DOUGLAS COUNTY GENEALOGY GUILD: Overview

Douglas County Genealogy Guild

The Douglas County Genealogy Guild was established in July 2004, by a small group of people with an interest in the finding and preservation of their family's history for the future. Our Guild is under the auspices of the Douglas County Historical Society at 1219 Nokomis Street, Alexandria Minnesota 56308.

Our meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at 5:30 - 7:30 P.M. in the lower level of the Historical Society. Some of our programs have included guest speakers, how-to's on the computer, ethnic events, overview of resources available, research nights, a trip to the Swedish Institute and other Historical Societies, etc.

For the yearly dues of $15.00 (single) the membership benefits include:

-Our newsletter, The Roots Cellar, which is published quarterly and is included in the DCHS Newsletter -

-Free research for members of the Guild in the Research Library -

-Access to our Historical Society library of information that includes numerous books on how to begin and complete your research project; where to go for information; as well as books and resources on other countries. We have Douglas County, city and township history information, biography files, church, school and cemetery information, Federal Census for Minnesota including the 1930 census, Alexandria newspapers on microfilm through 2005, as well as neighboring town newspapers.
