Erland Widerstrand

Hallock, MN - Erland Widerstrand, 90, Hallock, died at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock, Friday, April 11, 2003.

Erland was born at Lancaster, Sept. 14, 1912, the son of Charles and Emma (Gusvason) Widerstrand. He grew up in St. Joseph Township of Kittson County and attended school there through the 8th grade. Erland served two years in the Army Air Force during WWII.

On March 7, 1947 he was united in marriage to Victoria Olsonoski at Lancaster. They were employed at the Glidden Dairy Farm until 1953 when they purchased a farm north of Lancaster. They lived there until the fall of 1991 when they moved to Hallock.

Erland drove school bus in the Lancaster school district for 20 years. He entered the healthcare center Feb. 28, 2003. His wife Victoria is also a resident there. He was a member of the Covenant Church of Lancaster.

Family members include his wife, Victoria; a son, Dale (Donna); three grandchildren, Jason, Sandra (Darrick) Bodek and Kevin; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Cora (Walter) Dietrich, Milwaukee, WI and Doryce (James) Hayes, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Ellen, Clara, Irma, Ethel and Florence; and three brothers, Elmer, Wallace and William.

Services were held Thursday, April 17, 2003, Lancaster Covenant Church. Rev. Martin Durfey presided.

Casket bearers were Paul Gillie, Ronald Johnson, Gary Olsonoski, Dick Sylvester, Elray Fertig and Craig Halvorson.

 

Hughes Funeral Home of Hallock was in charge of arrangements.
