George Nisbet Sr. arrived in Kittson County, Minnesota, in May 1881 from Sarnia, Ontario bringing 8 of his 9 children with him. He homesteaded on the SE 1/4 34-164-50 (Joe River) St. Vincent Township receiving his patent in 1886. He farmed here through the 1880's and 1890's and raised his children before selling his farm to George Ash in October 1902. The date and place of his death are unknown but he is buried in Joe River Cemetery. George was active in the National Farmers Alliance being president of the local chapter of this populist political organization in 1890.
