SPEAKER'S BUREAU


Members of our Chapter are available to present programs to school groups or club meetings. Below are currently available programs with a brief description and contact information. Availability may depend on the location and date requested. For questions or to schedule, contact the presenter listed in the description.


"Behind The Scenes Of The American Revolution" 45 to 50 mins. Includes history of the Pledge of Allegiance, some comments on battle strategy, causes of the Revolution, and a trivia contest. At least one presenter will wear Revolutionary uniform. Can display period weapons. Suitable for middle school and up. Team presentation. Contact: Loren Reynolds


"Battle Of Glasgow" 50 to 60 mins. A history of the Civil War battle at Glasgow, MO. and associated events. Includes discussion of GEN Sterling Price. Slide show presentation with live narration. All ages. Contact: J. Y. Miller


"Clothing And Uniforms Of The Revolution" 60 minutes. A presentation of the clothing used during the American Revolution. Presenters will wear period clothing and will dress a number of the audience in period clothing and uniforms of the Revolutionary War period. Ages: Middle School thru High School. Presenters are Russ and Laura DeVenney. Contact Russ DeVenney


"A Revolutionary Chaplain". A presentation covering the life and activities of Rev. John Gano. Rev. Gano was a military chaplain during the American Revolutionary War. Rev Gano baptised his commander, Gen. George Washington. Presenter is John Hardin Chance, who is a direct descendant of Rev. Gano. Contact John Chance


"John Wesley Donaldson" 60 minutes. Slide show with live narration. A presentation on the life of John Donaldson. Donaldson was an African-American Baseball star from Glasgow Missouri. He played before Major League Baseball allowed black players. He is a recent inductee in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. Contact J. Y. Miller


"Frances Woods: Doctor and Suffragette" 30-45 minutes. Frances Woods was a doctor who served as a nurse in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War due to a woman not being allowed to care for men in the capacity of a doctor. She came home and spent the next 20 years traveling the central and south western United States speaking out for woman's suffarage. Presenter is one of her descendents. Contact: Harold Kerr II


"Turner Ashby: Black Knight of the Confederacy" 30 minutes. Turner Ashby was the grandson of a Revolutionary War Captain, who went from being a leader in tracking down John Brown at Harper's Ferry to being a southerner against secession to being a Colonel and then Brigadier General in the Confederate Army in the Civil War. He was killed in action in early June 1862 before his appointment as Brigadier General was confirmed by the Confederate Senate. Presenter is a descendant.Contact: Harold Kerr II


"Henry Francis: Revolutionary War Hero" 30 minutes. Henry Francis was a Captain in the Montgomery County Virginia Militia in the Revolutionary War. He served with distinction in the Colonial War before the Revolution. He started life as a poor boy who became a shoemaker and then planter. He was killed in action in the battle of Shallow Ford, North Carolina, a week after King's Mountain. His son, John, was in the same battle and according to witnesses, John killed the British soldier who killed Captain Henry Francis. Presenter is a lineal descendant. Contact: Harold Kerr II


"Champ Clark: Missouri Statesman" 45 minutes. Champ Clark, a resident of Bowling Green, Missouri was a long time speaker of the Missouri House. He was very nearly the Democratic candidate for U. S. President in 1912. After many ballots, he lost that nomination to Woodrow Wilson. He is portrayed by Alan Hiles, who grew up in Bowling Green. The presenter dresses as Clark and will bring numerous photos and other items from the history of Champ Clark. Contact: > Alan Hiles
