Sherry Kay Hilton Simpson - Born May 24, 1954 in Kansas City, MO to William Thomas 'Tom' Hilton, Jr. & Juanita Fay Yearwood. She departed this life on September 5, 2009 at the age of 55 years, 3 months, and 12 days at St. John’s Hospital after a brave and courageous battle with cancer. She was united in marriage to Franklin W. Simpson on December 24, 1971, making them 37 loving years together. To this union, three children were born: Franklin Wayne Jr., William Richard, and Jesse Lynn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Juanita Hilton; one infant brother; and one infant grandson, William Simpson, Jr. She leaves to mourn her husband, Frank, of their home in Winona, MO; son, Frank Jr. and wife, Missy; son, Bill and wife, Michelle; daughter, Jesse and husband, Braunston Bloom, all of Winona, MO; her eight precious grandbabies Melissa, Josh, Emily, Scottie, MacKenzie, Logan, Brendon and Kaylyn; three sisters, Sharrel Jones and husband, Kenneth, of Van Buren, MO, Sharon Smith and husband, Steve, of Bellevue, NE, and Sheena Norris and husband, Rick, of Winona, MO; one brother, Tom Hilton and wife, Kathy, of Winona, MO; nine nieces and nephews and six great-nieces and nephews. Sherry was baptized at an early age, attending the Assembly of God Church and becoming a member of the Young Women for Christ. All who knew Sherry knew of her strong will and mind. Her fierce protective nature and devotion to her family was evident in everything she did. She had a no fear attitude and believed in living each and every day to the fullest. She was always one of the first to try a new experience. Gardening and fishing with her kids were some of her favorite pastimes. She had a gift for landscaping and a passion for making her yard beautiful. With her green thumb, she could grow any flower. She made her own rock gardens and fish ponds. She enjoyed working outside in her yard and seeing the results of all her hard work. Although Sherry will be severely missed by all the loved ones left behind, we can all rest assured that Heaven’s gardens will be even more beautiful when we get there. Sherry’s family was her greatest pride and joy. Nana Sherry will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation was held Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 10 AM at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Winona. Graveside Services followed at 1 PM at Mount Zion Cemetery with Brother Adam Gordon officiating. Interment was in Mount Zion Cemetery under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home of Winona.

MARTHA REBECCA HINES - Born July 10, 1886 at Ink, Missouri.  She was the daughter of John and Caroline Chilton.  She passed away November 26, 1978, in her home, at the age of ninety-two years, four months, and sixteen days. Becca was united in marriage to George Alfred Hines, November 29 1908 near the vicinity of Ink, Missouri.  To this union seven children were born.  Beatrice Leona, John Undewood, Lena Mae, Nora Ethel, James Howard, Thela Francis and Georgia June.  She is survived by four children, John Hines of Eminence, Mae Haycraft of Joilet, Illinois, Thela Caylor of Rockford, Illinois and Georgia Alcorn also of Eminence.  Twelve grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. And a host of relatives and friends. Becca  was preceded in death by her husband George, one son Jimmy, and two daughters Beatrice in infancy and Ethel.  Becca professed her faith in Christ early in her life.  She was a member of the Baptist church here in Eminence.  She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.  Her loving kindness touched all the hearts of everyone who knew her.  Becca was both very faithful and active in her church activities, and remained so until the time of her passing. She got much pleasure from piecing quilts and working with her flowers. She will be remembered for her alertness, sense of humor, and youthful spirit, for it gave much pleasure and enjoyment to her family as well as all who knew and loved her. Becca will be greatly missed, but it brings extreme comfort to all our hearts at this time, by knowing that she has joined the Lord and Saviour whom she loved and served so faithfully.

THEODORE E. HOLCOMB - Born December 25, 1902 in Scandia, Minnesota, the son of Edwin and Freda Holcomb.  He went to school in Scandia and the University of Minnesota.  He had to take over the farm when his father died. On August 10, 1960 he was united in marriage to Freda Grundmann and made their home in Grandy, Minnesota.  In 1969, he moved to Winona, Missouri. Mr. Holcomb passed away on February 27, 1983 after a long illness.  He is survived by his wife, Freda; two stepsons, Hans, State of Washington, and Gerhard, Duluth, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Elma Berglund, of Wisconsin; three brothers, Loren of Florida, Winfred and Kermit of Minnesota. Memorial services were held the 6th of March at the Winona Baptist Church, Pastor F. Hall officiating.  Funeral arrangements were made by Carlson Funeral Home of Cambridge, Minnesota.  Interment at Cambridge Lutheran Cemetery, Pastor Robert A. Engstrom officiating. 

TRAVIS MAYO HOLCOMB - Born October 8, 1927 at Augusta, Tex. to George Crager Holcomb and Martha Ann Felders. Travis passed away April 11, 2006 at the age of 78 years. Travis is preceded in death by his parents, George Crager Holcomb and Martha Ann (Felders) Holcomb; one brother, Herman Holcomb; and five sisters, Lena Pearl Griffin, Erna McLeod, Mary Ann Bush, Georgene Terry and Madia Stewart. Travis is survived by his nieces, Juanell Owens, of Grapeland, Tex.; Pearl Ann, of Trinity, Tex., Debra Miller, of Tomball, Tex., Cecilia Stevenson, of Onalaska, Tex., Lana Baker, of Texas City, Tex.; Linda Rogers, of Austin, Tex., Vivian Lee Kane, of San Antonio, Tex., Marlene Grant of Las Vegas, NV; Wanda Saavedra of Grapeland, Tex., Martha Mandez, of Elkhart, Tex., Janice Sestez, of Jacksonville, Tex.; and his nephews, Reginald Bush, of Jacksonville, Tex., Kenny Bush, of Grapeland, Tex., Ralph Lee Stulce, of Houston, Tex., Theodore ÒTedÓ Stulce of Palestine, Tex., Roger Terry, of Texas City, Tex., and George Ed Stewart, of Grapeland, Tex. Travis will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 18 at 2 p.m. at Summers Cemetery in Ink, Mo. with Carl Younger officiating under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home in Summersville, Mo.

LEE HOLDEN - Age 85, and lifelong farmer outside of Birch Tree, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009. He was born on April 17, 1924, and was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Wanda Mae Laird in 2004. Lee Holden is survived by three sons Bob, Calvin and Steve; one daughter, Cindy; nine grandchildren, Robert Lee III, John D., Chrysa, Calie, Alex, Zoe, Stephanie, Ashley and Adam; and three great-grandchildren. Bob Holden, former governor of Missouri said, 'Dad taught us the importance of hard work, honesty, commitment and truthfulness. He was a straight talker who was passionate when it came to public education. He has seen his family advance from a one-room school house to all four children becoming political leaders, lawyers and educators.” Judge Calvin Holden, Circuit Judge Greene County, said, 'Dad never missed a school function. Mom and Dad were always there for us.” Lee Holden was a U.S. Army Veteran, FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer, was active for many years as a member of the Liberty School Board and was a MFA Oil Company Board member. He was a lifelong active member of the Democratic Party. The funeral was held on the Holden Family Farm Sunday afternoon. In lieu of flowers, the family has set up the Holden Family Education Fund to benefit Missouri children at West Plains Bank, Liberty Branch.

MANUEL RANDELL HOLDEN - Age 65, born April 6, 1944, son of Clifford 'Buck' Holden and Pichie Lola Gale, formerly of Eunice, Missouri, passed away at 4:20 a.m. December, 17th 2009 at St. John's Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri after complications from a heart attack. Manuel married Ellen Mae Busse at the age of 18. They met at Ellen's parents home in Anaconda, Missouri. They began dating and were wed six months later. Ellen still lives in Success, Missouri. Manuel fathered 7 son's over the next few years. Manuel Randell Holden jr. 46 of Success, Mo., David Wayne Holden 45 of Success, Mo., Gary Lynn Holden 44 of Cabool, Mo., Steven William Holden 43 of Houston, Mo., Roy Eugene Holden 41 of Greenwood, Indiana., Gregory Shane Holden 39 of Success, Mo., and Daniel Bryan Holden 37 of Houston, Mo. Manuel enjoyed raising his sons and teaching them to hunt, swim, make a garden, mechanic and many other things to become self reliant alongside the challenges of handling 7 rambunctious boys. He loved camping and swimming in the summer when he was home from the road and at family reunions. He also enjoyed an extensive career as an over the road truck driver as well as self employment in fields like logging, clear cutting, and scrap hauling as well as other odd jobs which showcased his many skills. He loved being in the woods the most and worked hard at it, but made it look easy with tools and machines he fashioned himself. Although a strict and loving father he was also known for his gift of gab and he loved to joke around and fill the air with his infectious laughter. Manuel was also blessed with 11 Grandkids from six of his seven sons and 8 Great Grandkids which expounded his love of a large family. He once told Ellen that he wanted enough sons to make a baseball team. Manuel is further survived by 3 sisters: Noveta Smith of Houston, Mo., Foneta Holden of Houston, Mo., and Brenda Bilderback of Rolla, Mo. He is also survived by 2 brothers: Farely (Farrell) Holden of Lonedell, Mo., and Bruce Holden of Raymondville, Mo.,and many cousins, nephews and nieces. He will be held in loving memory by his extensive family and all those who came to know his friendly demeanor and charismatic personality. WANDA MAE LAIRD HOLDEN - 05 Feb 1927 - May 6, 2004 - Died at her home in Birch Tree, after a long illness, at age 77. She was a native of Kansas City who moved to Birch Tree following her marriage to Robert Lee Holden Dec. 16, 1948. He survives at the home. The Holdens have farmed Shannon County for 53 years, where she was a homemaker, assisted in the management and daily activities of the farm, and was active in the community. She is also survived by three sons: Missouri Governor Robert Lee Holden, Jr., Jefferson City and his wife Lori Hauser Holden; Judge Calvin Ray Holden, Springfield and his wife Margaret Ellis Holden; Steven Ernest Holden, an attorney from Tulsa, Okla., and his wife Laura Ann; one daughter: Cynthia Anne Holden-Hartman, an educator from Carrollton and her husband David; and nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. 'She was a person who never met a stranger, never shied away from a challenge, lived her life with great spirit and energy, and worked hard to help her children have an education and the confidence needed to go out into the world,' said Governor Holden. Mrs. Holden was born in Kansas City on February 5, 1927, to the late Ernest 'Pete' Laird and Beatrice Hinderliter Laird. She graduated from Rosedale High School in Kansas City in 1945 and assisted her father at Laird Brothers Commission Company, a cattle trading company at the Kansas City Stockyards, prior to her move to Birch Tree. She was active in the Town and Country Club, a local women's civic group, and served as Chairman of the Democratic Committee in Shannon County. She was a member of the Monday Night Bowling League, sponsored by Don Layman of Layman Lumber Company. She helped manage the Holden family farm, which has been in the Holden family for more than 100 years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Wanda Holden Scholarship Fund administered through the West Plains Bank of Mountain View to the attention of Joe Head. The scholarship will be awarded to a senior girl attending college from the Mountain View-Birch Tree School District area. Donations may also be made to a local hospice association. Services were held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Holden farm, off Route MM in Shannon County; with interment at the Corinth Cemetery in Shannon County. Visitation was Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Duncan Funeral Home in Mtn. View. Grandchildren are Robert Lee and John D. JERRY LEWIS HOLLIS, SR. 24 Oct 1924 - 05 Apr 2004

Jerry Lewis Hollis was born October 24, 1924, in Fremont, Mo. and passed away Monday, April 5, 2004 at his home in Winona. Upon his discharge from the United States Navy in 1946, he began a 30-year career with the Federal Government as an experimental Machinist at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. He was a resident of Vienna, Va., until his retirement in 1980, at which time he and his wife Marjorie returned to Missouri, settling in Winona. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his daughter, Ruth Anne Gates, of Bloxom, Va..; tow sons, Jerry L. Hollis, Jr., of Vienna, Va. and Paul S. Hollis, of Burleson, Tex.; tow sisters, Lucy Lindsey and Frances Thompson; one brother, Tom Hollis; five grandchildren, Tanni Wiersema, Michael Gates, Kristi Murphy, Zachary Hollis and Jacob Hollis; four great-grandchildren, Bryant Wiersema, Logan Wiersema, Sean Murphy and Kevin Murphy. He was a devoted husband to his wife Marjorie of 54 years, who preceded him in death. Jerry will always be remembered for his love and devotion to his family, who will miss him beyond measure. A celebration of his life was held Thursday, April 8 at Duncan Funeral Home in Winona, with Darrell Jones officiating. DERREK ROBERT HOLLOWAY - Born March 25, 2011 in Poplar Bluff, MO the son of Christopher Robert Holloway and Tiffiny Marie (Ray) Holloway. Elizabeth Ann Holloway, age 26, passed away Nov. 15, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington Fayette Co KY. She was born February 22, 1979 in Howell Co MO, the daughter of Kathy VOYLES and Richard Dean HOLLOWAY of Flemingsburg KY, both formerly of Winona Shannon Co MO. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Buddy Truman VOYLES, grandfather 'Roy' Raymond HOLLOWAY, grandmother Rosemary (MARTIN) HOLLOWAY, and uncle, Michael Eugene LEE. Surviving are her parents, Kathy and Dean; brother, Lucas; maternal grandmother, Cora (TOWNSEND) VOYLES; nephew, Landyn HOLLOWAY, uncles Greg and Donald VOYLES, aunt Roxanne (HOLLOWAY), uncle Pete HOLLOWAY, great aunt Lois (TOWNSEND) WEAVER, and many other relatives and friends. She was a very sweet caring person who loved animals; she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved this lovely young woman. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 19 at Duncan Funeral Home in Wynona, Mo. Burial was in Pine Lawn Cemetery in Winona under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home. NANCY LEE BREWER HOLLOWAY - Born August 6, 1942 at Pacific, Mo., the daughter of George Blueford Brewer and Violet Ruby (Shultz) Brewer. She passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, in Winona, Mo., at the age of 67 years. She was united in marriage to William “Joe” Holloway on Oct. 8, 1965, in Winona, Mo., and to this union, five children were born. Nancy was preceded in death by her father, George Brewer; Granny Shultz; two granddaughters, Natasha Bell and Amanda Nipper; and one grandson Brian Reed. She is survived by her husband, Joe Holloway of Winona, Mo.; three sons Ronnie Holloway and wife Karen of Winona, Mo., Terry Holloway and wife Annie of Winona, Mo., and Cleve Holloway and wife Alisha of Peace Valley, Mo.; two daughters Virginia May (Holloway) Reed and husband Dean of Thayer, Mo., and Bonnie Holloway and fiancé Courtney Gunter of Crider, Mo.; one stepson Eddie Nipper and wife Melinda of Winona, Mo.; mother Violet Brewer of Sullivan, Mo.; two brothers, Glen Brewer and wife Annette of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mike Brewer and wife Gail of Waco, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Margaret Nipper; 18 grandchildren Brittany Holloway, Jewell Holloway, Bobby Jo Holloway, Billy Joe Holloway, Nikki Holloway, Dustin Holloway, Brandon Holloway, Christina Stark, Justin McGlason, Devin Holloway, Heather Reed, Seth Holloway, Nathan Blanks, Amber Nipper, Wesley Nipper, Christina Nipper, Sabrina Wilbanks and husband Kyle and Eddie Nipper Jr.; five great-grandchildren Kinzey Stark, Brian Reed, Amanda Jones, Scottie Jewell and Natily Wilbanks; numerous other family and friends. ROY RAYMOND HOLLOWAY - Born September 1, 1923 at Winona, MO the son of Nancy HOLLOWAY and departed this life on July 6, 1988 at Mount Vernon Care Center in Springfield, MO at the age of 64 years. He was married on May 26, 1951 to Rosemary MARTIN at Salem, AR and to this union three children were born. He was preceded in death by his mother; his wife, Rosemary on December 24, 1981; and one brother, Raymond. He is survived by three sons, Pete HOLLOWAY of Battlefield, MO; Dean HOLLOWAY of Maysville, KY; and Eugene LEE of Willow Springs, MO; one daughter, Roxanne HOLLOWAY of Springfield, MO; two brothers, Donald VOYLES of Peoria, IL; and Melvin VOYLES of Desoto, MO; two sisters, Bonnie HOPKINS of Desoto, MO; and Lorene RISLING of the State of Illinois; and six grandchildren. Roy attended the Assembly of God church at Winona. He was a unique, quiet person who never wanted to burden anyone. If you were fortunate enough to receive a smile from him you would be blessed with a never ending love. Roy loved everyone. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 9, at 10 am in the Duncan Funeral Chapel at Winona with Marvin VALENTINE officiating. Interment was in Pine Lawn Cemetery at Winona under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home.  

PERRY EDWARD HOLLOWAY - Of Winston OR, died December 7, 1982. He was buried there Friday, December 10, 1982. He was 81 years, 11 months and 19 days old. He was the son of John and Nellie (COOLEY) HOLLOWAY. He was born January 17, 1901 in Shannon Co MO. He died in the hospital in Roseburg OR. He was married to Mary Adeline MARTIN in 1922. He leaves to mourn his passing six sons and one daughter, six daughters-in-law and one son-in-law, one brother, Charley HOLLOWAY of Winona MO and sister Meg BRESSLER of Winona MO; 27 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He accepted Christ at an early age and kept his faith by his daily life, his family, friends and neighbors as witness. Greatly loved and sadly missed by all. CLYDE  HONEYCUTT - Born May 21, 1904 near Alley Spring, the oldest of ten children of Allen and Mary (McCormac) Honeycutt.  He could remember when crops were grown where the park is now.  As a young man, he followed wheat harvest in Kansas, shucked corn in Nebraska and harvested potatoes in Idaho.  In later years, he worked in the timber in Colorado and Wyoming.  Clyde traveled into many of our states in an honest and honorable effort to earn a living. Clyde was saved during a revival meeting in the Birch Tree Baptist Church about 1950, and was a loyal and faithful servant of Christ.  His membership was in the Oak Grove Baptist Church of Salem. He was married to Zelda Millback and they had owned a small acreage near Salem, where he lived several years until he suffered a massive heart attack and passed away March 7, 1983 in the Salem Memorial Hospital at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 14 days. Clyde was preceded in death by a brother, Buster, in 1935; his dad in 1955; his mother in 1960; and another brother, Donald (Jody), in 1972. Surviving is one brother, Cleve, of Eminence and six sisters:  Nona Laxton of Springfield,  Seattle Archer of Cabool, Euzella Bradshaw of Oceanside, California, Kathleen Imburg of Riverside, California, Bonnie Noss of Elkhart, Indiana, and Beulah Vickery of Bismark, Missouri; three brother-in-laws, one sister-in-law, 15 nieces and nephews and their families. Memorial services were conducted by Rev. Fred Pulliam March 10, 1983 with burial at Munsell Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home.  

JAMES DALE HONEYCUTT - Age 71 of Fordland, MO, passed away January 7, 2007 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, MO, after a long illness. He was born February 18, 1935 at Winona, MO, the son of Everett Alvin Honeycutt and Anna Mae (Martin) Honeycutt. Dale was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dwayne Dale Honeycutt; three sisters, Mildred Lockman Cooley, Edna Honeycutt Martin, and infant sister, Eva Honeycutt; one brother, Kenneth Honeycutt; and two brothers-in-law, Donald Lockman and Theodore Cooley. He is survived by one son, David Honeycutt; one daughter, Marsha Staples and husband, Randy, of Springfield, MO; one brother, Ralph Honeycutt and wife, Vina, of Hutton Valley, MO; one sister, Reva Simpson and husband, Floyd, of West Plains, MO; four grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends who mourn his passing. Dale was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was employed several years by the U.S. Postal Service to carry the mail between Willow Springs and Van Buren. He was retired from Dayco in Springfield, MO. Dale loved to fish and hunt and be in the outdoors, especially the Current River and James River areas. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. MARY CATHERINE MCCORMAC HONEYCUTT - Born March 8, 1882, to John McCormac and America (Davis) McCormac and passed away January 24, 1960, at the age of 77 years, 10 months, and 16 days. She was married to Erasmus Allen Honeycutt and to this union was born 10 children. Her husband preceded her in death on October 7, 1955, and one son, Buster, preceded her in death in 1935. She is survived by nine children: Clyde of Granby, Colo., Cleve of Eminence; and Donald of Saratoga, Wyo.; Nona Laxton of Springfield; Seattle Archer of Cabool; Euzella Bradshaw of Springfield; Bonnie Noss of Elkhart, Ind., Kathleen Imburg of Riverside, Calif.; and Beulah Vickery of Germany. She first became ill in December and was taken to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield Christmas day. She improved to the extent that she was taken to the home of a daughter. She failed to respond to treatment and was returned to St. John’s Sunday afternoon, January 24, where she passed away at 6:30 P.M.  The deceased was a faithful wife and mother, tender and gentle in her kind and loving way. Though she was not a member of any church, those who were close to her knew her faith . . .(the rest is missing) 

LELAH 'MARY LEE' SCONCE HONEYCUTT - Born near Eminence, MO on February 12, 1924, one of nine children, two of whom died in infancy. Her parents were William Wesley Sconce and Lula Pearl Prince Sconce, and the seven kids were: Oral, Otho, Raymond, Mary Lee, Johny, Lucille and Jesse. All seven graduated from Eminence High School. She went to be with the Lord on April 5, 2010. As a young lady, Mary Lee was employed at a local café, Farm Security Administration Office and the Post Office. She was married to Cleve Honeycutt, a disabled veteran of World War II, on December 21, 1944. They had one daughter, Lula Kathryn. After Cleve and Mary Lee married, she worked for three years at Angelica Uniform Company and a short time at Prairie Hollow Enterprises. In 1958 she was employed by the Eminence School Board of Education as secretary to the Superintendent of School and Bookkeeper, enjoying that position for 31 years. She retired in 1989. She loved the school kids and took great pride in the school and loved to go to the ballgames and root for good old EHS. Kathryn married Alvin Bressler, and their children are Scott, Bruce and Corrie. Mary Lee leaves to mourn her passing daughter Kathryn and husband Alvin Bressler, grand children Scott and wife Amilee, Bruce and wife Jade, and Corrie and husband Chris Mahan; great grandchildren Halee, Audrey and Arlee Honeycutt, Carter, Katie and Drew Honeycutt, and Makenna and Kylie Mahan; her brother, Johny and wife Wandalea, her sister, Lucille and husband Wayne Hoffer, sisters-in law, Biddy, Reva and Hinako Sconce, Honeycutt in-laws and many nieces and nephews. Mary Lee accepted Jesus as her savior and was Baptized June 15, 1952. She was active in Eminence First Baptist Church as a Sunday School teacher, Church Clerk and WMU President. She loved music and loved to hear Alvin and Kathryn and their family sing. She spent the last 6 years at Birch Tree Place Nursing Center, where they gave her much love and great care. She yodeled for them often, entertaining them with her special charm. Mary Lee will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral Services were held Thursday, April 8, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Eminence, MO with Rev. Johny Sconce and Rev. Sam Upton officiating. Interment was in Munsell Chapel Cemetery in Eminence, MO under the direction of Duncan Funeral Homes.

ARLENE HOOVER - Born on June 23, 1912 to Walter A. and Addie Findley Hoover in Mountain View, Missouri. She passed away on January 20, 2006 at Mountain View Health Care in Mountain View, Missouri at 93 years of age. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter E. and Addie Findley Hoover; three brothers, Owen Hoover, Wade Hoover and Ed Hoover; one sister Mable Baskett, and one nephew James W. Hoover. Arlene is survived by several nieces and nephews. Arlene taught school locally and in the surrounding areas for 43 years. She was a charter member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Willow Springs, Missouri. Funeral services were held Monday, January 23, 2006 at 2pm at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Mountain View, Missouri with Scott Williamson officiating. ORVAL HOOVER - Age 65, Winona, an employee of Frisco Railway here for many years, died Monday morning at St. John’s Hospital.  He is survived by his wife, Ollie; two daughters, Evelyn of the home and Mrs. Mary Kathryn Price of Marquette, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Neil Williams of Springfield; three brothers, Gus of Colorado, James of Centralia, Wash., and Ed of Dallas, Ore.  Funeral services will be held in Winona Christian Church at 1 p.m. today, with burial there.

BETTY FAYE HOUSTON HOUSE - Daughter of Ray HOUSTON and Stella (MCCALLISTER) HOUSTON, was born July 18, 1935 in Summersville MO, and passed away at the Mountain View Healthcare Center in Mountain View MO on Thursday morning, March 16, 2006, at the age of 70. Betty was united in marriage to Donald Franklin HOUSE on December 24, 1952. She was the loving mother of Karen, Michael and Christine. Don and Betty made their home and raised there family in Crestwood St Louis Co MO for 36 years. They retired to Summersville in 1996. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Stella HOUSTON. Surviving are her husband, Don HOUSE, Summersville MO; daughter Karen LURASCHI and husband Charles, Kirkwood St Louis Co MO; son Michael HOUSE and wife Anne, Fenton St Louis Co MO, and daughter Christine FINNEGAN and husband Joe, Crestwood St Louis Co MO; grandchildren Charles, Donald, Kelly, Mitchell, Loren and Joshua; and great grandchildren Laura, Madeline and Jaxon. Betty was the beloved sister of Bob HOUSTON, West Plains Howell Co MO, and Bonne BROWN, Summersville MO; a dear aunt, great aunt and friend to many. SYLVIA MELVENA HOWARD - Age 100, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2005. She was born on April 24, 1905 in Van Buren Carter Co MO. Sylvia’s family said she lived a long, productive, eventful life. From humble beginnings in the Ozark Mountains of Southern Missouri, she taught school in a one-room schoolhouse at age 17; married her husband, William, at 19, and bore him four sons and a daughter. During The Great Depression, she worked several jobs, primarily as a seamstress, to augment the family income. During the Second World War, Sylvia and her husband both worked at the Kaiser Shipyards in Richmond CA, building liberty ships for the war effort, while son, William, Jr., served in the Navy and son Donald served in the Merchant Marines. After the war ended in 1945 the family moved back to Venice IL where they resided until 1957. Sylvia and William then owned and operated a Laundromat in Riverside CA, until William passed away in 1966. In 1974 Sylvia moved to Lake Havasu City AZ, to be near her son William and daughter Shirley. She was preceded in death by her husband, William N. HOWARD, sons William N. HOWARD, II, and Donald N. HOWARD, plus the many family members and friends who went on before. Sylvia is survived by sons Franklin D. (Jan) HOWARD of Glendale, and David E. (Margaret) HOWARD, Sr., of Lake Havasu City AZ; daughter, Shirley R. (Elmer) DIAL of Lake Havasu City AZ; daughters-in-law Clova HOWARD of Granite City IL, and Mary Lou HOWARD of Bradenton FL; 19 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren. She will be sorely missed. A visitation was held Monday evening, June 27, at Lietz-Fraze Chapel. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 28 at First Southern Baptist Church. Burial took place at Olive Wood Cemetery near Riverside CA beside her beloved husband William. WILLIAM LEE 'BILL' HOWARD - Born November 15, 1936 in Staunton, IN the son of Lee Howard and Kathleen (Lawson) Howard and departed his life on May 16, 2010 at St. John's St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View, MO at the age of 73 years. He was united in marriage to Melva Hutcheson on January 6, 1959 in Brazil, IN and to this union 3 children were born.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Kathleen Howard. He is survived by his wife Melva Howard of Alton, MO; two sons Lee E. Howard of Eminence, MO and Dennis E. Howard and wife Renne of Eminence, MO; one daughter Julie Hartman and husband Buck of Bunker, MO; one brother Olin Howard and wife Shirley of Ogden, UT; one sister Beverly Nield and husband David of Layton, UT; 5 grandchildren Christopher Lee Howard, William Scott Howard, Ian Dawson, Rachel Jean Lentz-Butler and husband Kevin and William Joseph Hartman; a host of other family and friends.  Bill enjoyed fighting chickens, hunting and fishing. He loved raising tropical fish. He also enjoyed playing computer games, swapping knives and listening to blue grass music. Most of all Bill loved having his family around. BRADLEY VERNON 'BRAD' HOWELL 12 Nov 1962 - 20 Feb 2005		Bradley Vernon Howell was born Nov. 12, 1962, in Poplar Bluff, MO., to Vernon and Donna HOWELL. Being the first child of Vernon and Donna and the first grandchild on both sides of the family, he was the darling of his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and as he grew older, he acquired several honorary grandmas, including Barbara YEARWOOD, Lois BARKLEY and Sophia LESLIE. When he was only three years old, he began spending many weekends with his Grandpa Harry at the cabin on the river. He learned to fish, and later, to run the motorboat. I don’t know who was more proud of this, Brad or Grandpa Harry. One of Brad’s happiest summers was when Cousin Paul came to stay for a week while his parents went on vacation. Aunt Margie, being from the city, was horrified when he came to pick Paul up, to discover her city son in overalls. However, she soon decided that the country life was O.K. In school, Brad developed a love for baseball, starting with Little League and going on to high school, where his team won a district championship for the first time in many years. Brad also played basketball, but his love for baseball continued after graduation, and he played softball with the local team for several years. Uncle Chester taught Brad his welding skills, and he was employed as a welder for several years and later as a truck driver. He was married to Dana GRAY in 1996, accepting her two children, Sarah and Ethan, as his own and bringing great joy to Ma and Pa and Aunt Jenni. Brad began his life as a loving child and a caring, giving young adult. Somewhere along the way, he became lost, despite all the support from his family and friends, including two very special friends, Mike KILE and Robbie DOUGLAS. He punished his body with alcohol until it could take no more. Brad left this life Feb. 20, 2005. He leaves to mourn his parents, sister and brother-in-law; Jenni and Steven CONNER; his step- children, Sara and Ethan DAILEY, aunt Sharon and uncle Tom REX; uncle Gary and aunt Bev HOLLIS; aunt Carolyn HOWELL; grandpa Otto and grandma Lilli FOUST; several great uncles and aunts; numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, uncle Chester HOWELL and an infant brother. Our hope is that his family and friends will soon be able to look back and remember the happier times, to let go of the bad and pray that God will take him in his arms and give him the comfort for which he was looking. CHESTER LAVERN 'CHET' HOWELL 18 Jun 1943 - 15 Sep 2001		Chester Lavern 'Chet' Howell was born June 18, 1943, to Mildred Fern BRAWLEY and Charles Chester HOWELL. He departed this life September 15, 2001, at 11:08 AM at Cox South in Springfield, MO, at the age of 58 years and 89 days. He is preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Allen Chester HOWELL. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Jewell BLAND on November 25, 1967. To this union two children were born, Mary Fern and Angela. He leaves to mourn his wife of 33 years Carolyn of the home in Mountain View, MO; daughter, Mary and her husband Doug JANTZ of Springfield, MO; daughter Angela and her husband David LEDGERWOOD of Mountain View, MO; five grandchildren, Brett Cody HOWELL, Sara Beth BREWER, Alexis JANTZ, Kassidy Bryce LEDGERWOOD and Kolbe Stewart LEDGERWOOD; one brother, Vernon HOWELL and his wife Donna (HOLLIS) of Winona, MO; niece Jennifer (HOWELL) CONNER of Willow Springs, MO; one nephew, Brad HOWELL of Winona, MO; three special cousins who Chester considered more like his brothers and sisters, Lee Richard BRAWLEY of Sedalia, MO, Gary HOWELL of Springfield, MO, and Dorothy Ellen (BRAWLEY) BROOKS of Winona; and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family members. Chester worked for many years in construction, traveling both in and out of the United States for Nooter Corporation and Murphy Company. In 1978 he quit working and traveling to start his own business in Winona, in his words 'it spend time with his family”. He continued there until 1988. He served the US Army in the 101st Airborne division from 1965-1967. He was a member of the Winona Lions Club, a Mason, Amvets post #127 of Mountain View, VFW Post 2191 and a school board member. Chester fought a brave battle with cancer and always kept a positive attitude saying 'it might get me, but not without a fight.” Doctors and nurses alike sat in amazement at his will and strength. Surpassing what they thought on a daily basis. Woodworking was his favorite hobby and he made many beautiful pieces of furniture. Chester left this life with his wife and girls holding his hands, never leaving his side. His passing leaves a deep void in those closest to him. Never to be filled until we can all be together again. Until that day we will continue to remember and honor his memory as a great friend and brother, and in knowing his wife, children, and grandchildren meant everything in this life to him. He will be sadly missed by many Funeral services were held at 1 PM Tuesday, September 18, 2001, at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Winona with Brian YORK officiating. THELA ALMA SHERRELL HOWELL - Born Feb. 4, 1923 in Shannon County to Bert Sherrell and Ethel (CRAFT) SHERRELL. Thela passed away at her home Friday morning, August 2, 2002, making her age 79 years, six months. Thela was united in marriage to Walter Fred HOWELL on April 6, 1941. To this union seven children were born: Beverly, Brenda, Barbara, Freddie, Michael, William and Patricia. She was a faithful and dedicated member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Eminence. She was a very loving mother that devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. She always had a kind and loving smile for all her loved ones. Thela was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter, and one sister, Marjorie (CAMPBELL) CLOUSE. Surviving are her children, Beverly GILL and husband Chuck of St. Louis, MO; Brenda HOWELL of St. Louis, MO; Barbara HENRY and husband Glen of St. Louis, MO; Freddie HOWELL of Eminence; Michael HOWELL and wife Norma of Eminence; William HOWELL and wife Sharon of Ilion, New York; Patricia DEAN and Bill of St. Louis, MO; 13 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren. Thela is also survived by a special niece and nephew, Wanda (CAMPBELL) BLUNKALL of Eminence and Roger CAMPBELL of Frankfurt KY; and special friend and caretaker, Wendy SPURGEON, who is like a family member to Thela, is also left to mourn her passing. Services were held on Sunday, August 4, at the Church of God of Prophecy in Eminence with Rev. Bud YOUNGER officiating. Interment was in Pilgrim Rest Cemetery, Timber, MO. Arrangements were under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home of Summersville. 

 

MILLIE RICHARDSON HUDDLESTON - Age 85, Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Thomasville, died yesterday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. S.E. Droshin of Memphis, Tenn.  Mrs. Huddleston was a sister of Mrs. Roy Adams and aunt of Mrs. Fred Riley, Mrs. Everett Ball, Mrs. Ralph Hawkins, Paul Penn, David Penn, Pug Richardson, Arthur Richardson, Earl Kellett and Mrs. Cecile Bonham, all of West Plains.  Mrs. Huddleston was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Richardson of West Plains.  Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon in the Carter Chapel here.  Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of West Plains.   

 

ANNIAS POWHATTEN HUDSON - Born March 22, 1849 in Randolph County, Arkansas, son of Edward HUDSON Jr. and Sarah Ann Frances (WATSON) HUDSON. He was united in marriage August 20, 1874, Oregon County, Missouri, to Virginia Josephine Gallahar. To this union four children were born, only one living past infancy, Alice Dorinda HUDSON. His wife and Alice preceded him in death. He married November 11, 1884 in Travis County Texas, Samantha Paralee ATTERBURY, to this union two children were born: Jesse Alene HUDSON and Annis P. HUDSON. JANIE EVELYN BLAND HUETT - Born May 23, 1932 at Ellington Reynolds Co MO the daughter of Richard Bland and Minnie Elizabeth (McDannel) Bland. She passed away May 22, 2010 at Kansas City, MO at the age of 77 years. She was united in marriage to Albert K. 'Tinker' Huett on January 12, 1952 in Salem, AR and to this union two daughters were born. Janie was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Minnie Bland; husband Albert 'Tinker' Huett and twelve siblings. She is survived by her two daughters Teresa Myers and husband Jay of Dittmer, MO and Beverly McLean and husband Robert of Green Ridge, MO; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends. Janie was an active member of the Assembly of God in Windson, MO for the past five years. She had previously been a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Winona for 45 years. She loved spending time with her family as well as collecting photos of them. She took exceptional care of her family, including several siblings after her mother's passing. Janie will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Winona, MO with Rev. Gene Ekstrand officiating. Interment was in Mount Zion Cemetery under the direction of Duncan Funeral Homes. 

 

FRANK CRAGLE HUFFMAN - Born March 27, 1915 in Summersville, MO a son to Newt and Mattie May (nee Cragle)  Huffman.  He died June 25, 2011 at the Villa's Skilled Nursing Center at the age of 96.  He is survived by his wife Bessie Lou (nee Cole) Huffman who he married Aug. 7, 1946.  Other survivors include two daughters: Stella (Randy) Hyde, Imperial and Virginia 'Ginger' (Mark) Blake, Derby KS; one son: Edgar (Karen) Huffman, De Soto; six grandchildren, Andrew Huffman, Amy (Dan) Hickman, Bob (Lisa) Mira, Becky (Chad) Revelle, Jessica (Joe) Simmons, Laura Blake; nine great-grandchildren,  Wyatt & Carson Hickman, Alec & Molly Huffman, Brittany & Bethany Mira, Parker & Jackson Revelle, Peyton Simmons; and one sister: Ruth Pratt.  Mr. Huffman is also survived by dear friends Bud and Ruby Britton.  He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister: Mary Koller and four brothers: Elba, Claude, Carl and Delmar Huffman.  He was a life long farmer, served in the United States Army during World War II, and a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to St. Andrew's United Methodist Church or St. Jude's Hospital for Children. Pastor Darlene Payne will officiate the service with interment with military honors to follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery.

 

NANCY ELIZABETH NORTON WEAVER HUGON - Daughter of James and Missouri (WHITWORTH) NORTON was born July 10, 1868 in Shannon Co MO and departed from this life September 2, 1938 at her home in Frankston TX. She was united in marriage to George B. WEAVER December 23, 1888; to this union three children were born: L.O. and F.B. WEAVER, and a daughter, Willia, who died in infancy. Her husband, G. B. WEAVER, preceded her in death July 17, 1928. She was united in marriage May 3, 1933 to J. R. HUGON of Franklin TX who have her the utmost care and loving kindness during her long period of illness. She professed faith in Christ and joined the Christian Church early in life and lived a devoted Christian life. Her faith in Christ gave her courage and patience to endure her suffering, which the best of medical aid and excellent nursing could not relieve. She leaves to mourn her parting her husband, J. R. HUGON, Two sons, L. O. and F. B. WEAVER, two sisters, Emma WEAVER and Cora SMITH, one brother, Frank NORTON, eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. FREEMAN ANDERSON HUGHES - Born October 31, 1897 in the Pummill House on Main  Street of Eminence, MO, the third son of James Calvin and Mary Jane (Jennie) Kyle Hughes and departed this life August 13, 1990 in the St. John's Regional Center in Springfield, MO at the age of 92 years, 9 months and 13 days. Freeman worked and attended school at interval periods, graduating from Winona High School at the age of 33 years.  He continued his education through correspondence courses. On May, 22, 1923 he was united in marriage to Bessie Margaret Smith at Eminence, and to this union three sons were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jennie; and four brothers. He is survived by three sons; Frank Hughes of Eminence; John Leroy Hughes of Coal Valley, IL; and Jim Rex Hughes of Daytona Beach, FL; one brother, Jim Hughes of Columbia, MO; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. Freeman taught for two years in the rural school system, but was a life long farmer in Shannon County. He was a stern but loving parent, he remained active until the time of his death. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 15 at 2 pm at the Duncan Funeral Home in Eminence with Rev. Lloyd Welch officiating.  Burial was in New Eminence Cemetery under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home of Eminence, MO. 

 

BESSIE MARGARET SMITH HUGHES - 23 Feb 1883- 29 Oct 1962 - Mrs. Freeman Hughes was taken to the Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston on Wednesday of last week, and passed away early Monday morning, October 29. She had suffered from a diabetic condition for some time and had other complications.  Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Eminence Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Raymond Sconce officiating, assisted by Rev. V.W. Bucher.  The Duncan Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements, with interment in the New Eminence Cemetery.

 

JEREMIAH HUGHES-STRINGER - Son of Melody Renee Stringer and Jeffrey Alan Hughes was born May 31, 2002 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO. Jeremiah went to Heaven, Thursday, September 20th, 2007, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, MO making his age 5 years 3 months and 19 days. Jeremiah attended Eminence Grade School, he was in Mrs. Tammie's kindergarten class. He was proud of his stars that he earned at school for good behavior. His favorite past times were riding his bicycle, playing Power Rangers and Spider Man, acting like a hero. He loved to fish with his Papa Doug. Jeremiah is preceded in death by his uncle Jeffrey Stringer, great grandparents, Jeff and Eva Stringer, Raymond and Ruby Rose. Jeremiah is survived by his mother Melody Stringer of Eminence, MO; father Jeffrey Alan Hughes of the State of Wisconsin, one brother Jacob Alan Hughes of Montgomery City, MO; grand parents, Sue (Rose) Moerbe and husband David of Eminence, MO; Doug and Gail Stringer of Hartshorn, MO; and Jerry and Judie Hughes of New Florence, MO; also a host of great uncles, great aunts, and a host of family members who loved him. MILDRED PAULINE JONES CORY HUGHES - Born September 15, 1926 near Summersville MO to Elmer and Alice (TUTTLE) JONES. She passed away April 22, 1996 at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield MO at the age of 69. In 1942 she married Russell Wayne CORY. He preceded her in death in 1950. She was then united in marriage to Raymond HUGHES on March 12, 1951 in Dearborn IN> Mildred is also preceded in death by her father, one infant brother and one grandson, Raymond KELLER. She is survived by her husband Raymond, Birch Tree MO; three sons, Elmer CORY, Millstadt IL; Dennis CORY, High Ridge MO; Thomas HUGHES, Cedar Hill MO; five daughters, Shirley WOOLSEY, Arnold MO; Catherine KELLER, Pinckneyville IL; Mildred HARRIS, House Springs MO; Mary BROWN, Bloomsdale MO; Alice BEQUETTE, Cedar Hill MO; her mother, Alice JONES, Birch Tree MO; one sister-in-law, Alice May HUGHES, Roseville MI; three sisters, Dorothy ALLEN, Betty WOODS, Vivian LEDGERWOOD, all of Birch Tree MO; 23 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mildred was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was also the past Chaplain at the Arnold Lions Club, and a member of the VFW in Summersville, She loved to pain and crochet, and she loved her family dearly. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 1996 at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Birch Tree. OPAL LORENE REARY HUGHES - A long time local resident, daughter of Alexander and Lydia (TABOR) REARY, died October 31, 1998 in Dallas TX at the age of 85. Born March 15, 1913, she attended Eminence schools, graduating from high school in 1931, and attended Springfield Missouri Teacher's College. She married Eugene POWELL of Eminence who was active in construction work. They lived in Springfield, Kansas City and in Illinois. During World War II she taught at Shannon County one-room schools while her husband served in the army. After the war she, her husband and her brother, Jerry 'Babe' REAARY, purchased and operated the Pull Tight Campground on the Current River. Later, after her husband died and the Federal Government bought the campground, opal managed the Duncan Funeral Home in Eminence. She married Burton HUGHES of Salem MO on June 29, 1974 and they ran a small cattle operation at Custer MO. They later moved to Salem where they lived until January, 1993 when they moved to Dallas to be near their grandchildren. Opal suffered from Parkinson's Disease. She remained a member of the Salem United Methodist Church until her death. She is survived by her husband, Burton HUGHES, Dallas, TX; two brothers, Ralph REARY, Eminence, and Howard REARY, Bourbon MO; three sisters, Helen DUNCAN and Myrtle DEWEESE, Mountain View MO, and Eunice MATTES of Kansas City MO; stepson and daughter-in-law, Tom and Joan HUGHES, Virginia Beach, VA; two grandchildren, Kendall BRACKET, Virginia Beach VA, and Craig HUGHES, Alexandria VA; and two great-grandchildren, Danika and Landon BRACKETT. Preceding her in death were her parents and brothers, Babe and Frank. All who knew Opal will long remember her rare beauty, intelligence and quiet charm. Memorial services for Opal Lorene HUGHES were held November 21, 1998 in the Salem United Methodist Church in Salem MO with Rev. Jeff SPAULDING and Rev. Clark LEONARD officiating. John CASEY provided special music. WILBUR DALE HUITT - Born January 13, 1934 in Winona, Missouri. He departed this life May 28, 1954.  Dale confessed his faith in Christ and was baptized at the age of nine, in Dallas, Texas.  He went to school in Winona, graduating with the class of 1951. Later he attended the University of Missouri and Springfield Teachers College. He enlisted in the Air Force in September 1953.  He was one of a family of seven children, two sisters, Dorthea and Genevieve preceded him in death. Left with hearts heavy and sorrowful because of the great loss are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Esco Huitt of Winona, three sisters, Pauline, Edith and Eva, one brother, Leslie all of Texas. A number of other relatives and many friends.  Military funeral services were held at Winona Christian Church on Thursday, June 3, 1954, at 2:00 p.m. Officiating were Rev. Sigler, Rev. Huitt and Chaplain Frank S. Wilfinger.

 

BILLY D. 'BILL' HUNT - Age 63, of Mitchell, Ill., (formerly of Mountain View, Mo.), born Dec. 3, 1945, in Springfield, Mo., passed away at 6:48 pm. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, in Belleville, Ill. Bill was a driver for Riechmann Trucking and retired in 2001. He enjoyed motorcycling and boating. His parents, Elmer and Goldie Hunt, preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Kathy, whom he married in September 2006; his daughters, Sherri Hunt, of Springfield, Mo., Angela Mathis of Granite City, Ill., and Cori Naler of Japan; his sister, Beverly Murphy, of Mountain View, Mo., and other extended family and friends. Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at Irwin Chapel in Belleville, Ill. Graveside services were held Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Glen Carbon, Ill.

 

CLIFFORD W. 'MUTT' HUNT - Born February 25, 1935, in Eminence, to Charles Hunt and Helen B. Ferguson (Hunt) Thompson. Clifford passed away April 7, 2004, at the home in Birch Tree at the age of 69 years. Clifford was first married to Peggy Ann West (Hunt) on October 4, 1954 and five children were born to this union. Clifford later united in marriage to Melba Fern Hanchey (with four step children). Clifford is preceded in death by his father, two brothers and his first wife. Clifford is survived by his mother, Helen Thompson; one son, Clifford Scott Hunt, of Winona; four daughters, Kathy Bay, of Union, Mo., Janet Farris, of Winona, Camilla 'Millie' Osbourne, of Winona, and Jennifer Sanders, of Winona; three sisters, Shelby Bray, of Birch Tree, Barbara Rosson, of Birch Tree, and Georgia FayBay of Birch Tree; one half-brother, Charles Warner, of Romona, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Clifford accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, March of 2001. Clifford was a member of Masonic Lodge #607. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 9 at Duncan Funeral Chapel in Eminence, with Jack Honeycutt officiating. GILBERT ANSEL 'DICK' HUNT - Born May 9, 1924 at Jacks Fork, Mo.  The son of  Clifford and Edith Smith Hunt and departed this life on February 19, 1987 at his home on Rocky Creek at the age of 62 years and 9 months. He was united in marriage to Marilin Jean Dumas on September 25, 1965. He served in the Army during World War II.  He was retired from truck driving and was currently employed at the Masonic Lodge in Eminence, Mo.  He is survived by his wife, Marilin Jean of the home; one daughter, Sherry Elaine Hunt of Steelville, Mo; four step-sons; Ronnie Dumas of Florissant, Mo;  Jack Dumas of St. Louis, Mo;  Danny Dumas of Eminence, Mo; and Larry Dumas of Fenton, Mo; one brother, Stanford Hunt of St. Louis, MO; three sisters; Wanda Ipock of Eminence, Mo; Bette Ipock of Herculaneum, Mo and Roxie Robinson of Arroll, Mo; 14 grandchildren; five aunts; one uncle; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers:  Yandall and Freeman. Gilbert was loved by all and will be missed very much. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 21 at 1 pm in the Duncan Funeral Chapel at Eminence with Rev. Lloyd Welch officiating.  Burial was in the Bethany Cemetery under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home of Eminence.  

LARRY YANDALL HUNT - Born on October 3, 1946 in St. Louis, MO the son of the late Yandall Hunt and Mabel Hunt and departed this life on May 15,  1992 at St. Joseph Medical Center at Kansas City at the age of 45 years. He was preceded in death by his father in 1966. He is survived by his mother, Mabel Hunt of Raymore, Missouri and his uncle Gene O'Dell of Winona, MO, and Yandall's sisters, Betty, Wanda, Roxie and brother Stan.  Larry graduated at Winona High School, then attended University of Missouri and CMSU in Warrensburg, Missouri.  He entered military service in 1965 and after graduating from OCS at Fort Benning, Georgia, he served in Vietnam in 1967 - 1968. Larry was a manager of Stephenson's Restaurant in Kansas City,  Missouri for a period of time before joining Strouds Restaurant in 1977 where he worked as a manager until his death. Larry's love of family, friends and life endeared him to everyone with whom he came in contact.  His love for sports gave him a chance to meet and know many prominent people - especially with Strouds, Mike Donegan, Robert Casey and Jim Hogan. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 19, at 1 pm at the Winona Christian Church with Rev. Glen Hampton officiating.  Interment was in Bethany Cemetery under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home of Mountain View, Missouri.  

 

MABEL ALTA LEE O'DELL HUNT - Born December 2, 1920, the daughter of Ruth Wright O'Dell and  Ben O'Dell.  She departed this life on Sunday, August 28, 1994 at the age of 73. She was married to Clifford Yandall Hunt in February 1941.  To this union one son, Larry Yandall Hunt was born. She was preceded in death by her husband Yandall, her son Larry, and her mother and father. She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Gennie O'Dell of Winona, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mabel began her teaching carreer at Vann School near Winona.  She then taught at the Winona School System and the Peculiar School System until her retirement, when she moved back to Winona to be near family.

Yandall Clifford Hunt was the son of George 'Clifford' Hunt and Edith O. Smith. He married Mabel Alta Lee O'Dell (above.) Father of Larry Yandall Hunt. He was superintendent of schools at Winona.

 

 

DARRELL 'WALLY GATOR' HURT - Born May 12, 1948 in Springfield MO, to the late Norman S. HURT and Florence (JORDAN) HURT, and departed this life at his home in Marrero LA on Sunday, June 19, 2005, after a massive heart attack. He graduated from Summersville High School in 1966. He served in the army during the Viet Nam War and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Wally was carpenter for U. S. Joiner, with a supervisory position. He loved all sports, including his own bowling and fantasy football leagues. Wally was native of Summersville MO. He had resided in Louisiana for the past 34 years. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia (WILLIAMS) HURT, of the home; two sons, Scott and Blake HURT; three daughters, Dawn, Sheryn and Stephanie HURT; three granddaughters, Kiery, Elise and Mikayla HURT, all of Marrero LA; sister, Vivian YANDELL and niece Kim BRIGGS, of Hartshorn MO; aunt Inez (HURT) MILLER and husband Roland of Summersville; uncle Ervin HURT and wife Christ, Granite City IL; a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews and life-long friends. He will be truly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 23, 2005 at Moth Funeral Home in Marrero LA. ANDREA FAYE STOOPS HUTCHINGS - Born February 12, 1954 to Andy and Josephine (ROARK) STOOPS at Summersville MO. She passed away on January 15, 2006, at Summersville MO at the age of 51 years. Andrea was united in marriage to Kirk HUTCHINGS on October 7, 1998 at Salem AR. She is survived by her parents, of Summerville; one daughter, Sunny COOK, Summersville; three brothers, Ronnie and wife Debbie; Roger and wife Dottie; and Rocky and wife Vicki, all of Summersville MO; one grandson, Seth COOK, Summersville; nieces and nephews Shay RONNA, Peoria IL; Shannon STOOPS, Kansas City MO; Michael, Rodney, Logan and Levi STOOPS, all of Summersville MO; and eight great nieces and nephews. She loved horseback riding and being outdoors, but most of all she loved spoiling her grandson. Andrea will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Mountain View MO on January 18, 2006, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at the Bethel Church in Summersville MO with Gary STEELMAN officiating. FRANKLIN DEFOREST 'FRANK' HYDE - Frank Hyde died peacefully on February 26, 2011. He was born on January 19, 1924 to William E. and Ruby Hyde in Eminence, MO. He served in the US Army during World War II, and joined the United States Foreign Service in 1948. He married his wife, Edith, in 1950, in Bremen Germany. During his tenure in the Foreign Service, he held posts in Turkey, Israel, Cuba, Ethiopia, Japan, the French Congo, Central African Republic, Costa Rica, South Africa and Washington DC. He retired with the rank of Consul in 1974. After retirement Frank and Edith lived for many years in Lebanon Mo, where they made many friends, and where he was active in Kiwanis. He was a 30+ year member of the Sinim Lodge. They moved to Lee's Summit, MO in 2008 to be nearer their daughters. Frank is survived by his widow, Edith, his brother W. Dale Hyde, his daughter Karen Sundberg and son-in law Glenn of Independence, MO; his daughter Susan Cox and son-in-law Ted of Lee's Summit MO; grandchildren Tanya Sundberg Hughes and husband Jonathan, W. Jamie Cox, Teresa Bise and husband Charles, and W. Evan Cox; lots of great-grandchildren; and Toby, his beloved dog. He has asked for no funeral or memorial service. Although by nature reserved and deliberate in his speech and actions, he will be remembered for his biting sense of humor and unselfish, loving heart. Rest in peace. We will miss you.
