    Transcription of Statement by Ellen A. Wright (nee Miller). Ellen was 85 years old when she wrote this statement and some of the facts she states contradicts other information made in family records. I have tried to transcribe this word for word, including misspellings and other errors. The document was typed with some handwritten insertions, which I have noted.

     

    TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

     

    STATE OF MISSOURI. COUNTY OF CAPE GIRARDEAU.

     

    I, Ellen A. Wright aged 85 years past hereby certify that I was born in the County of Cape Girardeau, State of Missouri, February 5, 1828. My parents were Alexander and Elizebeth Miller, both natives of Calvert County State of Maryland. My father was the son of John and Ellen Miller of Calbert County, State of Maryland, and my father married in Calvert County, Maryland to a Miss Elizabeth Jones. They were b oth memb ers of the Methodist Episcopal, Church of Calvert County, Maryland and brought their Church membership with them to Cape Girardeau County, Missouri in 1818. My father�s oldest son Benjamin Miller was born in Calvery County Maryland and came with my parents in 1818 to Cape Girardeau County Missouri. My parents Alexander and Elizebeth Miller lived on the farm now known as the Cape Girardeau County Poor Farm, as the County has purchased this farm.

     

    My parents, Alexander Miller and Elizebeth Miller was the parents of the following children my brother;

    1. Benjamin Miller was, born in Calvert County Maryland 1815 and came with his parents to Cape Girardeau County Missouri in 1818 and my parents came down the Ohio River to Cairo Illinois in a large keel boat, they were forty days coming down the Ohio River this was before Steam Boats and Rail Roads, and my brother Benjamin Miller married Amanda Poe, daughter of Isaih Poe by his first wife Sarah Poe, she had been a widow King before her marriage to Isiah Poe.
    2. My sister Barbera Elizabeth Miller was born in Cape Girardeau County Missouri and born about 1819 in Cape Girardeau County Missouri and she married a brother of my brother Benjamin Miller�s wife�s Brother Hasting Poe son of the above Isiah and Sarah Poe, and they had the following children;

    1.        Isiah Poe, a son and married a Miss Martha Williams daughter of Jacob Williams;

    2.        Sarah Poe and married Oscar Penny both dead

    and Benjamin Miller had the following children by his wife Amanda Poe Miller:

    1.        Barbera, and she married Thomas Penny both dead, no children.

    2.        Sarah Miller, she married John Williams she is dead , had children (inserted into the document in handwriting: Lou, Benjamin, William, Ellen, Sarah, Mary)

    3.        Elizabeth Miller, she married Louis Bean, she is dead. (inserted into the document in handwriting: children Mabel and Robert)

    4.        A.H. Miller M.D.

    5.        Annie Miller Juden

    6.        Mattie Miller and married (inserted into the document in handwriting: Jno J. Westerns)

    7.        Georgia Miller Daffron (this was handwritten into the document)

    8.        I. Ben Miller (this was handwritten into the document)

     

    My parents children continued,

     

    The third was a daughter, Mary Jane Miller she was born March 23, 1825 and she married William Nunn and Jesse Miller was the youngest child and son, he married and had a family and as stated was born in Cape Girardeau Missouri and 1855 I married my first husband Columbus George Henderson. Born in the house I am now living in now (June 25, 1913), living in 1811 his father was George Henderson a native of the State of Pennsylvania.

    Isah Poe was a native of North Carolina and was in the war of 1812 and 1815 had the following children by his first wife:

    Hastings Poe he married as above stated.

    Amanda Poe she married my brother Benjamin Miller.

    The Grand Parents of mine on paternal side was, John and Ellen Miller of Calvert County, Maryland and, Louis Poe daughter of the above Isiah Poe she married a W. W. Williams they are dead.

     

    I.                     Benjamin Miller is a son of the above Benjamin and Amanda Miller.
