Charles Henry Wade, Sr. -
Born Dec. 22, 1860 in Shakopee, Scott Co MN. He passed away May 5, 1938 at Montier. He married Maria Jane Allen on March 23, 1897. To this union 11 children were born. He was preceded in death by Gertrude Virginia, born February 18, 1905, died in December, 1922, and Harold, born April 22, 1914 in Mildred, Montana, died April 23, 1916. He is survived by his wife Maria, 5 sons; Charles Henry, Jr., Arthur Chester, David Edwin, Wayne William, and Ivan George, 3 daughters; Mary Susan, Julia McKinney and Ester Lillian Pope. Charles and Maria bought a small farm in Montier, Missouri and also had a grocery store in on the main street of Birch Tree, Mo. Charles was advised by many not to extend credit during the depression, but he couldn’t turn people down, and ended up losing the store. Times being hard Charles went to work for the railroad. Maria joined him and she cooked for the railroaders. Mary was called to Missouri from Montana to care for the children while the parents were both away working. After Charles died, Maria stayed on the farm with Art and his family, when her daughter-in-law Lena died leaving small children. Maria took care of them, when Art went to work in Mountain View, Mo. She moved also and lived with them until her death in 1955. Burial at
Montier Cemetery.

David Edwin Wade -
Born September 29, 1903 at Monico, Wisconsin. He moved with the family to Mildred, Montana where his parents homesteaded. He attended a country school called The Bar G School. Times were hard on the homestead so David and his sister Mary went to work for a family called Christenson’s. He milked cows and did chores. This was a happy time for him as the Christenson’s were real good to him. He went to work for the Milwaukee Railroad in 1925. He married Myrtle Huxley and they had one son, William, born in 1929 in Mobridge, South Dakota. They moved to Miles City, Montana where David retired in 1963. David was a great favorite of all his nieces and nephews; he loved children and would almost burst with pride when around his son and grandsons. His son Bill was killed in a car accident in Carmichael, California 1973. This was heartbreaking to David as he also lost contact with grandsons. He loved to tease, he would always ask 'are you eating?' then tell you, if you answered yes 'so take a hammer and knock your teeth out'. He always checked pay phones for change and sometimes would come away with a handful. He was a kind, gentle, uncomplaining man. He was pronounced dead on March 5, 1991 in Coeur’d Alene, Kootenai Co ID. His final years were not pleasant ones and there will always be some question of how and when he died. Burial at

He then attended Central Methodist College until he went into the army. He served in the army from 1943 to 1945 under General Patton, in England, France and Germany. He was awarded a good conduct medal and four bronze stars. He continued to be in contact with people he met in the army, and loved to attend his army reunions (The 8 Balls) whenever they were held close enough for him to go. He first met his wife Naomi (ALCORN) in 1936, when they both lived in Winona as children. They met again in December 1946 when he returned from his military duty. They were married on March 23, 1947. They have two sons, Victor E. and Dennis J. WEAVER. He had four grandchildren who he loved very much: Mary, Nicholas, Rochelle and Matthew. Post #2191, I00F, Selective Service Board, Winona Health Board, 18 years Winona School Board, Mayor 1971-1972, and Democratic Committeeman for many years. He was an Honorary Colonel at Governor Blair’s inauguration. It was there that he became acquainted with Stan Musial, and he enjoyed the association so much, because of his love of baseball. His other great loves were hunting and fishing, and he spent as much time as he could at his cabin on the Current River. He once built a muzzle loader rifle, and he seldom hunted with anything else. He went into the Weaver Lumber Company business with his father after the war. After his father’s death in 1958 he and Naomi took over the management and worked together in the business, until the past few months. Vic suffered two severe heart attacks in July and August of 1973, which forced partial retirement. He died August 21, 1979 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Poplar Bluff. God had called him home. Vic loved all people, and took the time to talk to them and enjoy their companionship. During his six year illness, he would shake hands with a child, with a quarter in his hand, give it to the child and ask him to drink a soda or eat an ice cream cone for him, since these things were not on his diet. Those who were acquainted with deceased found in her a kind and obliging neighbor; she was an affectionate  wife and an indulgent mother and although she never confessed God in the pardon of her sins, her every day walk was that of a Christian and her examples worthy of imitation. She believed strongly in the doctrines of the Baptist Church, but never untied with the order.

FREDA LUCILLE KOOGLER WILKINS

04 Mar 1927 - 18 Feb 2010

Freda Koogler was the daughter of Frank and Rosa May (Craft) Koogler. Freda was born March 4, 1927 at West Eminence, MO. She left this world February 18, 2010 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, MO, making her age 82 years, 11 months, and 14 days. Freda was the youngest of seven children. Her mother died when she was only three weeks old. Freda was reared to the age of three by Annie (Ma) Shedd. After leaving Ma Shedd’s, she lived with her dad, four sisters and two brothers. Grand Pa Shedd would occasionally ride a mule from West Eminence to Mill Creek just to go see his little Freda. In 1943 during WWII, she traveled to St. Louis, MO in search of work. At the age of 16, she lied about her age so she could go to work in a defense plant. On returning home to Eminence, she lived with her sister, Opal, and worked in Lauren George’s restaurant in Eminence. Freda was united in marriage to William Glen Wilkins on March 1, 1947. They were blessed with five children, 1 foster child, 9 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. They shared their lives for 57 years. Much of their early married life was spent living in logging camps throughout Colorado and Wyoming. In 1954, while living in Laramie, WY, Freda accepted the Lord as her savior. She and Glen both were baptized in the North Platte River near Laramie, WY with ice still floating down from the spring thaw. In 1961, they returned to Summersville, MO and joined the First Baptist Church.  Freda worked for Angelica Uniform Corporation in Eminence as a sewing machine operator for many years. After leaving the factory, she opened her own restaurant in Summersville called 'Freda’s', then she and her daughter, Nedria, owned and operated Scenic Rivers Dinner House in Summersville. She also worked for the Senior Citizen Center and Danny Staples as a cook at Harvey’s near Alley Springs. Freda loved to cook, but even more than that, she loved meeting, greeting and serving people. Freda loved it when her family and friends would drop by for a visit. Freda felt like she had to feed the world, so the first thing she would always ask her visitor is 'Have you eaten'? Freda served her community through her church and by being a member of the Ladies V.F.W. Auxiliary. She loved doing crafts, making quilts and keeping her grandchildren. Freda lived out her life serving her church, her family, and her community. Freda was preceded in death by her husband, Glen; parents, Frank and Rosa May Koogler; two brothers, Raymond of St. Louis, MO and Marvin of Salem, MO; four sisters: Ruth Laxton of Springfield, MO; Opal Young Osburn of Eminence, MO; Geneva Crisco of Colorado Springs, CO; Lola Bounds Potter of West Eminence, MO; son-in-law, Bill House of Summersville, MO; and great-grandson, Jacob Whitten of Georgia. She is survived by her children: Nedria and her husband, Ralph Plowman, of Summersville, MO; Glenda Wilkins, of Ozark, MO; LaDonna and her husband, Terry Hartman, of Summersville, MO; Dwane and his wife, Karen Rose, of Ridgeland, SC; Tony Garrison and his wife, Lynn, of Jefferson City, MO; Johanna and her husband, Robbie Lootens, of Taos, MO; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild on the way, many nieces and nephews and numerous friends. She was and is loved by all and will be missed by all. Rejoice in the assurance and knowledge that Freda is now walking with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and holding hands with her beloved Glen. Services were held Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Bradford Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Tommy Boyd and Rev. Steve Steelman officiating. Interment was in Summersville City Cemetery under the care of Bradford Funeral Home.

Notes from Michelle Osborne Shedd, wife of Sherman Shedd: 'Freda Wilkins' mother died when she was a tiny baby.  Sherman's grandmother Pearl became her wet nurse. Pearl was a new mother to Sidney Shedd, who would become my father-in- law.  Having no other siblings, he always referred to Freda as his 'milk sister'.  I think his grandmother, Annie 'Ma' Shedd also helped with Freda's care, but she couldn't meet the 'nutritional demands'.  (That was before Playtex nursers).  We have pictures of Sidney and Freda playing together as children.  He loved her a lot, and so did we!' ~ From The Current Wave

JANET ARLINE BRAWLEY DAVIS UNDERWOOD WILLINGHAM -
Today we celebrate a beautiful life of someone we all love. Some might call her Mom, Grandma, Sister, Aunt or Daughter, but most of all she was a friend to everyone. Janet Arline Willingham (Brawley) joined her loved ones in Heaven on February 15, 2006 after an eight year battle with lung cancer. Though toward the end she became weak and tired, she always showed the beautiful smile that revealed her accomplished life. She not only was a wonderful Mother to her only child, Timmy Douglass Davis, but also a wonderful Grandma to her three most adored grandchildren, Alaina Nicole Smith of Winona, Missouri, Jessica Wynn Davis of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Christopher Douglas Davis of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She especially loved her beautiful great-grandson, Dylan Robert Smith of Winona, Missouri. Janet resided in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for many years but she was always a country girl at heart. She was born on November 14, 1946 and raised in Winona, Missouri. One of her favorite sayings was always, 'A country girl can survive!'  Even though she had been surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the city; she always called Shannon County her one and only home. Her daddy, Carl Millege Brawley, and mom, Ada Ilene Price, lay peacefully at home in Shannon County along with her two brothers, Melvin Lee Brawley and Wayne Lawrence. Janet had always had great pride and respect for her country, and always cherished the Veterans of Foreign War. She told many great stories of helping Veterans recuperate while she practiced Physical Therapy in Mount View and Mexico, Missouri. She had earned an Associates Degree in Physical Therapy along with business ownership and management. Her final place of employment was at Wal-Mart in Oklahoma City where she made many wonderful friends who helped her through the rough times. Janet cherished her family and truly was the happiest when her family got together for her son's famous fish fries or just spending time on the lake tubing. Janet's legacy carries on through her brother, Marvin Loyd Brawley and wife Linda of Winona, Missouri. As well as her son, Timmy Douglass Davis and wife Donna of Moore, Oklahoma, her three grandchildren, and only great-grand child. Janet will always and forever remain in our hearts and memories as a Mom, Grandma, Sister, Aunt, Daughter, and friend. A wake at the home of Marvin and Linda Brawley in Winona, Missouri will begin at 4:00 pm on Thursday, February 23, 2006. Internment is scheduled at 12:00 pm on Friday, February 24, 2006 at

Charles "Buster" Wright passed away at Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool, MO, just 7 weeks shy of his 100th birthday. Born to Emma (Stout) and John Wright at the head of Little Shawnee Creek, Shannon County, MO, Charles was a 12-pound baby deemed a "buster", and the name stuck. Buster grew up in a large family, went to Reed School and to hear him tell it, mostly stayed out of trouble. In the 1930's he earned 30 cents per hour cutting the right of way for highways 19 and 60 manually with a hand scythe. On November 5, 1932, he married Georgia Dillard at Salem, MO, and they eventually purchased a farm on Shawnee next door to Georgia's parents. They raised 3 children: Doris, Charlotte Sue, and Gilford. As electricity became available in 1949, Buster started working as an electrician's apprentice for his brother-in-law Wes Bockman of Winona, wiring many homes in the surrounding area. Beginning in the 1950s, he operated a contract school bus for the Winona school district. Multiple generations of families came to know Buster through his 20 years driving that yellow bus. In between pick-ups and drop-offs, Buster farmed 163 acres, raising beef cattle, chickens, hay, and vegetables and fruit too numerous to mention. Active in the community, Buster came from the olden days of neighbor helping neighbor. Whether making improvements at Bethany Chapel Church, helping with hay, or just being there  for a neighbor in need. Buster was a good story teller. He would tell it with a flavor all his own. He lived nearly all of his long life within just a few miles of where he was born. It seemed he knew everyone, and everyone knew him. In his later years, Buster could tell stories from his youth without leaving out a single detail or punch line. Buster is survived by his children Doris Kirkpatrick of Arnold, MO, Gilford Wright and wife Mary of Mountain Grove, MO, and Charlotte Asher of Sutter Creek, CA; grandchildren Sheilah Asher, Benita Asher and husband Bill Condrashoff, Larissa Wood, all of Jackson CA, Donna Howard and husband Mark of Fenton MO, Diana Bray and husband Ron of Fenton, MO, Tiffany Taylor and husband James of Cabool, MO, John Wright of Atlanta, GA; great-grandchildren Jessica Bray O'Mara and husband Casey, Alisha Bray, Lauren and Gabrielle Taylor; one great- great-grandchild, Liam O'Mara. Buster was preceded in death by his parents, John R Wright and Emma Stout Wright, his wife of nearly 70 years, Georgia (July 2002), and 3 brothers and 4 sisters: Burl Wright, Hubert Wright, Dwain Wright, Lee Wright Randolph, Beulah Wright Bockman, Ruth Wright Williams, Effie P Wright Seaman. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 27, 2011 at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Winona, MO with Rev. Phillip Nava officiating. Interment was in Bethany Chapel Cemetery in Eminence, MO under the direction of Duncan Funeral Homes of Winona, MO.
