    NOTES: John met and married Sarah Collins (1824) in Lincoln County, TN. Circa 1830/1831 - John, Sarah and 3 kids joined his father-in-law Nathan in a westward move toward Missouri, stopping in Macoupin and Greene county, IL. While there, they purchased land, farmed - John and Sarah had two sons, William James and John D., jr. They sold the land, and somewhere in the interval of 1836 to 1838 they relocated to  Cape Girardeau, MO.
    John Dalton Hopper, Sr, Nathan Collins and their friend Benjamin Miller were the first Kage school trustees elected, 1854.

    DIED: 2 May 1903 - George and Nicie are buried in Benton Cemetery, Scott County. The death and burial of Elizabeth Arnold is unknown.
    NOTES: George had 2 complete families. With Elizabeth there were 5 off-spring, the last being my grandmother - Barbara Ellen Hopper, and with Nicie there were  4.

    MILITARY SERVICE: Civil War - pvt 29th Missouri Infantry Regt. Union -
    DIED: 5 May 1864 - buried Arsenal Island off St. Louis
    NOTES: John, Jr. went AWOL in Nov. 1862. Was captured and turned in for bounty in March of 1864. Was sent to Gratiot Prison in St. Louis where he contracted Small Pox. Was transfered to a military hospital at 5th & Chestnut in St. Louis where he died in 1864.  Buried on Arsenal Island,  where - over time the river eroded the island and scattered the dead. A memorial plaque was placed at Alton, IL  across the river.

    MILITARY SERVICE: "Hearts of Blue and Gray" has a listing for a Thomas Hopper serving with Col. Jeffrie's 8th Missouri Cavalry CSA, Co. K  - the same oufit that brothers William James and Perry P.W. were in during the Civil War. Thomas's service record only states that he surrendered himself and was released on a $1000 bond. There is no entry for dates or for active duty. I have yet to prove that the record is for this Thomas.
