WOUNDED 41 YEARS AGO

Dies on the Fourth of July in Gaylord at the age of 67 Years

Charles Gocha, an old resident of Gaylord and a veteran of the civil war, is dead at the age of 67 years.

On the morning of July 4, 1863, he was serving his country in the Twenty-fourth Michigan Volunteer Infantry, and was one of the many thousands who were engaged in the great battle that took place on the field of Gettysburg and there he was seriously wounded. He has been, for the past several, suffering from paralysis superinduced by those wounds which wholly incapacitated him from labor. It is said that recently a pension somewhat more adequate had been granted to him. It is a coincidence that on the morning of the forty-first anniversary of the day he was wounded he passed away.

He was a member of the G. A. R. and was buried under miltary ceremonies of that order Wednesday afternoon. His widow and two sons survive.
