Sorrenson while he lived in Dodge County? Caroline was my husbands great
aunt--his grandfather, Carl J. Johnson's sister. Perhaps there would have
been a newspaper ad about his dry goods store, etc. or an obituary
for either Oliver H. SORRENSON (died in 1882) or even about the child

I am trying to locate a town or place, by the name of Eagle Valley. I
have a picture of a house owned by my great grandparents George and Phoebe
SACKETT and it says that it was in Eagle Valley. I'm not sure it's in Dodge Co,
but this is where all my Sackett ancestors were from. Any help would be greatly

My g-grandfather, James Pratt, farmed 80 acres in the northeastern part of
Milton Township in Dodge County in the 1860s and 1870s. He married my
g-grandmother, Margretta, sometime in 1863 and my grandfather, William Lamont,
was born in July of 1864. James spent the next year serving in the Union Army,
being discharged in September of 1865. Margretta died in September of 1866 at
the age of 20. Family tradition says she died in childbirth. She is buried in
the Pine Island Cemetery, but I have found no records of her death. I have been
unsuccessful in determining who her family was. I have a letter written to her
by a sister, Charlotte Holman, who lived in Pine Island at one time. I have
reason to believe the sisters were named Leach, but I'd sure like some

seeking information on a rev. WOOD, he officated with rev. B.C. GILLIS at
the funeral of PHILLIP E. HASE, Nov. 3, 1897. I believe that this
might be a possible relative of Phillips' wife Hannah. Phillip and Hannah are
buried in maple grove cemetery and i am sorry, i don't know anything about the
Rev. wood, but since in Phillip Hases' obit listed him as living in byron and
that is in dodge co., i was assuming that he was maybe there sometime.
Phillip and his wife came to dodge county between 1862-1870. thanks for

I am looking for any/all information on my g.g.grandparents.- They both were born
in Glarus, Switzerland, and left their home country in 1872, although the
exact date is not known. (this is the date where information for this family,
"stops" in the Archives in Glarus).- My g.g.grandfather was
Mathias Eduard MARTI- he was born 11 Feb. 1845 in Engi, Glarus,
Switerland.- dod- unknown. He married, first, Katharina LEUZINGER on 10
Sept.1868. This couple had one son, Johannes MARTI born on 12 Jan. 1869.
Katharina died 3 months later, in the hospital of Glarus, on 6 April, 1869.
Mathias Eduard MARTI then married Barbara SCHLITTLER on 10 May, 1870.
Barbara was born on 15 Aug., 1849 in Niederurnen, Glarus, Switzerland. dod-
unknown. This couple had two more children while still living in Switzerland,
they were Anna Maria MARTI born 29 Dec.,1870 and Samuel MARTI born 4 June,
1872.- The records state: "This family emigrated to North America,
nothing was heard of them since their departure. The civil court of Glarus
declared in 1946 all of the above as missing and presumed dead, with effective
date of July 4, 1872."- I DO know that this couple had other
children, I believe 10 in all. My g.grandfather, Edward Nicolaus MARTI being
one. Although, by the time of his birth, which was 10 Aug. 1883, the last name
had been changed to MARTIN. He was born in Allegheny, Pa., the family
has always believed that his parents came to Pa., from Switzerland....
however, after MANY searches on my part... I have not been able to find them in
that state until the 1880 census!?.... Which, when I found them, I also
discovered that not only did my g.g.grandfather change our surname, he also
"dropped" the use of HIS first name, and was by then using his middle
name.... this too he changed from "Eduard", to "Edward".
WHY he/they 1.Changed our surname, 2. no longer used his given first
name, or 3. never reported back to their home canton I have no clue.. they are
some of the questions I hope to answer! Since I wasn't able to
"find" the family in Pa... I started to go back over my notes.. and I
found an Uncle of my g.g.grandfather's by the name of Mathaus, (correct
spelling has two ".." above the 2nd "a"..but, my PC will
not allow me to do these?!...) anyhow, Mathaus, the uncle, left Switzerland in
1866 with his new bride, Maria LUCHSINGER.- The settled in Minnesota, and some
in the family think that it MAY have been in Dodge Co.?- The records in the
Archives of Glarus state: "Mathaus MARTI born 25 Oct.
1840 and his young wife, Maria LUCHSINGER, born 28 March, 1846
emigrated to North America to Minnesota, on 26 March, 1866 to 'follow a brother
of the wife's'- This couple had no children, and Mathaus died in 1902 in
Minnesota" After reading this, I went back to my records for my
g.g.grandparents, and I saw on the 1880 census for Allegheny, Pa., that they had
a daughter, age 1 yr., with a place of birth being listed as Minnesota.- This
lead me to believe that perhaps when my g.g.grandparents left their home
country, they in fact came to Minnesota, as they would've had some family
already there.?- Since I am not sure of the location in MN, where the
uncle lived, I am starting my search of the state in Dodge co.- To date,
I have been doing searches using my g.g.grandfather's given birth name of
Mathias, I now believe that perhaps I should look for him under "Edward"?-
I want to find out whatever happen to the uncle and his wife. Where they died,
and where they are buried. Did they in fact, never have a child?- Along these
same lines, I have found my g.g.grandmother listed in the 1900, and 1910
census, again in Allegheny, Pa., however in each, she is listed as 'head
of household", from this, I have to think that my g.g.grandfather
had passed away by 1900.- I want to find where he died, and where he, as well
as his wife, and the rest of the family is buried.?- Also, in the
1880 census, Johannes, the first born son on Mathias and his first wife, is NOT
listed?- WHERE IS he?? He would've only been 11 years old.. did he die sometime
between 1872, and 1880, and if so, where? when? where is he buried?- Did he
stay in Minnesota with his father's uncle for some reason?- The records in
the Archives do say that he "emigrated to North America with his father,
(step) mother, sister, and brother".- It is yet another "family
mystery that I want to slove". The family spoke German, and I
believe that they were Lutheran.- Did MN have a census in 1875? If so,
would anyone be able to look for this family in the records for me?.... I have
cked for a census for this same yr. for Allegheny Pa., but so far, have not
been able to find any.... people tell me that they don't think there was one?-
Does anyone know of any MARTI families living in Dodge Co, or the
surrounding area? Perhaps any MARTIN's? I don't know if my g.ggrandparents
where the "only" MARTI's to change their surname to MARTIN?- I also
don't know the middle name of the uncle, Mathaus, and don't know if he too
poss. dropped his first name, and used his middle? It would appear that
unlike my g.g.grandfather, the uncle, Mathaus DID report back to his home
canton......if not, the records contained in the Archives there would not have
the information on them, that they do.. such as the year he died.- This leads
me to think that perhaps he did in fact keep and use his given birth name.

Researching - Harmon HOUK and Almira "BENJAMIN" HOUK My
ggrandmother Ida Mae HOUK was born 1864 in Mantorville, Dodge County, MN.
Her brother Clifford was born MN. abt 1866. It appears Harmon came from
WI and lived in MN between 1860-1870. Harmon and Almira were from NY or
PA. Harmon also had an older son Frank living with him, born in WI about
1860. Frank was not the son of Almira The 1880 census shows
Harmon's family, now 7 children and a new wife Amanda EVANS in

James Casey - (possibly James L. Casey) The last I heard of him he
was in Mantorville, MN in 1978-79. He would be in his 70's by now. He wore an
eye patch. Someone told me that he ran a photographic shop in Mantorville for
awhile. It was the kind where you dress in period clothes and get a photo done.
He used to be an auctioneer in 60's, maybe he kept it up. I also heard a rumor
that he had some sort of a pony and cart rig to give rides to children. He
used to live on Bear Lake, near Emmons MN in the mid-60's then was
divorced and moved away from there. Mantorville is the last I have on

I am researching the famil;y of Michael & Aase RINDAHL who lived in
Vernon Township, DOdge Co, Minn. I have found them on the 1870 & 1880
census in that place. There is no 1890 census to look at. I am
trying to find the death & burial of Aase RINDAHL sometime between 1880 and
1897. I believe she might be buried in the Lutheran Churchyard in Vernon.

Hello! I am looking for information about the Herbert HARMER
and Elizabeth Denny SWAM family. Herbert Harmer was b. 4 Mar 1852
Green Lake County, Wisconsin, married 4 Feb 1874 to Elizabeth Denny Swam in
Kasson, Dodge, Minnesota, died 10 Nov 1926 in Cannon Falls, Goodhue, Minnesota,
and was buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Dodge Center, Dodge,
Minnesota. His parents are Matthew HARMER and Mary Ann SKINNER.
Elizabeth was born 1 Jul in Stillwater or Elizabethtown, New Jersey, died 9 Mar
1930 in St. Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota, and is also buried in the Riverside
Cemetery. Her parents are John SWAM and Elizabeth DENNY.
I believe they had nine children: two Elizabeths that died in infancy or
stillborn, Herbert Francis (sp. Mabel DAGGETT) , Richard Denny (sp. Lucy
Blanche INGHAM), Paul Matthew (sp. Gladys JOHNSON), Pearl
Elizabeth (sp. Charles Lester COWELL), Clifford (sp. Neva Belle MATTISON),
and Velva Salome Harmer (sp. John Delbert NOREEN).
I am missing some information on the children of Herbert and Elizabeth and
Matthew Harmer's family, and I have hardly any information on Elizabeth's
parents or siblings. I would really appreciate any information on these
