1. THOMAS A RICE. Born on 22 May 1827 in STUEBEN COUNTY N.Y. THOMAS A died in PINE CITY, PINE COUNTY, MINN. on 11 Aug 1904, he was 77. Buried in BIRCHWOOD CEMETERY PINE COUNTY MINN. Occupation: farmer, ferry captain and lumberman.

On 13 Sep 1852 when THOMAS A was 25, he married ANNA ELIZA JENKYNS, daughter of WILLIAM P JENKYNS & SUSANNA SMITH, in OSHKOSH, WISC. Born on 27 Apr 1837 in CHILDERDITCH ESSEX COUNTY ENGLAND. ANNA ELIZA died in PINE CITY, PINE COUNTY, MINN. on 5 Jun 1891, she was 54.

OLD PINE CITY RESIDENT DIES FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 2 1904 THOMAS RICE ALTHOUGH AILING FOR THE PAST SIX YEARS, PASSES AWAY SUDDENLY.CONDUCTED RICE'S FERRY FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS, AN INTERESTING CONVERSATIONALIST MR. THOMAS RICE ONE OF THE PIONEERS OF THESE PARTS AND AN INTERESTING FIGURE IN PINE CITY FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS PASSED SUDDENLY AWAY AT HIS HOME IN THE EXTREME SOUTH PART OF TOWN, LAST SATURDAY AT 12M. HE WAS AFFLECTED WITH AN AGGRIVATED MALADY OF HICCOUGHS FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS AND HAD NOT BEEN WELL FOR THE PAST SIX YEARS. THE NEWS OF HIS DEATH CAME AS A SHOCK TO THE COMMUNITY FOR ALTHOUGH AWARE THAT HE WAS INDISPOSED, HIS SUDDEN DIMISE WAS UNEXPECTED. THOMAS RICE WAS BORN IN STUEBEN COUNTY N.Y. MAY 22, 1827 AND WAS 77 YEARS, 3 MONTHS AND 5 DAYS OLD AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH.BUT A MERE YOUTH HE IMIGRATED WEST TO OSHKOSH, WISCONSIN AN EVEN FURTHER WEST INTO THE WILDS OF THE THE SPARSELY SETTLED COUNTRY IN 1874 AND SETTLED ATTHE MOUTH OF THE SNAKE RIVER AND LIVED ON THE WISCONSIN SIDE CONDUCTING THE FERRY. AT THAT POINT KNOWN AS RICE'S FERRY.FOR TEN YEARS AFTER WHICH HE MOVED TO PINE CITY WHERE HE HAS SINCE MADE HIS HOME. HE WAS MARRIED AT OSHKOSH, WIS. SEPT 13, 1853 TO MISS ANNA ELIZA JENKINS WHO PROCEEDED HIM TO THE GREAT UNKNOWN FIVE YEARS AGO. TEN CHILDREN WERE THE RESULT OF THIS UNION AND SIX SURVIVE TO MOURN THE LOSS OF THIS KIND AND LOVING PARENT, MR. RICE BORE HIS SUFFERINGS WITH GREAT FORTITUDE. HE WAS UPRIGHT, HONEST AND WHOLE SOULED AND WAS BOUND TO WIN THE ESTEEM OF ALL HE CAME IN CONTACT. THE FURNERAL TOOK PLACE AT THE M.E. CHURCH IN THIS VILLAGE MONDAY AFTERNON AT 2 O'CLOCK. THE PASTOR REV. GG FERGUSON DELIVERED AN IMPRESSION SERMON AND A SPECIAL CHOIR WAS PRESENT AND RENDERED A NUMBER OF SELECTIONS APPROPRIATE FOR THE OCCASION. BIRCHWOOD CEMETERY WAS SELECTED AS THE LAST RESTING PLACE OF ALL THAT WAS MORTAL OF THE GOOD MAN AND HIS REMAINS NOW LIE THERE BESIDE THOSE WHO HAD GONE BEFORE.

DROPPING OFF ONE BY ONE Mrs. Thomas Rice an old Resident Dies On Monday afternoon June 5th 1899 at about 5:00pm Mrs. Thomas Rice passed peacefully away at her home in this place. Miss Anna Jenkins was born in Essex County, England, in 1837, and left England in 1848 coming to Oshkosh, Winnibago County, Wis., where she was married to Mr. Thomas Rice. Mr. Rice moved with his family to Grantsburg about 22 years ago and came to this village 18 years ago where they lived ever since until a year ago when the went to Minneapolis on account of Mrs. Rices health. She had been suffering from cancer for a number of years back and went for medical treatment. They returned about two months ago and since then Mrs. Rice health has been failing steadily and death came to her relief at the above mentioned time. Mrs. Rice was a kind and indulgent mother, and a good neighbor. None knew her but to love and respect her. She leaves an aged husband, four sons and two daughters, a sister, and several nieces, nephews and a large number of other relatives to mourn her loss. The sons are Charles and Ezra, of Grantsburg, Wis. Alfred and Will of this place, and the daughters, Mrs. Georgianna Morrison, of Le Seurer County, and miss Amber of this place. The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 from ME Church, the Rev. H Taylor officiating, with interment in Birchwood Cemetery. The church was most beautifully decorated with flowers. The pallbearers were George Payne, Albert Pennington, A.H. Lambert, A.C. Burger, A.F. Brackett and H.J. Rath. The Ladies aid society of the me church of which deceased was a member, marched in body. The pioneer extends its sympathy to the bereaved family.

            v. WILL H. WILL H died in PINE CITY MINN in 1923, he was 57. Born on 6 Aug 1865 in WISCONSIN.

In 1883 when WILL H was 17, he married TENA OLSON, daughter of LUDWICK OLSON & JOHANNA, in GRANTSBURG, WISCONSIN. Born on 6 Aug 1865 in NORWAY. TENA died in MINNEAPOLIS, MINN on 17 Jun 1945, she was 79.

WILLIAM RICE FUNERAL TODAY Funeral services were held this afternoon for William Rice and the remains will be laid to rest in the local cemetery. He passed away at his home here last Tuesday morning. The obituary and complete particulars will be given in the next issue of the poker.

TENA O. RICE LAID AT REST Tena O. Rice well known former resident of Pine City for 50 years passed away Sunday June 17 at the home of her sister at 912 6th St south, Minneapolis. She had been in ill health for the past six years, and passed away at the age of 79 years. Furneral services were held on Saturday, June 23rd from Swanson Funeral Chapel, Pine City at 2:oo o'clock. Rev Charlie Blake officiated at the ceremony and Mrs. Blake was the vocalist accompanied by Richard Blake. Interment was made in the Birchwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were John D. Wilcox, Frank Van Gaal, Joe Kuiter and Norman Lindahl. Tena O. Rice was born in Norway August 6, 1865, the daughter of Ludwick and Johanna Olson. She came to the United State in 1877, settling in Wisconsin. At Grantsburg, Wisconsin she was united in marriage to Wm. Rice in 1883. They then came to Pine City where they made their home. Mr. Rice preceded his wife in death some years ago and about 1939 Mrs. Rice moved to Minneapolis. Surviving are two brothers and one sister.

2. GEORGIA ANN RICE MORRISON. Born on 3 Jun 1861 in OSKOSH, WISCONSIN. GEORGIA ANN RICE died in DULUTHMINNESOTA on 7 Sep 1928, she was 67. Buried in EVERGREEN CEMETERY. Occupation: SEAMSTRESS. Religion: METHODIST.

On 16 Jun 1877 when GEORGIA ANN RICE was 16, she married JAMES ANDREW MORRISON, son of JOHN WESLEY MORRISON & MARY ELLEN FORQUERAN, in PINECITY, PINE MINNESOTA. Born in Mar 1851 in CHARLESTON VIRGINIA. JAMES ANDREW died in BRAINARD MINN. on 12 May 1917, he was 66.

On 4 Jul 1880 when CHARLES G was 24, he married MARY ROBERTS, in ST CROIX FALLS, WISC.

4. ALFRED T RICE . ALFRED T died in LODI CALIFORNIA on 14 Oct 1929, he was 70. Born on 6 Jul 1859 in GRANTSBURG, WISCONSIN. Occupation: FARMER.

ALFRED T married IDA JANE SOMES, daughter of SOMES & SEE MARGARET JENKYNS. Born in 1859. IDA JANE died in LODI, CALIFORNIA on 5 Nov 1934, she was 75.

5. KEITH ARTHUR RICE. Born on 25 Dec 1866 in WISCONSIN. KEITH ARTHUR died in ST. PAUL, MINN. on 11 Nov 1895, he was 28. Buried in BIRCHWOOD CEMETERY PINE CITY, MINN. Occupation: railroad brakeman.

In 1894 when KEITH ARTHUR was 27, he married MARY SCHMAIL, daughter of HENRY SCHMAIL & CHRESTINA, in PINE CITY, MINN. Born in Jan 1875 in WESTFIELD, DODGE COUNTY, MINN.

DEATH OF KEITH RICE IT IS OUR SAD DUTY IN HIS ISSUE TO PUBLISH THE DEATH OF KEITH ARTHUR RICE, YOUNGEST SON OF MR. AND MRS. RICE OF THIS PLACE. KEITH WAS BORN IN OSHKOSH WISCONSIN ON THE 25TH DAY OF DECEMBER 1866, AND WAS AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH IN HIS 29TH YEAR. HE WAS INJURED IN ST. PAUL BY THE CARS RUNNING OVER HIM ON THE 25TH OF JULY, THE REPORT OF WHICH WAS PUBLISHED IN THIS PAPER. HE WAS A SOBER INDUSTRIOUS YOUNG MAN, A MEMBER OF TH AOUW WHICH ORDER ACCOMPANIED THE REMAINS IN A BODY TO THIS PLACE, WHERE HE WAS BURIED FROM THE ME CHURCH, F.H. FEETHAM PREACHING THE FURNERAL SERMON ON THURSDAY. HE WAS LAID TO REST IN BIRCHWOOD CEMETERY. THE PIONEER JOINS ITS SYMPATHIES WITH HIS MANY FRIENDS FOR THE BEREAVED FAMILY.

OBIT: PRUDENCE RICE (mother of Thomas Rice)
SUN PRAIRIE COUNTRYMAN-DECEMBER 10, 1891
RICE- At her home in Windsor Township. December 4, 1891, Mrs Prudence Rice died aged 88 years. Prudence Powers was born in Vermont in 1803 and was married to Levi Rice in 1821. They were among the early settlers of this state. Nine of their fifteen children are now living. It is the testimony of friends that Mrs. Rice has lived a consistant Christian life, that she was kind and gentle to all and was respected by all who knew her. The funeral services were held at the school House at Token Creek at 2 O'clock PM December 6 and she was laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining.
