the direction of Major George B. Clark. The first house was
built the
same year, by S. W. Spiller and Daniel Haynes, and occupied
by a store furnishing supplies for the railroad
then building...
The first regular merchant was James
Gregory...Succeeding merchants were Jackson &
Ehrlich, W. M. Harkey and Sisel & Plant...
Malden was
incorporated at the April term of the county court,
1878.
