Thief River Falls, Minn. - Clifford Homstad, 87, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003 at Oakland Park Nursing Home, Thief River Falls.
Clifford Francis Homstad was born Sept. 29, 1915 in rural Hallock, son of Elias and Annie (Johnson) Homstad.
He grew up in rural Hallock and attended Riverside School Dist. #29 and graduated from the Agricultural College in Crookston, in 1935.
He worked in California and Washington and returned home for a time before entering the United States Army in 1942. He served for three years, stationed in Italy and the U.S. during WWII.
On July 30, 1946, Clifford was united in marriage to Genevieve Irene Keuhn in Eureka, S.D. The couple lived in International Falls, where he worked for the paper mill.
They returned to the Homstad family farm in 1947 in rural Hallock where the couple farmed for many years. Clifford worked for Hallett Construction from 1959 to 1969. They returned to Thief River Falls in 1988. Clifford's wife of 56 years, Genevieve, died January of 2003. Clifford resided in Thief River Falls since February of 2002.
Clifford enjoyed reading, politics, farming and studying religion. He was an active member of the Farmers Union, served on the Lake Bronson School Board and Kittson County FHA Board. He was an active member of the United Church of God.
Survived by six childrenL: Deanna (Lester) Hanson, Torrance, Calif.; Marcia (friend Bob Nelson) Sandahl, Thief River Falls; Jennifer (Marshall) Vagle, Thief River Falls; Jeffery (Annette) Homstad, Hallock; Cynthia (Ken) Cedergren, Thief River Falls; and Kimberely (Jerry) Stormo, East Grand Forks; 15 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; three sisters: Grace Brown, Hallock; Lenore Foss, Grand Rapids; Myrtle Boring of Ventura, Calif. and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by wife, Genevieve, son Milo in 1968, parents, one brother Maurice and two sisters Beulah Soderberg and Lorranine Homstad who died in infancy.
Honorary pallbearers: All of Clifford's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers: Nathan Satterlund, Chris Hanson, Brian Sandahl, Jacob Homstad, Kyle Cedergren, Matthew Vagle.
Funeral services were 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at Sion Lutheran Church, Lancaster, with Reverend Tim Lundeen officiating. Burial was at Two River Cemetery, Hallock.
