Mary Ellen Carter is Dead of Pneumonia

Pneumonia yesterday proved fatal to Mrs. Mary Ellen Carter, 74. Mrs. Carter died at the home of her son, W.C. Carter, 1412 West McCarty street after a week's long illness. Mrs. Carter was born at Hartsburg, Dec. 14, 1860, and spent most of her life in Boone County. She was married twice, to William Hudson in 1876 and to D.S. Carter in 1891 after the death of her first husband. Mrs. Carter was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist church for forty years. Six children survive: C.E., J.C., George and Elmer Hudson and W.C. Carter of Jefferson City and Mrs. V .Bowden of Hartsburg. Surviving also are two sisters, Mrs. O.P. Jones of here and Mrs. Alina Dale of Quincy, Ill.; and three brothers, Charles Waters of Exeter, Samuel of California, and Jack of Jefferson City. There are twenty-four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
