EXCELLENT AND VERY INTERESTING SPEAKER ADDRESSES FALL DINNER

Mr. Dixon, a nationally recognized expert and speaker on the subject of African Americans in sports, spoke on "Dangerfield Talbert of Platte County and the Negro Baseball Leagues". Mr. Dixon is also a co-founder of the Negro Baseball Leagues Museum in Kansas City.

ALLEN YORK RECEIVES 2017 BETTY SOPER AWARD

Alan W. York, PCHS Treasurer, of Weatherby Lake is the 2017 recipient of the Betty Soper Historical Award. The honor was presented at the annual fall dinner meeting of the Platte County Historical Society (PCHS) on Sunday, Oct. 22. The award is presented annually by PCHS to a Platte Countian who demonstrates outstanding service, dedication and commitment in preserving the history, architecture and genealogy of Platte County, Mo. Alan has served as the Treasurer for PCHS since 2014, and has distinguished himself in that role, according to Ken Klamm, PCHS Vice President, who was host of the fall dinner meeting. Prior to serving as treasurer, Alan was PCHS vice president for three years. Alan grew up in Platte City and has always lived in Platte County, graduating from Platte City High School in 1978 as the class valedictorian. Alan graduated from UMKC with a Master's Degree in Finance& Business. Alan is married to Paula in 1991. He mowed yards for many citizens in Platte City while he was growing up. Alan has lived in Weatherby Lake for the past 20 years, also serving as mayor for two terms. Alan was active in The Boy Scouts of America and achieved Eagle Scout status in high school.
