Biographies of Buchanan County Residents:

Family of Peter Williamson by Donna Pfitzner  [email protected]

Peter Williamson was born about 1790 in what is present day Tyler County WV.  He was the son of Thomas Williamson and Elizabeth Anderson.  Peter married Delilah “Sarah”  McVey (McVay/McVeigh)  in Ohio County VA in 1817.  Sarah was born about 1795.  Sarah McVey was (I believe) the daughter of Edmund McVey and Elizabeth.     Peter Williamson died in 1879 in Buchanan County MO.

Peter Williamson is listed in the 1850 Buchanan County, Center twp, census.   Son Augustus is listed nearby with his family.  Also listed nearby is a family headed by William McVeigh.  I suspect he was a sibling to Delilah Sarah McVey and I would welcome correspondence with any of the ancestors of this McVeigh family.

Peter’s father Thomas Williamson and Sarah’s father Edmund McVey both served in the revolutionary war in the PA militia unit of Cpt Eleazer Williamson.  Thomas Williamson also served as a constable in Ohio County VA, now Tyler County WV.

Sometime around 1847-1848 Peter Williamson left VA and headed to MO.  Most of his adult children (some married with their own children) and other relatives came along.  Peter Williamson and wife Sarah remained in Buchanan County MO the rest of their lives.

Peter Williamson and wife Sarah had 11 children all born in VA.
