mourning period or Catholic Mass and church services being held in her honor. We would like to thank the Michigan
State Police, the postal and newspaper carriers, and all the wonderful people of the area that would periodically
stop by the little house on Range Road just to see how "Kate" was doing and ask if there was anything
they could do for her. We would also like to thank all the local merchants that always seemed to have that little
extra for Kate when she was doing her shopping. We would appreciate every one stopping by her final resting place

wonderful lady named Kate. You will be greatly missed and may God rest your soul. The Densmore Family. Arrangements

brother and two sister, as to why we feel his actions are correct and needed. On Dec. 2, my mother, Catherine Gill
Sendmore, drove into the yard, turned off the car and fell over from a massive stroke. Three days later in the
hospital, her doctor informed me she was still bleeding and would not survive. According to her previous wishes,
I made arrangements to disconnect her feeding tube and respirator. When my brother and two sisters arrived from
out of state, this was done. The following day, my mother was removed from the intensive care ward and placed in
a regular ward because she was no longer an emergency patient, but a "long-term care" patient. A day
later, I spoke with her local physician and requested he accept her as a patient if I could transfer her to a local
hospital. He agreed. The problem arose when Port Huron Hospital, Mercy Hospital and River District Hospital would
not accept her. One of the facilities told me point blank that they would not get enough money from Medicare for
her care. St. John's informed me that I must make arrangements for her transfer as she was no longer an emergency
patient, but was now long-term care, even though she was expected to die at any moment. There were no Medicare
beds available in the county, thanks to our county commissioners who closed the medical center. Faith Medical Center
in St. Clair did have a special bed available that my mother could use until a Medicare bed became available, but
it cost a basic $75 per day with extras, which I could not afford on my disability retirement pay. I moved my mother's
bed into the living room and put side rails on it and made arrangements to move her home on Dec. 11 so she could
die in peace. After a late inquiry, one local hospital informed me that it was making an attempt to change a policy
to accept her, as she had very little time to live. The day before the transfer I called the hospital in question
and was informed it could not accept her because her doctor would not take her as a patient. Later, I found this
to be untrue. In the end, it did not matter. The evening before she was to come home to her bed to die, I received
a phone call from St. John's telling me I should come down as she was in a bad way.She died as I was exiting the
freeway. She often said that she never wished to live if she lost the power of speech and was unable to take care
of herself. But because of the medical society's refusal to address the problem that society as a whole is aging
and provisions must be made to allow, as Dr. Jack Kevorkian is attempting to do, the terminally ill to die in peace
with dignity, my mother was simply treated like a used piece of meat at the end. The medical community made all
the money it could off of her and when it could make no more, we were more or less told to get her out of here.
Some dignity and peace. The American Medical Association and legislators at the state and federal levels must address
this issue. The legislators in Lansing took the simpleton way out. They passed a law that would put me in prison
for four years for helping her to die, which I would have done if she had come home. To all those individuals from
the dispatchers of the police/fire departments, the ambulance personnel, the nurses and doctors and support staff
who did their best to comfort and aid my mother, my family and I wish to thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
You will not be forgotten. To those of the American Medical Association, the members of the hospital staff who
feel the all-mighty dollar is more important that the individual, as well as state and federal lawmakers who refuse
to address this issue, my family and I wish to convey two things to you. First, we hope there is a special place
in hell for you where you may suffer for all eternity. Second, go there. David J. Densmore, St. Clair"

Electa
Sophia Deyoe
"Electa Sophia Deyoe, was born in Amherst, Hampshire county, Mass., May 29, 1836, and died at her home in
Detroit, February 21, 1892 at 7 o'clock p.m. aged nearly 56 years. Mrs. Deyoe was the daughter of Dr. S. Gilbert,
of this city, and came to St. Clair with her parents in 1846. She was married to Heman Deyoe July 24, 1857 and
was the mother of four children-E. H. Deyoe M. D., Ada M., Arthur A. and Berkley A., the daughter dying some years
since. The three sons were all graduates from the University at Ann Arbor and while they were attending school
the devoted mother removed from St. Clair to Ann Arbor in order that her boys might have a home while preparing
themselves to fight the battle of life. After Arthur and Berkley graduated last June, the former in dentistry and
the latter in law, she resided in this city dividing her time with her father and her son, Dr. E. H. Deyoe until
the time when Berkley accepted a position with a law firm in Detroit in February at which time the deceased removed
to that city that her son might again have a home. Little did they realize how soon that home was to be broken
up. She was taken sick the twelfth day of February which illness terminated fatally last Sunday, her ailment being
congestion of the liver. By her death a father, one sister, four brothers and three sons are left to mourn a dearly
loved, daughter, sister and mother. Mrs. Deyoe became a member of the Methodist church while living in Port Sanilac
but while a resident in St. Clair attended the Congregational church. Always a devoted and living mother her absence
will be sadly missed by those loved one left behind. Her remains arrived in St. Clair Tuesday morning and were
conveyed to the home of her father from which place the funeral services were held at 2 o'clock in the afternoon,
W. B. Millard officiating. The large attendance of symbolizing friends speak louder than words of the esteem in
which the deceased was held by St. Clair people. The remains were laid to rest in St. Clair City cemetery. The
family and relatives desire to return their heartfelt thanks to their friends for the many acts of kindness rendered
during the illness and burial of the deceased."

Emily
Amelia (Parker) Donaldson
"Emily Amelia Parker was born in Casco township, April 9th, 1860. Her parents began their career in life with
but little of this world's goods, but they wanted their children to have an education and nothing was left undone
on their part to accomplish it. Emily was a bright student; she taught school in Casco before she was 15 years
old, also taught in other places. Then she became a pupil at the St. Clair school and graduated with the class
of '81. She then taught one year in St. Clair high school, then went to St. Paul and taught school for eight years,
and while there she endeared herself to many of her earnest, faithful teachings. She was quite a worker in the
church and Sunday school, but she longed for something higher and better. She studied and passed her examination
in 1890, and was sent by the Baptist Board of Michigan to Nimpo, China; there she spent two years, liked her work
and was loved by the poor heathen women and children who were so anxious to learn of Jesus. Sickness compelled
Miss Parker to return home much to her sorrow. She advised with several physicians, but never recovered. On the
4th of May last, she was united in marriage to Mr. Gilbert Donaldson, of Minneapolis. She left her parents with
bright and happy thoughts for the future; she went to their home and found three boys and two girls who were pleased
to call her mother; she filled her place well and satisfactorily, but alas it was of short duration; the sickness
that she contracted crossing the ocean, came back with renewed force and she submitted to surgical treatment; for
awhile 'twas thought she was doing well, but blood poison set in and on Sept. 24 she quietly passed away, leaving
a husband, five children, a heart-broken father and mother, and one brother; also a host of relatives and friends
to mourn her departure, but not as those without hope. She was laid away to rest amid a profusion of flowers, Sept.
26, in the beautiful Lakewood cemetery, Minneapolis. Thus ends the life of a noble woman."

Mrs.
T. S. Draper
"Mrs. T. S. Draper, a resident of St. Clair for the last 25 years, died at the residence of Capt. John Hill
on Sunday afternoon. She had been in poor health for about a year, the result of an attack of la grippe, but for
the last two weeks it has been felt that she could not recover. It is a singular circumstance that so far as is
known she has not a single living relative. The facts which we have been able to learn with regard to her history
are as follows. She was married to Corydon Draper, Dec. 13, 1842. She had three children, one daughter and two
sons. The former will be remembered as Mrs. Louise Rotsey who died in St. Clair, Oct. 12, 1880. Her sons are supposed
to have been killed in the west by Indians. Mrs. Draper was a faithful member of the Congregational church, and
when she became helpless by reason of illness there were Christian friends who showed themselves as devoted in
their care and attention as if they had been her own relatives and therefore during her last days every want was
supplied, and the same sympathy was extended to the preparations for her funeral services which took place at the
Congregational church on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Draper was a woman of kindly disposition and always ready to assist
others and to work in every good cause even beyond her limited means."
