M. M. as a corporal before this. Henry was enrolled in the 76th Feb 11, 1863 at Cassville and relieved from duty Mar 31, 1863. Apr 1, 1863 he is enrolled in Company G, 7th Regiment Provisional E. M. M. at Mount Vernon, Lawrence Co., MO and is later transferred to Company B. On Nov 1 1863 he enlisted in company B, 15th MO Cavalry for 20 months. He was given the rank of Farrier or private on the muster returns. At his muster in he is given a description of 38 years born in Granville Co., NC occupation of Blacksmith, Blue eyes, Gray hair, Fair complexion, Height 5 ft 11 in. Henry supplied his own horse and it's equipment, valued at $150 for the horse and $25 for the equipment. After the war Henry lived in Lawrence County, MO. His wife Mary filed for a widow's pension in Jul 1890. A H. B. Overton owned a hotel in Mount Vernon, Lawrence Co. MO in 1877. On the 1850 census there is a Henry Overton, 23 and a blacksmith in Epping Forest, Granville Co., NC. |
