THE HENRY GSSE FARMHOUSE ON WABASHA HILL
CHRISTINA, ALEX & VINCENT GSSE
"Come on, now, smile for the birdie!"
("We don't want to smile")
From the Webmaster ~ All three children are dressed very stylishly for the
period. The boy on the left is wearing a boy's blouse and bloused knickers
and the boy on the right appears to be wearing a Fauntleroy suit with knickers.
Both are wearing stylish straw hats. The girl is wearing a lovely Victorian-era
dress trimmed in lace, complete with white leggings and black strap sandals.
Her hair must have been very long to allow her mother to braid it, wrap
the braids around her head and tie it in matching bows. No matter how richly
attired these children were, they look as if they would rather be dressed
in everyday clothes and out playing!

NEIGHBORHOOD LADIES
Contributed by Bill Wisen
Here's an old picture I found with "Neighborhood Ladies" written on the back.
These ladies are from the neighborhood where my grandmother lived on the north
end of Lake City. I recognize her as "Theresa Eggenberger 2nd from left, front
row." I also recognize another lady as "Alice Bowen 1st lady from right, front
row." Theresa was my grandmother and I stayed with her in the summer months
during school vacation when I was about 10 years old. When I got bored, she
would encourage me to go see "Granny Bowen" who lived a block south of Theresa.
Alice and I would sit at her kitchen table and drink tea and eat cookies.
If someone else recognizes one of their ancestors here, please contact me
or the Webmaster. ~ Memories.

The photo was taken about 1900 in Horse Plains, Sanders Co. MT.
THE YOUNGS ~ SIBLEY PHOTO ALBUM
Contributed by Bernie Schwindt at [email protected]
The driver is likely Dellmont D. Thorp of Wabasha County, MN. The others
are unknown. Dellmont was the son of Thomas Thorp and Helen Prichard,
and was born about. 1866 in Minnesota. He married 1) Eliza Sibley, daughter
of Charles H. Sibley and Anna Youngs. Eliza died May 1902 and he married
2) Lola Hodges. 3) Third marriage was to Francis (Unknown). Dellmont Thorp's
date of death is unknown and last place of residence was the state of
Missouri.
This picture is possibly of members of the John Young family, however
I have no date or place of where the picture was taken.
The family settled in Mn. as early as 1854 with the oldest member of the
family being Jesse Youngs, born 1791 in Connecticut and died 1864 at Mazeppa,
Wabasha county, MN.
Jesse and his wife Martha McBride were the parents of five known children:
John J., Anna, Robert, Enoch C. and Mathilda Jane Youngs.
This photo appears to be a four-generations picture and I suspect the
elderly gent on right is Jesse Youngs, while the man in center may be
his oldest son John J. Youngs, however I have no definite identification.
Can anyone help?
Collateral lines marrying into the Youngs family were SIBLEY, HARRISON,
BUMP, OWENS, and HOOK, so this could also be any of these family members
as well.
l-r: Henry Howden "Howdy" Sibley, his wife Henrietta Amanda Youngs Sibley,
their granddaughter, Jessie Owen Cross, and her two sons, Verle A. and
Ralph Carlton Cross.
The photo was taken about 1912, most likely in Wabasha county, MN.
The elderly wife of Ralph Carlton is responsible for the identification.
Possibly Olive M. Sibley, daughter of Henry Howden "Howdy" Sibley and
Henrietta Amanda Youngs of Mazeppa, Wabasha county, Minnesota.
Olive was found on Census records, with her parents, until 1910, then
disappears after that.
She supposedly married a Mr. Bright or Pomroy/Pomeroy.
She was born August 1865 in Minnesota.
Said to be a sister to the above Olive M. Sibley. She could be Mabelle
Sibley, born about 1870 in Wabasha County, MN and died (single) on 11
Jan. 1890. She was buried in Mazeppa cemetery.
Or this could be another sister, Phebe M. Sibley, born July 1869 in Wabasha
county, MN.
I recieved these photos from a great grandaugher of Ruth Sibley, a sister
to these two women. According to information passed down in the family,
two of Ruth's sisters married: one to a Mr. Bright and one to a Mr. Pomroy/Pomeroy.
We have been unable to document that for a fact, but expect that all married
in Mazeppa, Wabasha County, MN as that is where they were raised and where
the parents, Henry "Howdy" Sibley and Henrietta Amanda Youngs resided
until their deaths in 1921 and 1920 respectively.
