One of my elusive ancestors may have been living in Missouri in 1840. His name was William C. Duncan and he was married to a woman named Abby. Their daughter, Sarah Jane, was married to my Henry A. Block of Cape Girardeau.
My first record of William C. Duncan is in the 1850 census in New Orleans with his wife and two year old daughter. They are living in a home with Cape Girardeau Blocks and Judens who had also moved to New Orleans.
Do you have any marriage records for a William C. Duncan around 1840 or census records? I don't even know what Missouri county this William lived in. Don't be confused by a later marriage entry: William C. Duncan, Jr. married one of Zalma Block's daughters in Cape Girardeau.
Thanks, Carolyn Castor

Subject: Ware/Haynes Cemetery
My people, Maize and Glasgow, were in Cape Co. at the time of both the 1850 and 1870 census. George Maize was killed in Perry Co. in 1829 by a claim jumper (per newspaper article) . He was supposedly brought back to Cape Co. and buried in the Ware Cemetery. He was my gr-gr-grandfather. His daughter, Mary Ann Maize Glasgow, wife of John Watts Glasgow, died in 1870 and was also buried in Ware Cemetery.
Does this cemetery still exist? If not, were the occupants moved? Are their any stones with readable names? Any info is appreciated.

Any thoughts on resources for cemeteries used for Union burials ?
Any info will be appreciated.

I'm searching for any info. on Robertson Russell (aka Roberson Russell, aka Robinson Russell). He disappears from the Cape Girardeau Co. tax records after 1864. He died May 21, 1864. His wife's name was Minerva Root Russell. I was able to get copy of his will (handwritten, but incomplete) @ public library in Jackson, MO. I would like to know the cause of his death, and would liek to get copy of his death cert. I discovered tht he is buried in Apple Creek Church cemetary, one mi. south of Pocahontas. What happened to his land holdings (854 acres at time of his death)? I would like to know type of agricultural and/or livestock operations he had on his land. In the 1864 tax records, a tan yard is listed. What type of tanning did he do? Possibly sheep hides? Where were the hides sent? For what purpose - shoes, other leathergoods? A son, Robert Russell (21 yrs. old when his father died) is reported as having followed Gen'l Shelby to Texas after the battle of Westport, and then into Mexico w/Shelby. This was the last ever heard of this son. Would also be interested in knowing if his widow, Minerva Root Russell ever remarried - when, to whom?
