Third Missouri Cavalry

John Montgomery Glover (1822-1891) served as colonel of the Third Regiment, Missouri Volunteer Cavalry, from September 4, 1861, until February 23, 1864, when he resigned on account of impaired health. After the war he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-third, Forty-fourth, and Forty-fifth Congresses (March 4, 1873-March 3, 1879). He died near Newark, Knox County, Mo., November 15, 1891, with interment on his farm near Newark, Mo. Later he was reinterred at Woodland Cemetery, Quincy, Ill.
