Lodge, the Missouri Retired Teacher’s Association and Trinity United
Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and
husband. She is survived by a sister Velma Shryack and her husband
George of Kansas City North, Missouri, a niece Patricia (Schmidt)
Crenshaw of Florida two nephews Dave Shryack of Wichita, Kansas and
George L. Hunt of Vicksburg, Mississippi, great and great-great nieces
and nephews and many cousins and friends.

Ina M. Hutton - Ina Marie Hutton, 69, of Hot Springs, died Wednesday,
Sept. 14, at a local hospital.
She was a 10-year resident of Hot Springs, a homemaker, and a member
of Grand Avenue United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Lee Albert Hutton of Hot Springs; two
sons, Charles Lee Hutton of West Bloomfield, Mich., and Don Hutton of
Geneva, Ill.; a daughter, Shirley Posey of Hot Springs; and 14
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hot Springs Funeral Home
Chapel with the Rev. Rex Kling officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Hot
Springs Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hot Springs Funeral
Home.
Memorials have been designated to the American Heart Association or

Lee A. Hutton - Lee Albert Hutton, 86, of Hot Springs, died Tuesday,
Dec. 18, 2001, in a local hospital.
Born April 26, 1915, at Collins, Mo., to James and Emma Baken Hutton,
he was predeceased by his wife, Ina Marie Hutton, and one grandson,
Mark Hutton.Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Mel Posey
of Hot Springs; two sons and daughter-in-law, Charles and Helen Hutton
of West Bloomfield, Mich., and Don and Margaret Hutton of Geneva,
Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Lloyd
Hutton of Summit, Mo.
The service will be 10 a.m. Friday in Gross Funeral Home chapel with
the Rev. Dru Dodson officiating.
