| I remember that my grandmother said that Washburn was not a school that received funding for 12 years of education, so when students went through the last four years, or in other words, high school they called them 8th graders. My grandmother said she had four years of high school and the studies were for high school students but she graduated as an eight grader. The article seems to verify that information as correct. |

WASHBURN SCHOOL CLOSES The Washburn school closed on the 9th, with a nice program rendered by all the students who acquitted themselves with credit and showed they appreciated the kindness and pains their teachers have given them by the many tears that were shed at the parting. The 8th grade graduating exercise was held at the church on night of 9th, inst., and consisted of 9 girls and 3 boys. Each one rendered their parts in an essay song or declarations, with great credit to themselves and their teachers. Mrs. Blanche Parish had made a special effort to have a class equal to any that had ever graduated in the county. Those composing the class were: Misses Mellie Graham, Mary Techner, Nellie Ledenham, Margie and Mollie Adcock, Flora Ferguson, Edith Lamb, Ethel Snook, Ruth Berryhill, Linear N. Henbest, Clayton Parks, and Vernon Black. E. L. Henbest |
| Shirley said, "Mother has written on the back of this picture postcard "Lenear's graduation." Lenear Henbest was my grandfather's brother. I think he might be the second from the left in the front row. Lenear Henbest was my mother's paternal uncle, son of Ed and Fannie Henbest." |
| Donna said, "Ruth Berryhill, my grandmother is the third from the left. Also she is also pictured in this photo of 1920 and is seated second from the left." |
