CHARLES FLER DIES FOLLOWING LONG ILLNESS. Charles Henry Fler was born on October 21, 1880 in Hayes Township, son of Henry and Ida Bell Fler. He spent his boyhood in local lumber camps. He met and married Elizabeth Graham on May 5, 1908, and three children were born to them, one of whom died in infancy. To most of his friends and neighbors, he was simply known as "Charlie", not as Mr. Fler. especially to the younger generation, who loved to listen to his tales of the woods. Charlie spent his entire life in Gaylord and there are very few for whom he had not performed some service at one time or another. He passed away on Friday, November 21, at the age of 78, after a lingering illness. Surviving are his widow, one son, Roy, of Detroit; one daughter, Mrs. Helen Robinson of Saginaw; three sisters, three brothers, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Services were held at Walker Funeral Home at 2 p.m.on Monday, November 24, with Rev. Guenther Branstner of the Methodist Church officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery. Serving as pall bearers at the service were Herbert Hutchins, Athur Savage, Averill Soper, Svend Madson, William Bankov, and Alfred Coon.
