Obituary

Robert Galloway was born in Shiawassee County, November 12, 1870. He died at his home in Vanderbilt, Wednesday, March 24, 1937, at 9:15 a.m. Death was due to a heart attack and general breakdown of health two years ago. Since that time he has gradually failed. Mr. Galloway was one of a family of ten brothers and sisters.

He came to this county 58 years ago when a boy of 8 years and settled with his parents, Tom and Martha Galloway, on the homestead farm two miles south of Vanderbilt.

On April 24, 1894 he was united in marriage to Miss. Effie B. Winters of Vanderbilt, and have lived most of the time since in and near Vanderbilt, with the exception of a few months when they resided at Wolverine.

In his earlier days he followed the lumber business, in various parts of the county, and in many of the adjoining counties. Later on he took up the business of road construction and has followed that successfully until his health failed. Even since that time he has been deeply interested in the building of better roads for the county.

Besides his widow he leaves to mourn his passing his adopted daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Hyzer of Detroit; three sisters, Mrs. Ellen Brown of California, Mrs. Jennie Rush of Eaton Rapids, Mrs. Martha Bailey of Fairhaven, N.Y., one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Darling preceding him in death many years; five brothers, John of Clare, Alfred of Grayling, Will of Fairhaven, N.Y., Tom of Midland, one brother, Albert, preceding him in death four years ago.

Always of a kind and genial and joking disposition, he will be missed by many friends and neighbors, for whom he always had a pleasant smile and kindly word.

Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the Methodist church, Rev. Lovejoy officiating. Interment in the Vanderbilt Cemetery.

Out of town relatives to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. George Hyzer of Detroit, John Galloway of Clare, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Galloway and family of Midland, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Galloway and family of Grayling, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Winters of Lansing, Mr. and Mrs. George Menzies of Gaylord, Mrs. Margaret Menzies and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Menzies of Gaylord.
