Paul immigrated to Cole County from Wuertemburg, Germany with his parents and siblings at the age of 15 in 1855. He served as a private in the 10th MO Cavalry during the Civil War and was a farmer.

Margaretha Hoelrich was the daughter of Adam Hoelrich of Cole County and married Paul on 24 Jan 1865 in Jefferson City.

Paul & Margaretha had four children: Anton, Amelia (Smith), Katherine & Michael.
