I talked to Rosa Lee Burch (she is the oldest living grandchild of Ulysses Grant Burch) this morning for the first time. The last Time I saw her I was 2 years old. That was 52 years ago. She is such a wonderful lady, I only wish I could spend more time with her recording the many stories she has to tell. Here is just one of the stories she told me. cousin mark
At first Rosa Lee could not remember if the story was James or Bazabel. After listening to her I could tell it was Bazabel. She tells of an aging Bazabel who had become sick. He asked his sons to take him out on Little Log Mountain also known as Monarch Mountain and Burch Mountain. As they walk about the mountain Bazabel keep looking at the trees, he then stopped and pointed at a large tree and asked his sons to cut it down. The sons (this would have been James Thomas and William Henry Burch) did what Bazabel had asked. Bazabel then walked along the tree pointed at a section of the tree and told his sons to cut that section out. Bazabel then explained that he wanted that portion of the tree cut in half and hollowed out. The section was to be his coffin in which he was to be buried in there on Burch Mountain located not to far from Middlesboro and Yellow Creek, Kentucky
