Biography of Effie Maude Thomas Loy

Effie Maude Thomas was the daughter of William James (Jim) Thomas and Louisa Adeline Gibson. Her father was a prominent stock farmer in Lawrence County. She was born December 20, 1869 in Lawrence County, Missouri. She lived with her family in Jenkins until her marriage.

Her husband was Thomas Harkins Loy, who later retired from the National Guard as a Brigadier General. They were married in Aurora December 11, 1895. For a time they lived north of Aurora on the stock farm jointly owned by Mr. Loy and her father, but they returned to 304 Elliott Avenue in Aurora, where they spent the rest of their lives. They had 5 children; Carl Thomas, Kenneth Henry, Mildred, Genevieve Lucille and Tom Harold.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Ladies Needle Club of Aurora.

She died in Aurora October 8, 1942 and was buried in Maple Park Cemetery in Aurora.
