--A creature whom we mentioned a short time ago, as having been drunk
and disturbing the peace of the community, repeated the disgraceful exhibition
last Saturday, and among other of his playful diversions attempted to "lick
the Editor." We are glad to say he didn't succeed, and his eyes are now
draped in mourning for his deceased character. We do not intend again
to disgrace our pages with his name, as he has been too highly honored
in that way already, but we would advise him for his own good, not to ship
any more Editors, lest he "wake up the wrong passenger" again.

DIED
On Sunday, October 2 1881, of remittent fever, Ethel T., only daughter
of J W and Minnie C Edgell, aged 8 months and 23 days. And thus,
she whom God gave, has returned to God. The lovely first born infant,
the light of the household and joy of her parents hearts, remained on earth
but long emough to gain the love of all who knew her, to take it to the
grave. Her memory will linger over green in the hearts of those who
so reluctantly parted from her in the path of life, but their sorrow should
be sweetened by the thought that their darling is forever free from care
and pain, and that what for a time is lost to them is found in Paridise.
In the well-know words of that well-known poet (Burns) we can say:----
"Here lies a rose, a budding rose
Blasted before its bloom;
Whose innocence did sweets disclose
Beyond that flower's
perfume.
"To those who for her loss are
grieved,
This consolation's
given-
She's from a world
of woe relieved,
And blooms
a rose in heaven.

Two Drowned
Wife and daughter of Walter Stwensen perish when runaway truck catapults
family into Niangua River
Mrs. Walter Stwensen, 42, and daughter, 7, were drowned in the Niangua,
at Hart bridge, six miles sw of Linn Creek, on Highway NO. 54, Wednesday
noon, in a motor accident.
Mr. Stwensen was saved by Mrs. Lee Webster and son, Hobart Long, who
threw the drowning man a rope and drew him to shore. The survivor
unquestionably owes his life to the presence of mind and speedy, efficient
help of the cool headed boy and his mother who heard the crash at their
home, near by. Hobert snatched a rope and they sped to the river,
barely in time.
Stwensen was cut, scratched and bruised, but Drs. Moore and Moulder
who treated the injuries, pronounced them not very serious.
The rescurers who went to Mr Stwensens aid caught glimpses of the woman
and child, but they were quickly swept from view. The bodies were
not recovered until Wednesday night. It was then found that Mrs Stwensen
had been deeply gashed across the forehead, exposing the skull, when the
truck struck the bridge railing, so that she was probably unconsious from
then on.
Before they sank and while the agonized and suffering husband and father
was struggling to reach them, he saw the little girl clinging to floating
bedding, and heard her calling to him, until her support gave way.
Neither could survive more than a very few minutes in the icy water.
Mr. Stwensen, who is a blacksmith, and his family were pitched into
the river when the heavily loaded truck in which they were moving from
Kimball, Nebraska, to Stoutland, wrecked the steering gear and rushed down
the hill at terrific speed, smashed through the bridge railing and landed
bottom up at the water's edge, a complete wreck, part of the household
goods were lost.
Relatives were notified, and Mr Stwensen is being cared for at the
home of Mr and Mrs Webster, near the scene of the accident. The bodies
of the unfortunate woman and child were buried in Roach cemetery, today,
Friday, both bodies in one casket.
