Married Mary Ramsey (she is buried at Boss Cemetery). There were several soldiers killed in this skirmish in the Civil War (also) known as the Battle of Springer's Mill. It has been said there were between 10 & 20 killed. At the time of the fight, Sep. 1, 1861, it was Bennett's Mill & the attack was made on the Dent County Home Guard. Also killed that day was Joseph L. _____. The wounded were George & William Counts, Thomas Howe, Thomas Holmes, Lieut. Chandler and A. H. Tulloch. The battle field is located on the south side of State Highway 19 in a grove of trees overlooking the Meramec River. There is only one marker, for T. J. Estes. Plans are to make this a historic site.
