Ronald Bjornberg

Rochester, Minn. - Ronald E. Bjorberg, 69, Rochester, a staff programmer at IBM, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at Rochester Methodist Hospital.

Bjornberg was born July 24, 1934, in rural Kittson County, to Joe and Margaret (Wolf) Bjornberg. He grew up on a farm in Hazleton Township and attended Riverside country school and Lake Bronson Consolidated School. He graduated from Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis in 1952, attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis for two years and later took courses at Rochester Junior College.

He workd for Swanberg Scheefee Buick and Concleco, a contract, cleaners, and consulting firm, in Minneapolis, and for a shor time at Eklund Leuck Turkey Farm in Hilmar, California.

On May 18, 1957, he married Constance R. "Connie" Renner in West Concord.

From February 1957 to May 1960, he served in the Army Signal Corps, was stationed in Japan for 2 1/2 years and was a member of the Army Chapel Choir. After his discharge, he worked at Owatonna Tool Co.

Bjornberg was a staff programmer at IBM in Rochester from 1960 to 1990 and since his retirement had worked supplemental at IBM. He lived in Elgin from 1968 until moving to Rochester in 2002.

He served with the volunteer ambulance service in Elgin, was a Boy Scout leader and a member of First Baptist Church, where he was an usher, was active in Oasis Group and served as Boys Brigade leader. He enjoyed woodcarving, woodworking, reading, fishing, camping, eating out, traveling, gardening, and telling jokes.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Andrea (Troy) Pock, Camillus, NY, and Rosemary (Douglas) Siewert, Burnsville; two sons, Brian (Sandy), Woodland Park, Colo., and Steven (Michelle), Highland Village, Texas; six grandchildren; a sister, Jodell (Patrick) Kline, St. Paul; and two brothers, Eldred (Peggy), Turah Pines, Mont., and Arden (Janice) of St. Paul.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter and a brother.

Services for Ronald E. Bjornberg were 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20 at First Baptist Church in Rochester, with the Rev. C. John Steer officiating.

Burial was in Old Concord Cemetery in Concord Township, Dodge County.

Military honors were accorded by Rochester American Legion.
