Mo Biography
- John W. King was born in 1864, and is
a son of John Allen and Doretta
(Pape) King, native of Tennessee and Germany, respectively.
John Allen
King was born in 1834, and was a farmer. When a young man he
came to
Missouri, after which he was married. He died in 1876. His
wife was
born in 1844, and died April15, 1886. They were the parents of
eight
children, five of whom are living. John W. was the third child,
and was
born in Missouri. When a boy he worked on his father's farm, and
attended the public schools of his county. In 1885 he entered
the
Mayfield-Smith Academy of Marble Hill, and after spending nearly
three
years in that institution he returned to his farm, and remained
a short
time. He taught school for two years, and is now engaged as
clerk for
the firm of McMinn & Slinkard. Mr. King was a successful
teacher, and
is one of the rising young men of Southeast Missouri. [p.
