Like many of you, my ancestors once lived in Howard County. I do not live in Howard County (and never have). If anyone who does live in the area wants to take over Howard County for The USGenWeb Project, I would be happy to turn over ownership of these pages to someone with a better knowledge of the county. In the meantime, if you have information to add to this project, please let me know. If you would like to volunteer to host a currently unhosted county for The MOGenWeb Project, visit the Missouri Orphan County page. If you would like to volunteer to host a currently unhosted county in another state, go to The USGenWeb Project and contact the state coordinator of that state.
Howard County Mailing List
Thanks to the folks at Rootsweb, there is a genealogical discussion e-mail list exclusively for Howard County, Missouri
researchers! Sherryl Barger has graciously agreed to continue hosting the mailing list for the time being. I highly recommend that you join in on the e-mail discussion for Howard County researchers. Also, new additions to the Howard County MOGenWeb project will be announced on this mailing list. You can join this list by sending an e-mail to:
[email protected]
In the body of the message type the command: subscribe
No other information should be typed before or after the command, make sure to turn off any signature line you may have, and make sure to leave the subject line blank. (Note for AOL users, if you must put something in
the subject line, just type "subscribe" (without the quotes) in the subject line as well.)
In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project. The initial idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where databases would be collected and stored. This grew into a project for the entire United States (the USGenWeb Project), and subsequently for the World (the WorldGenWeb Project). Missouri (the MOGenWeb Project) joined this project in July of 1996. Howard County joined the MOGenWeb Project in November 1996.
To accomplish this, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the county web pages. Even though today most counties have coordinators, ongoing projects continue to need volunteers.
