In the Kittson County Enterprise newspaper dated Dec. 12, 1984: under the weekly article called "In Days Gone By" the following article appeared from the first publication in the paper on December 18, 1931.
Major Baldwin, Father of Philip Baldwin, Officer in charge of the immigration port at Noyes, is credited with finding the route through the Rocky Mountains for the Great Northern Railway. The Great Falls Tribune, in a recent issue, gives an account of the discovery. In 1889, when the railroad wanted a way through the mountains they employed Marcus Baldwin as he was familiar with the country. Major Baldwin was a lawyer in the Flathead area of Montana and was Indian Agent at the Blackfoot Agency.
Baldwin, Rose Elizabeth (Lehn)
Rose E. Baldwin, age 103 of Humboldt, Minnesota, passed away at the Kittson Memorial Nursing Home in Hallock, Minnesota on Saturday, September 28, 1996.
Rose Elizabeth Lehn was born in a sod house in Roberts County, South Dakota (near Browns Valley, Minnesota) on July 2, 1893. Her parents were Nicholas and Mary (Rehfuss) Lehn. Rose had two sisters, Emma McDonnell and Mary Meyers, and a brother Frank Lehn. She grew up and completed high school at Browns Valley and then moved with her family to Kalispell, Montana where she received training in typing and shorthand. She taught in a business school in Kalispell where she met Phil Baldwin. They were married December 5, 1916 in El Paso, Texas.
In 1920, Phil became officer in charge of the U.S. Immigration Office at Noyes, Minnesota and Rose worked there many years as a secretary. She was preceded in death by her husband Phil Baldwin, one daughter Sarah (Mrs. Verne Hunt) her parents, brother and sisters. After her husband Phil died, Rose moved to Redondo Beach, California and worked several years in a law firm as a legal secretary.
Surviving are her children, Phil and Jean Baldwin, of El Segundo, CA, Mary and Erwin Retzlaff of Las Vegas, NV, Mark and Joyce Baldwin and Rose E. Baldwin, Jr. of Humboldt, MN. At the time of her hundredth birthday in 1993, Rose had living descendants through great-great grandchildren that totaled one hundred.

Rose Baldwin, 79, Hallock, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center.
Rose E. Baldwin was born in Helena, MT, March 21, 1920, the daughter of Phil and Rose (Lehn) Baldwin
When Rose was about one year old her father moved to Noyes, Minn., to manage the Immigration Office at the border. Her family moved to St. Vincent, when she started school.
They moved to Humboldt a couple of years later and she completed most of her schooling there. She finished high school in Mr. St. Benedict at Crookston.
She attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and became a dietitian. She worked at various hospitals including Crookston, Thief River Falls, International Falls and Walker.
Surviving are brothers, Phil (Jean) Baldwin, El Segundo, CA; Mark (Joyce) Baldwin, Humboldt; and sister, Mary (Erwin) Retzlaff, Las Vegas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Sarah (Verne) Hunt.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 5, 10 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock.
Hughes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
