Mendon Cemetery is located 1 3/4 miles south, and 1/2 miles west of Friestatt. In 1948 the nearby creek had cut away the bank to the very margin of the cemetery. In November 1967 only three markers were decipherable at the time. The Civil War Marker for G.W. Weldy was the only stone standing. We were told that part of graveyard had been washed away. One informant told us that John and Mariah (Chitwood) Weldy were buried here. By Fred G. Mieswinkel.
