ANITA D. OWINGS 

Anita Dee Owings, 94, Olathe, Kan., died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at the Royal Terrace Care Center in Olathe. Mrs. Owings was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. The family will receive friends preceding the service. Her cremains will be interred in Oak Grove Cemetery. THOMAS D. TWEEDIE 

Thomas D. Tweedie, 72, Lake City, Mich., died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac, Mich.

Mr. Tweedie was born Dec. 15, 1926, in Willimantic, Conn. He worked for Design West in Orange County, Calif., for 31 years before retiring to Lake City. He earned a master's degree from the Art Institute of Los Angeles in May 1989. He was president of the Lake City Area Artists Association, and was a member of the American Society of Industrial Designers. He was a member of the RLDS church in Cadillac, was an Army veteran, and had been active in the Boy Scouts of America in Los Angeles.

His survivors include his wife, Betty Goulder Tweedie; three sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Vicky Tweedie, John and Terre Tweedie, and Daniel and Lynn Tweedie, all of Independence; one sister, Jean McElhiney, Burbank, Calif.; grandchildren, Mark, Matthew, Misty and Mike Alan Tweedie, Michelle Canon, Eric and Brian Kelly, John II, Sarah, Robert, Mellissa and Mike Andrew Tweedie, and Brian Tweedie; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were held at the church. The family suggests contributions to the church.

LINDA M. SIMMONS 

Linda Marie Simmons, 57, Buckner, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at St. Mary's Manor of Blue Springs.

Mrs. Simmons was born March 27, 1942, in Kansas City.

Her survivors include her husband of 28 years, Phillip Simmons, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Bill Brooks, Grain Valley; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Elizabeth Lowry, Centerview, Mo.; a sister, Deborah Sperling, Kansas City, Kan.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m., Monday, at Chapel of Memories, Grain Valley. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11 a. m., Monday, at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to K.C. Hospice of Cancer Action in Mrs. Simmons' name.

DEBRA L. RAINES 

Debra Louise Raines, 47, Buckner, formerly of Independence, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, following a car accident.

Mrs. Raines was born July 24, 1952, in King City, Mo. Her dream of owning her own restaurant became a reality when she opened Debby's Diner on U.S 40 Highway five years ago.

Her survivors include her husband, David, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Darin and Mary Raines, Independence; son and daughter-in-law, Dustin and Sara Raines, Buckner; father, Darrel 'Buck' Propes, Colorado Springs, Colo.; mother, Ermel Propes, Cosby, Mo.; three brothers, Donnie and Douglas, both of St. Joseph, and David, Kansas City, two sisters Dea, St. Joseph, Mo., and Dovie, Gower, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Tommi Lynn, Zack, Darby, and Jamison.

Services will be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p. m., Monday, at the chapel.

RAYMOND H. NORTON 

Raymond H. Norton, 98, Blue Springs, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at St. Mary's Manor of Blue Springs.

Mr. Norton was born June 8, 1901, in Sweden, New York. He has lived in the Kansas City area since 1968.

He was preceeded in death by his wife of 68 years, Evelyn M. Norton, in 1997.

His survivors include a sister, Helen Szarlacki, Washington, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, William G. and Dorothy L. Norton, Independence; a daughter, Clara B. Foley, Mount Dora, Fla.; and 5 granddaughters, Linda Dennis, Sandy, Utah, Susie Brownrigg, Woodlands, Texas, Valerie Wanner, Sioux City, Iowa, Becky Suarez, Fairfax, Va., and Nadine Foley, Mount Dora, Fla.

Services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Sunday, at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Shriner's Childrens' Hospital, 5100 Ararat Drive in Kansas City.

George Harlan Fulks, 71, Bates City, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at his home.

RALPH E. DAVIS 

Ralph E. Davis, 77, Kansas City, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Davis was born April 26, 1922, in Edwards, Mo., and had lived in this area since 1954. He had worked in construction from 1951 to 1966. He also worked at Lake City Army Ammunitions Plant from 1966 until retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Blue Summit Baptist Church.

His survivors include his wife, Leona Davis of the home; his mother, Lulu Forth, Independence; a son, Jesse Davis, Cameron, Mo.; four sisters, Rosemary Jones and Elsie Doubnmeir, both of Independence, Ann Peters, Warsaw, Mo.,and Virgie Oliver, Clinton, Miss.; a brother, Jim Forth, Calhoun, Mo.; and a grandson Jesse L. Davis II, Independence.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at Bethel Campground Cemetery, Edwards, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the chapel.

WILLIAM C. HADEN 

William Clark Haden, 87, Independence, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Haden was born Feb. 9, 1912, in Knob Noster, Mo., came to Independence at an early age and lived here until moving to Lamoni, Iowa, in 1926. In Lamoni, he attended high school and went on to graduate from Graceland College, and later graduated from the University of Iowa. He had also lived in St. Paul, Minn., where he was in charge of the physical therapy department at the YMCA for several years. During World War II, he was a lieutenant J.G. in the Navy, serving as a gunnery officer in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and served 30 years as an appointee minister in the office of Seventy. He was currently a member of the RLDS Stone Church. His assignments were mostly in the Western and Southwestern United States. In 1977, he retired and lived in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas for five years, returning to Independence in 1980.

His survivors include his wife of 61 years, Doris Kelley Haden; one daughter, Linda Keller, Sun City, Ariz.; one son, Dennis Haden, Portland, Ore.; one sister, Geneva Smith, Lake Tapawingo; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Inurnment will be in Mound Grove Cemetery at a later date. The family suggests contributions to the RLDS Stone Church Endowment Fund, 1012 Lexington Ave., Independence, Mo. 64050, or to the Kansas City Hospice, 1625 W. 92nd St., Kansas City, Mo. 64114.

MARILYN D. MAYHUGH 

Marilyn Dolores Mayhugh, 71, Independence, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at her home.

Mrs. Mayhugh was born in Kansas City and was a lifelong Jackson County area resident. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Her husband of 47 years, Anthony Mayhugh, died on March 1, 1999.

Her survivors include two sons, James E. Mayhugh, Raytown, and John A. Mayhugh, Independence; one daughter, Debra M. Vreeland, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; fours sisters, Janet Haeberle, Louisburg, Kan., Kay Atwell, Shawnee, Kan., Gloria Schelling, Wendall, Idaho, and Lula Wisk, Twin Falls, Idaho; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

DR. WILLIAM H. YOUNG 

Dr. William H. Young, 68, Plainville, Kan., formerly of Oak Grove, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at the Plainville Rural Hospital.

Dr. Young was born Aug. 7, 1931, in Oak Grove. He was a 1949 graduate of Oak Grove High School, and a 1965 graduate of the Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City. He started his chiropractic practice in Plainville in May 1966 and retired in June 1994. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8871 in Plainville. He was a 30 year member of Gideons International.

His survivors include his wife, Martha Bondurant Young of the home; one sister, Betty Henderson, Fort Collins, Colo.; one brother, Elmer Young, Oak Grove; and a niece and nephew.

Services were today at the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, Plainville. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove, immediately followed by burial with military honors in Oak Grove Cemetery.

MARY A. STEPHENS

Mary A. Stephens, 83, Ozark, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at The Baptist Home in Ozark.

Mrs. Stephens was born Sept. 17, 1916, in Aurora, Mo. She worked at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant during World War II, and later at Pecks department store in Kansas City. She had belonged to the First Baptist Church of Independence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert R. Stephens in 1968, and an infant son in 1936.

Her survivors include one sister, Catherine Taylor, Independence; one brother, Ray S. Taylor, Mission, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

RICHARD E. OSBURN

Richard Eugene Osburn, 22, Pleasanton, Kan., formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Osburn was born Jan. 20, 1977, in Kansas City. He was a foundation worker, and an Army veteran.

His survivors include his mother and stepfather, Patricia R. Biggs and David W. Biggs of Pleasanton; one son, Tristan E. Osburn, Fort Scott, Kan.; one sister, Candy J. Osburn, Kansas City; and a stepbrother, David A. Biggs, Pleasanton.

MARJORIE A. MARTIN

Marjorie A. Martin, 77, Independence, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Martin was born in White Sulpher Springs, Mont., and had lived in the Independence area with her husband, Ross M. Atwell, until his death. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Independence. She was employed by the Vendo Corp. until her marriage to Lawrence Martin. She then moved to the Hastain community and helped run the Hastain General Store until their retirement to Duckworth Camp near Warsaw, Mo. Following Mr. Martin's death, she had resided at the Senior Citizen Center in Warsaw, and was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Warsaw.

Her survivors include two sons, James R. Atwell and Linda Stutes of Independence, and Gregory L. Martin and Patricia Smith of Cairo, Ga.; two daughters, Mary Ann Reynolds and husband, Walt, Clewiston, Fla., and Marilyn E. Wisehart and husband, John, Cairo; one sister, Louise Phemister, Gladstone, Mo.; two brothers, Jack P. Kilbride, Baring, Mo., and Richard Kilbride, Overland Park, Kan.; 13 grandchildren, Larry and Richard Martin, Rhonda Pack, Wendy and John Wisehart, Cass Brooks, Clara Mitchell, Julie Smith, Mary Eidson, Rusty and Alicia Atwell, Robert Hunter and Tina Vaughn; and seven great-grandchildren, Brittney Eidson, Destry Wisehart, Destiny, Serenity and Ciara Vaughn, Jennifer Davis and Cortney Hunter.

A memorial Mass will be held Thursday at the church in Warsaw. Arrangements are under the direction of the Sheil Independence Avenue Chapel, Kansas City.

Sam A. Gibbs Jr., 86, Independence, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at the Independence Manor Care Center.

Mr. Gibbs was born Sept. 2, 1913, in Keithburg, Ill. He retired from Armco Steel in 1976. He was a member of the Eden Heights RLDS Church and Sheffield Masonic Lodge 643-N.C.T. Kay Cee Lamplighters as a wagon master.

His survivors include his wife of 33 years, Naomi R. Gibbs of the home; 10 children, Mona D. Thompson, Oak Grove, Rogene A. Gibbs, Charlotte E. Hulmes and Howard L. Read, all of Independence, Earl L. Read, Browning, Mo., William Evert, Virginia Riley, Elmer Read and Alberta L. Sebeniecher, all of Blue Springs, Veryla R. BILLY J. PATTON

Billy J. Patton, 69, Kansas City, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at the Great Plains Nursing Home.

Mr. Patton was born April 5, 1930, in Monett, Mo. He was a baker, and had owned Fluffy Fresh Donuts on Troost in Kansas City for more than 50 years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, and had been a member of Elk Lodge 26 for 25 years.

His survivors include one daughter, Judy Bellamy, Grandview; one son, Charles Patton, Kansas City; two grandchildren, Jamie and Kerri Bellamy; and one sister, Patsy Fly, Carlsbad, Calif.

WILLIAM D. ROBISON

William D. Robison, 39, Kansas City, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Robison was born Sept. 13, 1960, in Kansas City. He was a cabinet maker, and an Air Force veteran. He was preceded in death by two sons.

His survivors include one son, Trevor Robison of the home; two daughters, Nichole Robison and Shannon Robison, both of Overland Park, Kan.; his parents, George and Peggy Robison, Blue Springs; his maternal grandmother, Ruby Powell, Kansas City; and two brothers, Fred Blaker, Oak Grove, and James Robison, Grandview.

BYRON C. MEYER

Byron Carroll Meyer, 64, Mountain Grove, Mo., died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, in Houston, Mo.

Mr. Meyer was born June 11, 1935. He was an over-the-road truck driver for several years. After his retirement, he became a talented, self-taught, tin smith, and produced reproductions from the 1700 and 1800 era.

His survivors include his wife of 26 years, Carolyn Meyer of the home; and one brother, Truman Meyer, Texas.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Buckner Chapel.

HELEN L. LAFFOON

Helen L. Laffoon, 87, Kansas City, formerly of Independence, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at the Truman Medical Center-East Care Center.

Mrs. Laffoon was born in Independence. She was a Baptist by faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Laffoon.

Her survivors include several nieces and nephews.

MABEL L. 'LENORE' McINTOSH

Mabel L. 'Lenore' McIntosh, 80, Independence, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. McIntosh was born Sept. 10, 1919, in Liberal, Mo., and had lived in this area most of her life. She had taught school in Southern Missouri, and was the co-owner and founder of McIntosh Heating and Cooling. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Bible Church, and had been the president of a bowling league for many years.

Her survivors include her husband of 58 years, Donald V. 'Jack' McIntosh of the home; two daughters, Joyce Harshner, Blue Springs, and Dona Waterhouse, Independence; two sons, Truman McIntosh, Independence, and Roger McIntosh, Blue Springs; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

MADELINE "MADGE" HEDGES

Madeline "Madge" Hedges, 83, Lee's Summit, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at St. Mary's Manor in Blue Springs.

Mrs. Hedges was born Aug. 8, 1916, in Hot Springs, Ark. She had been a bookkeeper, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Order of Eastern Star Chapter 428.
Her survivors include three stepsons, Charles L. Rosser, Independence, the Rev. Robert Ross, New York City, and William Rosser, Grain Valley; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were today at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Burial was in Blue Springs Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Eastern Star.

Joseph Salvatore Saluto, 70, Independence, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Saluto was born Oct. 4, 1929, in Kansas City, and had lived in this area most of his life. He was a masonry contractor for many years, and was a member of Bricklayers Union Local 4. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, and a member of Sugar Creek Moose Lodge 10. He attended Outreach Missionary Baptist Church in Blue Springs.

His survivors include his wife, Bonnie Saluto of the home; three children, Vincent Saluto, Lake Lotawana, and Jim Saluto and Debbie Mason, both of Independence; four stepchildren, Sid Adamson, Raytown, and Robert Adamson, Mike Adamson and Todd Adamson, all of Independence; seven grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two brothers, Steve Saluto, Northeast Kansas City, and Tom Saluto, Bel Air, Calif.

George Lawrence Rouchka Jr., 53, Independence, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Rouchka was born Sept. 20, 1946, in Kansas City. He worked for General Motors for more than 30 years, and was a member of the United Auto Workers Union. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, and was an avid outdoorsman.

His survivors include his wife of 31 years, Linda Rouchka of the home; two sons, Brian Rouchka and George R. Rouchka, both of Independence; three grandchildren, Michael, Ashley and Kody Rouchka; his mother, Gladys M. Rouchka, and a sister, Judy True, both of Independence; and one brother, John Rouchka, Raytown.

ROBERT L. WRIGHT

Robert Leon Wright, 76, Independence, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Wright was born Jan. 27, 1923, in Kingsland, Ark. He was a lift truck operator for the GAF Corp. for many years, and was a member of the Teamsters Union. He attended church at the Sheffield Family Life Center, and was a Navy veteran of World War II.

His survivors include his wife of 56 years, Alberta Wright of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Walter "Corky" Schauwecher, Holden, Mo., Linda and Kenneth Culp, Anderson, Ind., and Roberta and Richard Vargas, Independence; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Don Wright, Houston; and one sister, Anita Sutterfield, Southaven, Miss.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to Sheffield Family Life Center Building Fund.

ADA M. WOODS

Ada Mae Woods, 79, Independence, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at the Independence Region-al Health Center.

She was born June 29, 1920.

Her survivors include one sister, Floella Cadwell, Independence; two brothers, Russell Moss of the home, and Everett Moss, Kansas City; also her niece and nephew who were raised in her home, Bill Reynolds and wife, Cindy, Independence, and Brenda Cadwell of the home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Salvation Army Church, 14700 E. Truman Road. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the church. Contributions are suggested to the family to help defray funeral expenses.

PHYLLIS CORNISH

Phyllis Davies Cornish, 79, Holt, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at the Clinton County Care Center, Plattsburg, Mo.

Mrs. Cornish was born Dec. 14, 1919, in Evsham, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Canada, and lived in Canada until moving to Independence in 1959. She moved to Holt in 1988. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Iral Cornish, who died in 1996.

Her survivors include a daughter, Heather Vawter, Prince George, British Columbia, Canada; one son and daughter-in-law, Kirby and Carla Cornish, Holt; two brothers, William V. "Bill" Davies, Oak Grove, and Maurice Davies, Independence; three sisters, Vida Cummings, Chris Anderson and Doris Ball, all of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Fry Chapel, Kearney, Mo. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Kearney.

ELDON H. MORSTAIN

Eldon H. Morstain, 86, Independence, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Morstain was born Nov. 21, 1913, in Marion, Ill., and had lived in this area for the past 40 years. He had been a toolsetter at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge in Higginsville, Mo., and a Merchant Marines veteran.

His survivors include his wife, Mary K. Morstain, Independence; a stepson, James R. Gold, Tucson, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Betty Alford, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and two stepgrandsons.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel, Independence. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel.
