GenWeb History
St. Clair County, Michigan
              Genealogy on the Web

In early 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Michigan Comprehensive Genealogy Database, later renamed Michigan GenWeb, or MIGenWeb. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Michigan, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index. The concept followed an original plan developed in Kentucky, which has grown into the national USGenWeb Project and many other international affiliates.

At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of these county web pages. Gary Lee Phillips was the original host of the St. Clair County MIGenWeb site beginning in mid 1996. Tom Kephart assumed the County Coordinator's role from Gary in December 1998.  The current county coordinator adopted this site in April 2000.  If you would like to contribute to this project as a volunteer please visit the MIGenWeb home page for information and a list of counties up for adoption.

Email the county coordinator any obituaries, photographs or other materials you wish to have posted at this site.
