Rural School Rally Day, April 1942

The Weekly News
Lowry City, Mo.
2 April 1942

Results of Rural School Rally Day

Rural School Rally Day for rural boys and girls of St. Clair county held last Saturday showed marked improvement over that of previous years.

There were 226 entries in the 19 different events held during the day with approximately 400 pupils participating.

Mr. Lynn Chambers, Fine Arts Supervisor of Henry county schools, rated all musical numbers and commented especially on the progress made in the selection of musical numbers, presentation, performance and fine quality of work done by teachers and Fine Arts Supervisors of this county.

The Art Exhibit arranged by Margaret Leavenworth, Fine Arts Supervisor, was an outstanding display of art work accomplished by pupils this year.

In the championship spelling contest Lewis school won the cup for keeps, having won it two years in succession. The St. Clair County Democrat has sponsored this trophy for the past four years to the champion speller. Under the rules a school had to win the cup two years in succession to have the right to keep it. Last year Joyce Dummit of Lewis school won the cup and this year Roy Cole of the same school won the cup for the second time to retain it.
