BOOKS AND ITEMS THAT CAN BE ORDERED
We put out a 24 page newsletter bi-monthly. We have books, microfilm
and will look up information about Scott County, Mo. We only charge for copies
and would like a stamped self-addressed envelope (most of the time $2.00
will cover the copies), if we find the cost will be more we will let them
know ahead of time.We would like to use our findings on the research projects
we do for others in our newsletter, and books we print for sale. The cost
to join the Society is $10.00 for reg. $15.00 sustaining, or $100.00 life
time. The membership goes from the month you join, not by the first of the
year, unless you would like all back issues for the year. Our newsletter
does have an index in each issue. We do have the Commerce Museum open the
third full weekend of every month, and we are co-sponsoring two big events
this year; The Civil War Encampment, on the last weekend of April, and the
Crowley's Ridge Rendezvous, on the second weekend of October. The Society
has taken on a project of cleaning and maintaining the old cemetery in Commerce
aka Anderson Cemetery aka the Commerce Cemetery aka the Old Hill Cemetery.
It was overgrown with vines and trees and we have about 1/3 of it cleared.
Over 800 people were buried there. We are starting a fund to pay for the
maintenance of the cemetery. We have $2,000.00 in it now and hope to double
that amount this year. We would like to have a web page but can not afford
it at this time. We also have books for sale by various authors, on Scott
County and people and places. If someone would like a list of the books,
they can send a stamped self-addressed envelope to us and we will send them
a copy of our list and prices. We do reserve the right to make a little on
the items we sell, so we can do other projects.
