Shirley Cemetery

SHIRLEY CEMETERY, HARRISON COUNTY, MO

The Shirley Cemetery is located approximately one mile west of Eagleville in Marion Township of northern Harrison County. From Eagleville, go west on blacktop M for .7 mile. The cemetery is approximately 1/4 of a mile north of the blacktop on private property.

The cemetery is located on what was the homestead of Daniel R. Shirley and began with the burial of an infant daughter. The next recorded burial was that of a neighbor, James Terry who died in 1872. Other family members were buried in the plot and the Shirleys deeded the cemetery to a board of trustees in the mid 1870s. The following list of burials is compiled from several resources including death certificates, family histories, a partial list of burials published in the Bethany Republican-Clipper and an old survey graciously provided by Kenneth Shirley. Other research and a compilation of information was done by Phil and Kathi Stewart.
