         Our Hosts
My name is Sherryl Barger and I am the Howard County coordinator. My
husband, teenage son, and I live in Northwest Arkansas and have never lived
in Missouri. In addition to my love of genealogy of 17 years, I'm an avid
collegiate sports fan.

I volunteered for Howard County back in October 1996. I told Megan at the
time that I kept waiting for someone to adopt it and since it looked like
none was, I would give it a try even though I had no idea what HTML was.
She and many others on this list held my hand until I got the hang of it
and Howard County came on-line in November. I have a rather funny note to
add to that. At the time that I volunteered for Howard, little did I know
that it was called the "Mother of Counties." At the time it was created it
covered about 1/3 of the entire state of Missouri. Boy, things were jumpin'
right from the start! No wonder noone had volunteered for it! <g>

I have much less time to do research now that I did before the project.
(I'm researching VANLANDINGHAMs and MALONEs in Missouri.) But I have had
some wonderful folks contact me through queries that I have placed
throughout the USGenWeb project. Some of the information I have received
from these folks I had been searching for about 15 years. I truly believe
that the more you give, the more you receive. So, I give as much as I can
to my county and don't worry too much about my research....it will come.

I've recently redesigned the index page and like it very much except it is
a little wide for small monitors. I worry about it being a hindrance to
those that visit the site having to scroll over, but I don't know how to
fix it to resize to fit a visitors screen. Any tips would be appreciated!

I'm currently extracting items from 1877 issues of a Howard County
newspaper and posting them to the MOHOWARD list. I plan to add those the
the Howard County website soon. What a hoot some of those are!

One thing I have been thinking alot about lately is setting up some special
projects for Howard County and requesting volunteers to coordinate them.
For starters, I want to get a marriage database and an obituary database
going. I plan to ask for coordinators on the MOHOWARD list to handle
gathering this information for me and getting it ready to upload. I feel
that this would help bring more data on-line faster than I could do it
myself. Plus, I hope that having more folks involved in my county project
will bring about an excitement for others to contribute in anyway they can.
I'll let you know how that turns out.

Well, that's way more than any of you wanted to know about me. I've enjoyed
working on this project for the past couple of years and I look forward to
reading what others have to share.

I'm Lisa Buese, the host for Ste. Genevieve County for about the last year.
I do daycare for 8 children 10 hours a day, so getting to "talk" to adults
and learn new things like HTML is really fun!  I started this with no
knowledge at all of how webpages work, and after being tutored via email by
a couple other cc's, I just love it.  My relatives think I'm a genius
because I know how to upload a photo onto a webpage!  (see
www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/4882/gerber.html

When I started genealogy two years ago I had no idea I had Ste. Genevieve
roots.  I grew up in Festus, Missouri (Jefferson County) and now live in
Olathe, Kansas.  The more I researched the more I found myself in Ste.
Gen--hence the webpage.

An honest-ta-goodness, Ozark Mountain William....thats the scienteeefic name
fer a native hill-billy!

My name is Jim Cochran, and I'm the host of Camden. No ties. No family
there. Just a desire to give back what I recieved from the GenWeb when I
started this Gawsh-forsaken, but unbelieveably addictive hobby of family
history.  When I started the site for Camden, all I had was an address for the
Histerical Society, and a brief history of the county from Everton.  That was
in Dec '95.

I have worked for Bass Pro Shops since 1987, and that is where I met my wife,
Barbara.  We were married in '91, and this past December '97 I adopted my
stepson Patrick, and Babzy and I have a younger son, Joshua.

My pa-inlaw got me hooked on genealogy, though I have always been an American
history nut, so it was just a more personal extension of my interest, for
which I am glad he got me into this while I was still young enough to have the
benefit of information from older generations of my family, but since my
mother's family settled in Christian Co  MO (where I still live ) around 1863,
the documented part was easy, so all I really have to use of my older
relatives is chasing down old photos etc.  In that, I have been real fortunate
also, as I have been able to compile a family photo archive back to my ggg
grandfather, the original settler of our family in Christian Co. which,
counting my kids, gives me a complete 7 generation of photos on my
Ellingsworth line, and 5 for my Cutbirth line.

My other hobbies include coaching my sons' Little League Baseball teams,
canoeing, hikeing, and camping, playing inline hockey (roller hockey) since
the ice tends to run thin down here in SW/ MO. (LOL) and ardently supporting
my St Louis Cardinals through thick and thin....basicly just T.M.S...Typical
Male Stuff.

Sue Hopkins Cooley - Franklin County Coordinator

I began as county coordinator around January 1998. Larry Flesher had maintained the site prior to that and needed some relief because he was handling a LOT of counties and all of the postings were entered manually by the cc at that time. I have had a long-term interest in Franklin County history although I am a native of Wright County. In addition to serving as county coordinator, I also manage the county list and board and am presently (2001-2002) serving as president of the county historical society.

My children are grown but my husband and I are raising a granddaughter who is in college. We again live in rural Franklin County, but did a stint on the East Coast from 1998-2001. We first moved to Morris County, NJ and, before moving there, I contacted the Morris County Coordinator, hoping to learn a little about the area. It seemed like a good place to start since we were both county coordinators! To my utter astonishment, he lived in Missouri and was also serving as Jefferson County coordinator at the time! He had never lived in Morris County and couldn't tell me much about it except that his great-great grandfather was from there!

That's about it. Come visit Franklin County!

Sue Cooley

I am Linda Crawford the county coordinator for Hickory County beginning in March 2000. Hosting a webpage is totally new to me and thanks go to Mary Hudson for all the wonderful help she gave. I have been doing lookups for Hickory, Polk, Camden and Dallas Counties in MO and some KY sites for sometime. I was born and raised in Dallas County at Tunas then Urbana. My husband was born and raised in nearby Hickory County near Nemo. We both graduated from Skyline High School of the Hickory County R-1 School District. Both of us have our roots in the area of the counties mentioned above. We have lived in Polk County for 39 years and are active in the history of Hickory, Polk and Dallas Counties. I have had one family history published and written and published several small local histories and working on more. I teach piano at home and do custom sewing. Every spare minute is put toward working on genealogy and history. I see so much that needs doing and this is a wonderful way to help. I see so many really good sites so know I must work hard to keep up with those.
My name is Lynn Cupp and I am the CC for Holt County, MO.  I've been
involved with genealogy for some 17 years and discovered the USGenWeb
when I finally purchased a modem for my computer a couple of years ago.
I knew absolutely nothing about HTML or web pages when I took Holt
County in December 1996.  Megan assured me that it would be no big deal
to get a web page up and that there was plenty of help available.  She
was right...some trial and error, some time, and a lot of help and I got
the Holt County page up.

Holt County interested me because my GGGF, GGF and GF all lived there
between 1874 and 1910.

I am ex-Navy enlisted and officer and met my wife, Debbie, who is
ex-Navy Nurse Corps, at the Bremerton Officers Club bar.  Debbie now
does home IV therapy and I am an electrical engineer (BSEE from Univ of
New Mexico), Program Manager and senior financial analyst for Lockheed
Martin Systems Support & Training Services (a mouthful) in Chesapeake,
VA.  (I claim that I am bringing logic to the world of finance!)

Debbie and I were married 9 May 1982 and have 2 children; Karlene who is
15 (going on 25) and Travis (Mr. Computer), 13.

I was born in 1949 in Los Angeles and have lived in Hawthorne, CA;
Albuquerque, NM; Port Orchard, WA; Middletown, RI; and Virginia Beach,
VA.  Have been in Virginia Beach since 1984.

Lawrence Dunbar -    Laclede County checking in.
Larry Dunbar here. Retired IBM er. Ex jarhead. I have been the CC for this
county for only a couple of months. I am still trying to get the auto loads
to the queries and surname lists working the way I like.
I have made some changes to the page and I will make more. I am with the
Laclede Co genealogical society and have put a link to that home page and
back.
Birth day   A long time ago.  Dec 31 1933
Anniversary  June 13 1954 also a long time ago.
My name is Linda M. Everhart. My husband Johnny and I live in beautiful rural Henry County near Blairstown. I was born in Springfield and my husband is a native of Clinton. My grandmother, Della Hickman Frieze, was responsible for getting me interested in family history research back in 1976. Since then I have researched my family and helped others find information on theirs.

When I came to Henry County in the early 1980s, I visited the Genealogy Library at the Henry County Museum and was so impressed by the amount of available information, I volunteered to help with any transcription of records in my spare time. I had been using a home computer for business purposes, since the first Apple IIe hit the market, and it certainly came in handy for this type of work. Through the years I have upgraded my equipment many times and I am presently running a PowerMacG3, which is an excellent machine.

I have watched with amazement, as the worldwide web changed the concept of genealogy research from long hours of mailing in request forms to libraries, government offices and relatives, and waiting, and waiting ... to now simply signing on or slipping in a CD and getting the information you need within seconds. It's a genealogist dream come true.

My main goal at the Henry County MOGenWeb site is to post as much solid information as possible, and continue to update and add to it on a daily basis.

I_ve worked with local records for so many years that I feel a real kinship with the people of this county, although I am not closely related to any. My interest is in ALL those who lived in this area of Missouri. I welcome and encourage those who have kinship here to get involved with the site by submitting what they have discovered about their families.

Good Luck and Good Research!

Donna Falloon -I've been hosting Scott County since March of 1997, didn't know much at
all about creating web pages until I started.  But Megan was very
patient and helpful.  If it hadn't been for her encouragement, I
probably would have given up.
I was born in Scott County but lived there only a couple years,
and grew up in Gordonville (population at the time was 92), near
Jackson.  My mother was also born in Scott County, and after taking on
Scott County, I learned that Mom's grandparents met there, and many of
my ancestors lived and are buried in Scott County.  I also have strong
ties to Perry County, especially the Tucker family that moved on to
Texas - very much a coincidence because that's where I am now.  I always
felt drawn to Texas, it must have been the same sense of adventure my
gggg-grandparents felt in the 1830's.
As to my personal life, I have two grown daughters, and now help
them with my 3 grandchildren.  I work in a large hospital in Houston,
Texas, in the computer area, where I wear a lot of hats, including
webmistress for our intranet.
I started genealogy research only to help my mother, as finding
her family roots has became very important to her, but it didn't take
long for me to get hooked myself.  I've truly enjoyed doing the
research, taking care of the Scott County page, and talking to other
researchers I've met through the Scott County page, and all the other
Missouri and web pages.  It really is rewarding, especially when someone
writes me that they met a relative through the Scott County page.
Missouri names I am researching include Davis, Grantham,
Whistler, Leger (English translation Light), Tucker, McGinnis, Hayden,
Haman, Morris (or Morse).  I don't have my own web page - don't have
time!  Maybe someday.
My name, address, etc. are below. I don't care who has it.  If anyone
lives in this area, I would love to hear from you.  Actually, I did
learn through e-mail that one of the county coordinators (I think it was
Perry County) did live not very far from me and we figured we had
probably passed each other on the Houston freeways at some time!

As to suggestions, I think you all are doing a wonderful job.  I know
you must put in a lot of hours to organize this and I thank all of you
involved.

Homer Ficken, Benton County coordinator since November 1998. 24 years Air Force (E-9), 20 years Postal Service (Data Site Tech), now retired in Fort Worth, Texas.

Born 1929 Macon County, but my prior three generations were born in Cole Camp area of Benton County, where immigrant ancestor Pete Ficken established his first homestead in spring of 1839.

Married 48 years to Shirley DeSpain of Macon County; sons born (1) Colorado, (2) Texas, and (3) Colorado.

Have found helping others find their roots to be as satisfying as digging my own, and am kept busy with lookups.

I'm Larry Flesher - MOGenWeb Coordinator for five Missouri counties (all on
Rootsweb).  I started out with Grundy County, because both my parents were
born there (even though I have never lived there).  Because I am
researching all individuals of the FLESHER surname, I "accumulated" several
more counties where FLESHERs were found in the 1800s, also took on Washington
County because that's where I live. Now all counties except Grundy and Washington are in the care of other coordinators.

I was born in Eldon, Iowa 09 Jan 1941. My father worked for the Rock Island
railroad, so have moved around all my life.  Lived in Illinois, Kansas,
Texas, then Illinois again before high school. After a Navy career, I now
work for the Boeing Company in St. Louis - first moved to Missouri in 1975.
My wife Carol and I have been married over 40 years (married 24 Jun 1961).  Our
middle child was born in Pandayia, Cyprus in 1964;  our eldest child
graduated from high school in Pusan, Korea in 1980.   Now live in the woods
of Washington County, MO where my only relative is my wife - I usually know
where to find her.

My interest in genealogy was sparked by helping our youngest daughter work
on a "family tree" school project;  Kim remained interested, got me
involved, and the rest of the story is a database with over 12000 related individuals;
two lines (FLESHER and MAXSON) back to the 1600s.  Now my wife's
grandfather JONES who married a BROWN is a different story. (see "The
Descendants of Johannes FLEISCHER" at
http://www.fidnet.com/~lflesher/johannes/johann.htm).  My homepage is at:
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/4386/index.html

Now, for those who believe the oldest established settlement west of the
Mississippi was a town on the river, come visit the Catholic Church and
Cemetery in Old Mines, Washington County, MO - been there since 1728!

I'm Kathy Gaines, host for Buchanan County, as of about 2 days ago.
This is my first try at being a host, so I am excited and looking very
forward to the goings on in the MOGenWeb.

Most of my family research is in northwest MO for my family, my hubby's
is in southwest MO, Kansas and Oklahoma.  I have been doing personnal
research for about one year.  Surnames include:
nw MO:  Dannar, Dakin, Harmer, Redden, Cogdill, Boner, Herrmann,
Jerauld, Thurman, Coffey
sw MO:  Cole, Gaines
KS/OK:  Gaines, Dakin

I live in Lafayette County, MO an do look-ups here.  I have put together
a homepage linking information that will be supplied to Terri Roberts,
Lafayette CC when it is a bit more complete.
http://users.solve.net/~wfgaine/

I have a copy and do look-ups from a Gentry County centenial publication
"Once Upon A Railroad, Stanberry, Missouri, 1879-1979", can view
surnames from the Gentry County, MO page.

I also have volunteered for the USGenWeb Census Project and am
transcribing Lafayette County 1850 for the archives. (Will do lookup on
completed portion of transcription, if requested.) I plan to help with
Clay and Lafayette County 1840 census when that is done.

If you have any material that you would like to have included on the
Buchanan County page, feel free to email me.  Arnie Dodge has done a
wonderful job with the Buchanan County page already, I hope I can
contribute as much.

Other statistics:

.a huge pleasure derived from genealogy

Beverly Williams Gardner - Nodaway, Atchison, Worth Co's, MO
I took over Nodaway, Atchison and Worth counties in late May.  I had
already started experimenting with a web page on Geocities and decided I'd
'dive in with both feet' and do these counties since Nodaway county is my
home.  Now, I've got seven web sites.  My Heartland/Bluffs page also has a
special section that documents our tour of the USS Missouri when it was in
Astoria, Oregon.  It will be updated in the near future to include photos
taken by a couple that are stationed in Hawaii.

I was born and raised as the fifth generation on the farm that my great,
great grandfather Williams homesteaded in the 1850's.  The ownership of
this land skipped my generation, but my youngest nephew now owns the last
remaining 50 acres, making him the sixth generation.  My father's line
consists of two Williams lines, Branick, Butner, Linebach, Anders, Twyman,
Heritage, Powell, Barringer, Reese, Lawson, Farley, Finley.  My mom's line
consists of Hedrick, Archer, Criss/Crist, Palmer, Wilds, Wheaton, Williams
(a third one), France, Collins, Bates, Clements, Huddleston, Ellis, Ross,
Mitchell, Dwire, Toland, Alford, Bridgman, Kimmons, Bird.  I started doing
genealogy just before my father died in 1977 and confess to the fact that
it is an addiction.

I grew up in the western part of Nodaway county and the eastern part of
Atchison county where my dad did a lot of custom farm work.  I belong to
the Order of the Eastern Star and can trace a Master Mason back six
generations on my mom's Hedrick family.  I've travelled all over the state
of Missouri and have had the pleasure of meeting many really terrific people.

I have been divorced for a little over 10 years, having been married to a
long-haul truck driver, and a 'single' parent for all of my son's 18 years.
Of my 42 years, we lived near Ft. Collins, CO for 3 years, and just this
week moved back to Maryville, MO from southwest Washington state (2 years)
where we tried to give the relationship with my x-husband another chance.
My son will be a junior in high school.  He received his Eagle Scout in
1995, went to World Boy Scout Jamboree in Holland in 1995 and spent the
week before Jambo in Munich touring.  He went to National Scout Jamboree in
1997.  He is now taking on the responsibilities and learning the ropes of
an Assistant Scoutmaster.  He also loves soccer and model railroading and
plans on making the railroad his career.

As for me, I'm an accountant and para-legal.  I haven't found a job in the
Maryville area yet but I'm not too worried about it.  I have one older
sister and brother, five nieces, two nephews, one grand nephew and another
grand nephew to arrive in early September.

That pretty well sums it up.  I can also say it is great to be back home.
