Park Rapids, Minn. - James "Jim" G. Tri, 59, Park Rapids, formerly of Hallock, died at his home Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001.

Jim was born Aug. 12, 1942, in Hallock, to Quintin and Helen (Olson) Tri. It was in the nearby town of Humboldt that he attended school and grew into manhood. As a young man Jim took up bee keeping. Later, he ventured to Minneapolis where he drove city bus for a time.

In 1969, Jim returned to Hallock where he began working as a city policeman in a career that spanned over 27 1/2 years. From 1978 to 1997, Jim served as the Chief of Police for the city of Hallock. For many years Jim also served as the Civil Defense Director for Hallock.

On June 28, 1984, Jim was united in marriage to Kathy Schneider in East Grand Forks. In addition to law enforecement, Jim also enjoyed farming and would look forward each year to the sugar beet harvest.

He served as treasurer for the Kittson County Salvation Army. He also served as an EMT for the Kittson County Volunteer Ambulance Service.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Kathy; two daughters: Patti (Danny) Ristvedt, New Hope, and Michele (Dave) Lawrence, Detroit Lakes; two sons: Bryan Tri in the United States Air Force and Matthew at home; four grandchildren: D.J., Katie, Tyler and Justine; his mother, Helen Tri, Thief River Falls; one sister, Marie (Allen) Finney and one brother Pete Tri both of Thief River Falls, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his bather, his sister Kathryn and his brother, Tony.

Funeral services were 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, Calvary Lutheran Church, Park Rapids with Reverend Gene Broughton and Reverend Bill Meyer officiating. Pallbearers were Dale Hanson, Dennis Kinkead, Sid Lawrence, Ken Hennen, Jim Johnson and Andy Tri. Honorary pallbearers were all Law Enforcement Officers.

Interment was at the Bethel Cemetery near Park Rapids.

Jones Pearson Funeral Home, Park Rapids, was in charge of arrangements.
